    Green sight glass

Oh okay. Thank you for explaining. But how can you be sure it isn’t mustard algae? I will go ahead and SLAM today. I appreciate so much your help and guidance. ?

    Green sight glass

Thank you Donaldson for your reply. I previously shocked to shock level and not mustard algae level. I plan on using the mustard algae formula today.

    Green sight glass

Thank you. I was able to remove it and clean it out. I backwashed and shocked the pool then 2 weeks later the sight glass is green again. Doing some research here.

Thank you Jason! I was afraid to try that. ☺️

    Green sight glass

I just noticed today that my sight glass is green. I back washed for several minutes and observed clear water moving in the glass. It appears that the green “stuff” is on the inside glass not in the water. Is there a way to remove the glass for cleaning?

    New liner when winterizing

We have to replace our liner just when we should be closing our pool. My question is: After it's filled do we get the water in balance just as if we were opening it? Or can we get by with bringing the pool to shock level before closing? We use the BBB method. Thanks in advance for any help.

Water supply line to above ground pool

We received the new filter and pump. Now we would like to run a water supply line from the outdoor faucet to the pool using PVC. Can anyone give me some direction on how to do this? Thank you in advance for your help.

    Filter sizes

Thanks mas985 and Bama Rambler for your responses. We've ordered the Hayward S244T Filter and 15922S pump. Your ideas and suggestions helped tremendously. Can't wait to try them out!

Thank you mas985 for the information on the Hayward pump. I think that's the way we'll go. Your help has been invaluable.

    Filter sizes

Mas985 thanks again for the reply. I have read several posts that say to go with the biggest filter you can. And the Hayward S244T was suggested for my pool, that's basically the reason for choosing it. But after reading your last post, I'm confused again about pump size. Since Linen...

    Filter sizes

Linen and mas985 thanks again for your input. At this point we are seriously considering the Hayward S244T filter and also purchasing a lower HP 2 speed pump. It just seems like the better solution to buy them together at the same time. Can you suggest which model pump we should consider?

Thanks Linen. I never dreamed that purchasing a new filter would be so involved. I'm glad we checked here first and didn't order the first thing we saw.

    Filter sizes

Me again. Please ignore my previous post. I misunderstood what my husband said about the fittings. The Doughboy pump we have has a SF of 1.0 and it's a 1 1/2 hp. Will that pump work with the Hayward S244T? I'm learning so much on this site. Thank you for being here for everyone.

    Filter sizes

Thank you everyone for responding and helping with this decision. I had decided to go with the Hayward S244T filter, then I realized after examining my pump again that it takes 1" fittings and the filter uses 1 1/2". Is there any proper way to make these compatible? Or should we bite the...

    Filter sizes

Thanks again everyone for the responses. The reason for replacing the filter is that the Doughboy was old and starting to leak. I'm still a little confused but beginning to understand a little of the reasoning for the smaller pump and larger filter. I thought I read that the Hayward S244T was...

    Filter sizes

Thanks JohnT and Linen for your responses. Our pump is aDoughboy Power Pak II. It's only 3-4 years old so I'd hate to replace it unless I have to. Our old filter was a Doughboy Silica II holding 120lbs of sand. Our pool looked great last year using the BBB method. If we stay with this pump will...

    Filter sizes

We are replacing our Doughhboy filter this year. We are considering the Hayward S210T or the S220T. The S210T uses 50 lbs less sand. Would one filter be better than the other? We will be using a 1 1/2 hp pump. Thanks for any suggestions and advice.

    Does this seem right?

OK, I checked the FC level twice last night a couple of hours after adding bleach - #1 - 21 #2 - 18 I did them exactly the same This morning early, I checked FC again - #1 - 17 #2 - 18 Again I did them exactly the same way. I'm hoping the relatively small drop overnight is consistent over...

    Does this seem right?

Thanks Dave and JasonLion for your responses. The water is clear and has been all along. I feel like I have been doing the test consistently, but will try adding extra powder and doing two tests in a row. I'll post results tomorrow, I hope you will check back.

    Does this seem right?

I still can't seem to get a handle on stabilizing my FC levels. My routine is - dusk - check FC & add chlorine to bring to shock level; recheck FC 1 hour later dawn - check FC (I usually don't add chlorine during the day because it is still high, but has also dropped several ppm...

Thanks Bama Rambler and Red Shirt Ensign. Now I feel like I have a clear plan on what to do. I will stock up on bleach today at Wal-Mart and continue the battle.

I don't know what SpeedStir is, but I'll look it up. Any suggestions on my FC levels? Keep shocking at night with bleach until it holds, or could something else be going on?

    Confused about levels

Sorry, I guess I got ahead of myself, duraleigh. Last night at 8:00 pm FC was 25. The rest of my results are in earlier posts on this thread. Thanks for the comments regarding the FC test and pool stores. I'm glad I'm not alone.

    Confused about levels

Good morning. Got up early to check the FC in the dark. 5:00 am - FC 19.5 Pretty big loss overnight. When doing the test, I sometimes put 2-3 drops at a time before swirling of the R-0871 for up to about 12 drops, then swirl after each drop (and only when I have just added enough chlorine to...

    Confused about levels

Still need help As I posted last night in this forum, I'm confused about what to do next. Over night by FC dropped by only 1.5 ppm - from 16.5 to 15. By 6 pm tonight it was 6.5. So I added chlorine as suggested by the Pool Calculator, (but added a little more, as suggested in previous posts)...

    Confused about levels

Here are my latest levels - 10:00 pm last night FC 16.5 6:00 am - FC - 15 CC - 0 T/A - 140 pH - 7.8 I lost 1.5 ppm during the night. Should I keep adding chlorine to shock level until I get a drop of 1ppm or less? If so, should I check the FC level several times a day to keep it at that...

    Confused about levels

Thanks everyone for your help. I just added chlorine to bring the pool up to shock level and will test again in about 30 min, and then again early in the morning. I'll post those results. We are getting some bubbles in the return (just saw them tonight with a flashlight), could problems with...
