    Pollen, dirt, or algae?

I've backwashed it three times in the past month just to be sure. However, I have not changed the sand out since it was installed in 2017. I started SLAMing my pool yesterday and the algea color is already gone, now it's just cloudy. I'm guessing I had yellow algea.

    Pollen, dirt, or algae?

FC: 4.5 CC: 0 PA: 7.6 TA: 90 CYA: 55 FC was 5 last night and I ran the pump overnight w/ the SWCG off. Our water is a bit murky and we have a fine yellowish powder in the water. It's been like this for a week or so. Do you guys think it's pollen or should I SLAM? SLAMing didn't make sense as my...

Pool is DIRTY! Needs first cleaning!

I'm loving the hairnet trick. I'm catching a lot of fine gunk. Another tip, run your pump as fast as you can. I notice small bugs swirling around my simmer when I run the pump at half speed. Once I crank it up all that stuff just gets sucked down.

Water Clarifier to get rid of fine dirt?

I'm on day 6 of my SLAM and my pool is looking clearer than the day we had it filled. I'm simply amazed  I've been using the hairnet trick on my skimmer and vaccum. I put three hairnets on each and that seems to be doing a great job at getting the really fine dirt out and reducing the...

Heat Pump recommendations - Gulf Stream

Ahh FC at 10 is plenty high, just make sure you mix that puppy up a few times a day with a brush. so you don't get any localized algae. I'm on the tail end of a SLAM because i didn't have CYA high enough and I read during my searching that algae can pop up in localized spots (deep end...

Heat Pump recommendations - Gulf Stream

Yea I have a rectangular pool, see my signature for pix. We don't use a hand railing in the shallow end, no need for it for us. I also have a swimout in the deep end that helps move hot water to that end of the pool well. the 3HP Variable Flow pump is great at moving a ton of water ;) You...

I suppose there's no harm in brining my FC up just to be sure, thanks for the tip. I'll know for sure once I try the hairnet life hack :goodjob:

Heat Pump recommendations - Gulf Stream

When I wrote that message I asked my wife and we discussed this very issue. It's hard to say how much this appliance is costing us as we had to run our air condition a ton last year and only 1-2 weeks so far this summer. I feel like it's may be a few dollars a day and it heats up the 25,000...

Pool is DIRTY! Needs first cleaning!

I can't pass an OCLT as I'm actually going through a SLAM right now: https://www.troublefreepool.com/threads/149810-Water-Clarifier-to-get-rid-of-fine-dirt. I don't think it's dead algae as it's been happening weeks before I had the algae outbreak.

Pool is DIRTY! Needs first cleaning!

Thanks for the hair net tip :lovetfp:, I can't wait to try these out when they arrive on Sunday! I've had super fine brown dust/pollen in my pool for the last couple of weeks and it seems to just go right through my sand filter.

Cloudy pool - I can't get it back to crystal clear.....

He's spot on! You need more Liquid chlorine or bleach in. Use the pool math calculator to figure out how much, https://www.troublefreepool.com/calc.html. My pool place sells 12.5% bleach in 128oz (1 gal) containers for $2.55 (cheaper than my local grocery store). Put your pool info in your...

Best way to top off without paying for water hauling truck?

No clue if the extra .5 microns of filtering will make a bit of difference, but whatever;) I got this for $17.48 shipped (Michigan tax) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0030ZD7MU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 **Update** Sorry, I made this post on my phone and gave you the...

Best way to top off without paying for water hauling truck?

You are the man! I ordered a .5 micron filter and the cartridge thing to hold it and placed an order on Home Depot for the adapter. I just have to pick up the faucet adapter and a new length of hose. I'll have my water tested after I putt it through this setup and before I fill my pool. Thanks...

Not a horrible idea. I got like .01" of water in July so even that wouldn't have helped me :/

Best way to top off without paying for water hauling truck?

I just got my pool (salt water) this summer and had to refill once at a cost of $350 for ~4-6,000 gallons. This sucks, especially since I got like zero rain all of July. I use a cover, but it doesn't stop water from splashing out when we use it, loss from backwash, and some evaporation loss. I...

Water Clarifier to get rid of fine dirt?

Yea a lot of helpful advice here for sure, I'm so thankful. I've been checking the FC and scrubbing the pool often, hopefully the green will start to fade. It'll be 24 hours since I brought the FC up at 1PM EST. What's the typical turn around? I'm going to post to see if anyone has any advice...

Heat Pump recommendations - Gulf Stream

Great choice! I have the Gulfstream HE 150 RA and I absolutely love it. The electric bill has been really great, probably better than what natural gas would've been. We keep our water 87-89. I love that it shows a super accurate temp on the read out too. I tossed my sh**ty thermometer we kept...

SLAMing an outdoor pool is most effective when CYA is around 30 to 40. :lovetfp:

Water Clarifier to get rid of fine dirt?

Depends I suppose, what should my CYA be at during and then after SLAM? Just adding the 4lbs I have will bring a CYA of 10 up to 30.

Water Clarifier to get rid of fine dirt?

Thanks for the link, I have it bookmarked ;) I brought my PH down to 7.2 as suggested and started the SLAM with two 128oz 12.5% bleach bottles. Here's some pix I just took: Algae - Album on Imgur How soon after adding the bleach should I test my FC? I just tested my FC and it's at 13 currently.

Water Clarifier to get rid of fine dirt?

I have a test kit, see my signature ;). What do I start with when SLAMing? I'm confused, do I add two gallons of liquid bleach to bring my FC levels up? These are probably very dumb/novice questions so thanks for holding my hand a bit with this :D Note, my PH is still at 8.2
