Iridescent glass tile on raised wall--blinding glare??

The NPT line Oceanscapes is made by Oceanside tile. Their iridescent tiles do not produce much of glare or the oil spill effect you get with NPT Lightwaves tiles. It is very well-behaved tiled.

You are not alone. We had to redo stuff too. I think it is a 1/4 inch angle. It should not be noticeable. Are they going to redo all the tile? Or just the tile on the sections they expose to redo the bond beam? ... You should wait before filling the pool. Mesh-backed tile is more...

They are expensive (especially the square ones), but they are supposed to be more durable because of the glass fiber. The price also includes a range of speciality finishes. In real Orange County here and our permits fees weren't nearly that high. Where they got us was the fence and pool...

    Corona, CA Pool Build

In a small yard, along the side of the pool, they are impractical. But that should not have been the overriding concern here. As you said, they draw interest, day or night. .. Where are you getting the pots for the pilasters? We got ours at Architectural Pottery (Huntington Beach). Wonder...

    New Pool Build Los Angeles

The coping looks good. What's the name of the Tile? It looks like Lightwaves. But it's a color which I've not seen here (So Cal). It is a beautiful tile. We couldn't use it (Lightwaves) because NPT did not have the adequate quantity. You may want to seal the tile near the spa spillover...

    Lap Pool Renovation with Aquabright

Here's a description of the pool: In-ground, rectangular, L-shape, 30 by 14, with a 7 by 7 spa (270 degree perimeter overflow, raised 18 inches), slightly inset (about 2 feet) into the pool to form the L-shape. The pool has two bond beam walls --- on the right side, 18 inch by 14 feet, and...

    New Katy Texas Build (Houston)

Have the builder stipulate the width and depth of the trough. The spa in your pictures above has a trough that is completely hidden. Most infinity (perimeter overflow) spas that are raised have a visible trough. Some other things you should know. I assume you are going to cover the spa in...

    New Katy Texas Build (Houston)

Infinity spas are beautiful, but they pose a problem. How do you get in and out of them? My spouse has compared the problem to getting into and out of a BMW X5 with running boards. (The running boards are not designed to be stepped on.) Such is the case with the trough on an infinity spa...

    Lap Pool Renovation with Aquabright

I am quite shy and not good at keeping things up to date. So far we've had a rather uneventful build. (/Fingers crossed) Initially, we chose another glass tile, but at the last minute NPT did not have the quantity we required. As you well know, the Oceanside glass was a costly alternative...

Here are their installation instructions: http://www.glasstile.com/pdf/installation-guide/Pool%20&%20Water%20Feature%20Installation.pdf They are fussy about these things. You will note that they approve of Laticrete for mortar, adhesive, and even secondary waterproofing, but not for primary...

Criterion for evaluating a good pool builder

If you want a baseline approach, work with a landscape architect first. Then take their plans out to bid. If you approach PB's yourself, you'll find that PB's prefer to sell what they do best. If that means a spa with a certain spillover design, that's most likely what they will offer and do...

    Coping Problems by PB :(

Did the polishing fix the uneven profile? Did he polish all of the coping? Also did pour-in-place concrete coping. No hairline cracks after almost a month. All of the coping should have an even profile and the finish and color should be consistent. You can have individual pieces replaced...

I think they have to be ordered from the manufacturer that way --- cut to the curve. But hey it doesn't hurt to ask the PB if they can be cut on site.

    New Build Wylie, TX

I would be concerned at this point of damaging the unit if they had to chisel it out to adjust it. Go over that possibility with the PB. (These things can be cut to fit a curve. Your PB should have also given you that option.)

The faceplate comes in different colors --- grey, tan, and white. (You should have been given a choice. Ask if the faceplate can be changed out.) Typically, the unit is installed flush with the coping above it. That also helps to disguise it. There may be reasons why this one is not so flush.

6 Questions for New So Cal Pool Build: 1. SWCG vs Ozonator 2. # of spa Jets?, etc

    (1) $1,500 (2) That's a tricky question. Our PB recommended two pumps based on the number of jets (10) and the distance of the spa from the pump. (There is one other hydraulic solution, but not sure it will work for more than 10 jets. Also keep in mind that if you are not getting a separate...

*Build Thread* - California Bay Area new pool construction

Re: California Bay Area new pool construction - Equipment questions The AquaConnect is what gives you the smartphone control. Other than that, it comes down to the number of relays and built-in connections? How many components (e.g., VS Pump) will be connected to the panel? Does the panel...

    Pool Lighting ?

The lights come in three sizes, more or less - nicheless lights (e.g., Hayward 160/320), spa lights, and pool lights. You can use any combination of the above in your pool. If you use only nicheless lights, you will need more and for the sake of placement you should ascertain from the...

    Rebar too far apart??

If you are digging, the engineering plans were approved by the city. The plans should show how the pool will be constructed out of steel. Go to your permit box. There should be a set of engineering plans there. If you have any doubts after that, ask the inspector when he comes to check the...

    New Pool Build Los Angeles

Even with the wall up, you should have the room to move things in and out if there is a technical problem. Above all, don't put the equipment in harm's way. They have to dig footings with shovels that hit things.
