    Urgent Pool Closing Advice Needed

The leak is within the underwater pool light conduit. Unfortunately there is no way to plug it. A contractor was out the week of 11/7 and "foamed" the enclosure, but it obviously didn't seal the leak. I just reached out to my landscaping contractor to coordinate the path forward. We are in the...

    Urgent Pool Closing Advice Needed

I’m with you, but I’m up against the incoming winter. The likelihood of them getting here next week (holiday) is slim and I’m at risk of temps dropping below levels that I can’t keep the pump running.

    Urgent Pool Closing Advice Needed

That is the way I’m leaning. Thanks for that input. To your question, I’m losing 200-300 gallons a day, which equates to about 3/4” a day. I need to add water to it ever 2-3 days before it drops below skimmer. Of course, to add to it, my hoses are frozen until about 12p each day… haha.

    Urgent Pool Closing Advice Needed

Hello my TFP experts, I'm in Maryland (Mid Atlantic), its less than a week before Thanksgiving, and my pool is still open. "Why?" you ask "would you still have your pool open?" That's a great question! It's not because of lack of desire or laziness, I assure you. I normally start the closing...

    Springtails... Again!

Holy Crud! So glad to find someone else to validate the alien horde of tiny black jumping bugs!!! I’ve never seen them before. We had a storm earlier this evening. I went out to do some post storm cleanup and my skimmer was full of them! There must of been over 100k of them. I cleaned out the...

    Rapid pH increase with SWCG

Yeah I may. The problem is if I add calcium now it will be high by mid late season and I’ll be back to getting new fill water every year. At $1200 not ideal. If I could at least 2 years that would help by keeping my CH down

    Rapid pH increase with SWCG

Sorry I lied... Does anyone have a recommendation on a digital pH tester. There are so many on the market its hard to tell the wheat from the chaff

    Rapid pH increase with SWCG

OK, I think this is my last question on this topic. I appreciate everyone's help on this nightmare of mine. One way or another, I'm screwed, but now it's just about reducing the "screwtiny" level for as long as I can. So my question is... Is it safe/desired to keep my pH this high (basic) and...

    Rapid pH increase with SWCG

Sounds good. So hold on adding CaCl though? Just seems unwise to add it as I'm trending +10 CH every 2-3 days. In order to hit near 0.0 CSI at current CH I'm going to need to bring/hold the TA at 120, holding a pH of 8.0.

    Rapid pH increase with SWCG

That is correct. But because I’m not in a position to replaster again after just 3 years, I need to try and maintain this disaster. fill water was fairly balanced… but watch my logs. CH and TA just rise with no additions. (I did add some baking soda to bring it up slightly as my pH was...

    Rapid pH increase with SWCG

OK. Well I hate to resurrect this old thread from last year, but the pool is finally open and the saga continues... My plaster is failing after only 3 years and killing my chemical balance. I got a late start to this season as we were supposed to have some landscaping and concrete work done...

    Rapid pH increase with SWCG

Ok. Finally closing this headache of a pool. I pulled the salt cell and there is no visible scale or buildup. I would have thought this think would’ve been caked with the issues I’ve been having with CH. Anyway, the cells are nearly brand new looking. Do I hold on the acid soak? Seems...

    Rapid pH increase with SWCG

So evaporation/adding well water is not typically an issue for me. We are pretty humid most of the summer and/or we get enough rain to keep within 1" of mean water line target. I've only added water from the well 2 times this season and each time, I estimate < 500 gals. The last time water was...

    Rapid pH increase with SWCG

At this point, yes, I believe we've ruled everything else out. No CaCl has been added since July 29. On the 30th I measured CH at 450. I didn't measure much from that point because typically I only measure CH monthly. Rapid pH rise has plagued this season so before I left for vacation on Sept 11...

    Rapid pH increase with SWCG

It is quite widespread. On all the steps and horizontal surfaces. There is also a substantial surface change at/around the returns. I assume this is from chemical dosing, although I'm pretty careful with dosing, especially MA and CaCl. I had mentioned in one post my ignorant mistake of using...

    Rapid pH increase with SWCG

More power to you @Bperry. Four years ago I thought the same thing, looked it up online but realized I don't have the time, patience, and most importantly the expertise. Also thought about getting it fiberglassed.

    Rapid pH increase with SWCG

Unfortunately, I have to have water brought in. Our well water is contaminated with road deicer (Sodium Chloride) and quite acidic (4<>5). Fortunately, I've had to drain this bugger many times in the 8 years I've been here so I've gotten down and can time it to almost the moment the truck...

    Rapid pH increase with SWCG

I did plan on draining up opening next year, due to hardness levels. I knew that the only way to get rid of salt (or hardness) is to drain/fill. I had read "somewhere" that "salt" pools tend to realize shortened plaster life (abrasive). Not stating it caused my problem, obviously signs of...

    Rapid pH increase with SWCG

Yeah @Bperry, If it aint broke don't fix it. One thing is for sure. Whenever I do replaster this thing again, I will be taking copious notes and documentation of every step so that if it does fail prematurely, I have a leg to stand on with a workmanship or materials claim. @JamesW (or anyone...

    Rapid pH increase with SWCG

But in all seriousness, this issue did seem to come up this season with the addition of SWCG. I'm not saying it is the cause of the plaster dissolving, but adding salt to an already weak plaster probably didn't help. Of course I didn't know this until adding the SWCG. Adding borates was also a...

LOL. well that should save some money on another replaster job

    Rapid pH increase with SWCG

You betcha! Unbelievable how bad my plaster is failing. My water feels like sticky slime and I can't keep the water balanced to save my life. It was 3 years since replaster in August. There is no way (I guess there is some way) this should be failing so bad at this point. I'm about to close...
