Dye test shows leak on both suction and outflow?

I did a bucket test. Over the course of 24 hrs the bucket lost about 1/8" while the pool lost about 1/2", so there was a significant difference (and the 1/8" number seems about right, since normally I'd lose about 1 1/2 inches in a week this time of year)

Dye test shows leak on both suction and outflow?

Hi all, I have a small 14x12 gunite pool (about 5000 gal) which for the past several months has been losing more water than normal (we're in south Florida, so there's always a fair amount of evaporation). A neighbor's pool guy suggested we might have a slow leak, and recommended I turn the pump...

Saline pool eating away at chicago brick

Hm, I have a pool guy at the moment, so I don't know those particulars. I'll try to intercept him when he next comes around. About the only thing I know is that the salt cell is reading 2800ppm, which is about normal. However, this is an issue that has been going on for years - what in...

Saline pool eating away at chicago brick

Hi All, I have a small inground saline pool in South Florida that is surrounded by a Chicago brick patio. Where the bricks come right up to the edge of the pool (there's no other material - travertine, concrete, etc.). both the brick and the mortar are disintegrating. Consequently, I get lots...

Thoughts on a solar (other other) heater setup in South Florida

Thanks for the follow-up, it has been extremely helpful. I already knew this wasn't going to be a strictly DIY project, as our insurance company made it clear that any rooftop installation will impact our already ridiculous windstorm mitigation premium. Right now I'm just trying to decide on my...

Thoughts on a solar (other other) heater setup in South Florida

Thanks for the thoughts. Since I have roughly 170-180 sq.ft of surface area, and most of the rooftop solar membranes I've seen are generally 80 sq.ft., it seems like I would have to run either three or four of those units in parallel. Is there significant backpressure from having so many...

Thoughts on a solar (other other) heater setup in South Florida

Hi all, I have a small (12x14, about 5200 gal) in-ground, gunite pool that's on the north side of the house, where it gets very little sunlight during the winter months. As I live in is South Florida, it basically means that the pool is a comfortable temperature (between high 70s and low 90s in...
