Okay, I passed the overnight test and the CC is zero so I think my SLAM is complete. I am a little concerned over the possibility of algae hiding in the lights, skimmer, and other crevices after Aimee seemed to have that problem. I've brushed those areas as best I can from outside the pool but...

QUESTION: Since my pool is clear now, I was planning on doing the overnight test tonight but my FC is down to 21 tonight (24 is shock target). Should I go ahead and do the test without adding the chlorine or add chlorine, wait an hour then get the FC level for my overnight test?

If I find anything hiding in the nooks and crannies should I continue the shock until they are gone, even if water is clear and I pass the other 2 tests?

The water is CLEAR!!! Time to do the OCLT and check the CC level. Does it matter if I do the CC check before or after the overnight test?

Thanks for the encouragement, harley. Didn't need to add anything at 10am. Tested at 1pm and had FC level of 20, added 104 oz bleach. Tested again at 3pm and the FC was 24 (my target). Tested again at 5:30 and it was back down to 20 so I added another 104 oz. I'll check one or two more...

Good Morning! I was excited to see the pool is looking very blue today. I tried to post pics but kept getting a message that they were too big. I sized them way down and still not attaching. I also tried photo bucket but not sure I know how to do it right, those were rejected as well...

And another question :scratch:... Should I turn the sun shelf bubblers on? It doesn't get a lot of circulation up there with just 2 inlets, and the pool cleaner doesn't cover that area. I appreciate all the help and hand holding during my first SLAM. :-) BTW, the pool is looking better...

Is it a good idea to vacuum the pool during a SLAM? Will that help is clean up quicker?

atttech-2, you are probably right on the estimated gallons of the pool. It actually came out to 19,900 and I rounded to 20,000 but I'm not sure how to account for the bench area between the spillways and the steps/benches from the shelf into the pool area. So I didn't have much change this...

Thanks JEC for mentioning the chlorine feeder. I thought I was gonna love that thing. In theory it's great but from what I've learned so far it's best used sparingly, like while on vacation. The feeder is empty and off so I will start manually adding bleach. It seems like it's a pretty easy...

I just checked the FC and it's at 30. Hope that's not a problem since I was shooting for 24. I added a little less than 5 gallons as the jugs are 121 oz and not 128. I brushed the pool after testing and now I guess I wait until morning to test again.

Thanks Aimee. Just put the 5 gals of bleach in and will let it circulate for 30-60 mins before checking the FC level. I did get the pH down to 7.4 before starting the SLAM. This is my first ever SLAM and I'm anxious to see how it goes. I think I need to run and get more bleach before I run out.

The water table is extremely low and our IG gunnite pool was actually built mostly above ground due to the terrain and it's on rock. I'm not sure about the hydrostatic valve but I doubt we have one if its typical in a high water table locations. Right now we have 3 hoses siphoning the water but...

I think we'll just go ahead and do the drain now and not worry about later. We need to get the water good again. What is the best way to drain 60% of a pool? Is there any issue with removing that much water that I should know? Thanks
