New pool with test results- where do I begin?

Thanks. I'm using the Taylor k-2006 test kit. Yes, the CYA would probably be 0. I've been reading through the pool school information. I was just unsure as to what I should focus on first. Thanks for clarifying it all! ...I guess I'm worried I'll screw it up. :) I successfully used this method...

New pool with test results- where do I begin?

We've had our pool a couple of weeks and have shocked it and are adding bleach. I'm not sure what I should be concerned about and working on first. The water is clear. FC - 1 pH - 8.2 TA - 250 CH - 170 CYA - Off the chart. I was able to see the black dot after emptying the whole container in.

    When is TA too high?

That was my first thought but I wanted to clarify. :) I've never tested the house water. I'm in a small town in Ohio near amish country. I was figuring I'd go with the middle ground on recommended level and aim for 40.

    When is TA too high?

Sorry don't know how I forgot to add the CYA it's 25. We are using the TF100 kit. We haven't done anything with the pH since we opened the pool. You lost me on the TA of the fill water. Not sure what you mean.

    When is TA too high?

Well, I finally got the pool shocked enough that the CC is at 0. Now does it matter what order I add these things in (borax, stabilizer) also what do I do about the TA being so high? FC 6 CC 0 TC 6 pH 7.2 T/A 170 CH 180 Also I'm curious how much bleach most of you need to add on a regular...

Re: added the 2 jugs of bleach and saw little change The calculator is telling me to add 224 oz of bleach to get to the FC to 10. Should I just add that, or since it's likely to get used up quickly again add more? If so, how much should I add? Even though the jugs are only 5-6% chlorine it...

Is there a reason besides cost to stick with just bleach? I ask because it's going to be a lot of fun lugging those jugs around and the 24 pound baby. :P

added the 2 jugs of bleach and saw little change Well after getting yesterday's numbers of: pH 7.2 FC .5 CC 1.5 TC 2 TA 140 CH 160 CYA 20 I added the 2 jugs of bleach I had in hopes of getting my shock near 10 and was quite disappointed this morning when I tested the water. My new numbers...

added the 2 jugs of bleach and saw little change Well after getting yesterday's readings of: pH 7.2 FC .5 CC 1.5 TC 2 TA 140 CH 160 CYA 20 I added 2 jugs of bleach in an attempt to get my shock level near 10. I tested it this morning and instead I got: FC 1 CC 2.5 TC 3.5 I thought it...

Well I added the 2 jugs of bleach I had last night. Just tested the water once I got the baby down for a nap and was disappointed to see that our new numbers are: FC 1 CC 2.5 It doesn't seem to have made hardly any difference. I'm thinking maybe when I go to walmart today I need to buy a box...

I've been trying to use the pool calculator and using the recommended levels from the site but maybe I'm not understanding it. What do you mean by "your shock level is 10"?

Re: New and clueless, please help! Well I hope to not need to buy the pucks anymore as they were quite costly. It seemed like we were at the pool store every other week buying $30-50 worth of stuff each time and that was only if we didn't need more of the pucks. I believe they would be trichlor...

Re: New and clueless, please help! Pool pod is the time released chlorine puck you put in the skimmer. I should have added that we did have a problem with copper when we used the heater before. Of course we also use to us algaecide.

I've been reading over the site for about a week now and have decided to attempt the BBB method. I've used bioguard for the past few years and it just seems crazy to spend all that money. I've ordered the TF-100 kit and expect it to arrive in the next couple of days. We opened the pool over the...
