    Phosphate?

We have had our pool at SLAM levels for four days and it’s not clearing up. Someone said we might have phosphates in there and that could be the reason... thoughts on next steps? On phosphates?

    about to give up!

Regarding the filter, we cleaned it and it was a complete mess - only two weeks the pool had been open. So now it's sparkling clean but there is boat loads of live algae still in the pool. Marty had said keep filter off until it gets murky blue and we aren't there yet. This morning, day 5 of...

pool math problem? Pool math said 7 bottles 121 oz bleach to get us to SLAM (16 FC) and 10 min after putting the bleach in we were at 4. What is wrong? pump on recirculate.

but I think the filter is dirty and per mike1162 he said to clean it? when vacuuming to waste, will my filter waste water go through the backwash hose or is there another hose that needs connnecting? There is no other opening.

    about to give up!

Ok, so I think from pasting it all together our plan will be: 1) add DE (already done, will be wasted per plan below) 2) vac to waste 3) top off water 4) filter on recirculate 5) shock tonight per pool math 6) vac to waste again tomorrow or sunday (how will we know it's time?) 7)clean filter...

Last time it was cleaned (I think) was when it was opened two weeks ago. Clean pressure is 10 and dirty is 30-40 - the dial says clean and dirty.

    about to give up!

OK so please advise on the filter. We just backwashed, should we add DE (not 100% sure how much we should add each time), and then put on recirculate until pool clear? I'm confused. No one has ever mentioned recirculate. Do tell!

we lose water every time we backwash too, though.... need to get this thing DONE! Could we SLAM now, it's 6pm? and risk overnight? Or should we do in morning?

    about to give up!

so we turn it to waste and turn pump on, we can vacuum and it'll come out the black outlet? that is what we need to do....can attach our backwash hose onto it. or wait, wont' it just go out of the backwash hose ?

how do I know I have a multiport valve? is the pool ready to SLAM or do I have too much organic matter in it? - - - Updated - - - i totally get it, but never before did it eat up so much chlorine. We couldn't leave it overnight last SLAM attempt, so maybe wake up every few hours and test...

    about to give up!

It's been a few weeks now....third attempt at a SLAM and pool won't hold a shock (pool math showed 7 bottles of bleach at the time) so we can (S)LAM. We put in bleach about 9p, and in the morning it had FC of 1.0. We are terribly frustrated and are seriously thinking of closing the pool and just...

    Dichlor and Chlorine

Hello all - we have run into a snag with our process. We have been removing all of the debris with the new rake, have our CYA and other numbers at the proper levels, and are ready to SLAM. We are having someone stay at our house for three days starting Friday morning and can't ask that person to...

    Dichlor and Chlorine

We are thinking, unless you all have a scientific reason we aren't aware of, that it's the leaves/debris still at the bottom. We are working really hard on it - leaf eater thing, scooping with net, and we have a new DE filter. We even have a new polaris that isn't ready yet since it gets clogged...

    Dichlor and Chlorine

We added CYA with the sock method - it was a zero after we opened the pool. Our CCs are 3.5 and FC .5

    Dichlor and Chlorine

We are puzzled - here are our numbers: CYA 50 calcium hardness 105 TA 110 pH 7.2 Chlorine - ZERO still little debris/silt/leaves at bottom, but not bad so we added 6 gallons bleach 3 hours later, chlorine was at 1. It's now 7 hours later and chlorine is at .5 what is eating our chlorine?

    Dichlor and Chlorine

Okay - we received our test kit (finally!) and are ready to go. Here are the details...I'll certainly look at the pool math page though any advice on how best to go through the steps to be most efficient (i.e. how to quickly get the CYA up) is much appreciated. Chlorine = .5 CYA = <20 (filled up...

    Dichlor and Chlorine

We have a chlorine/ph test kit and strips...so used that to get an idea of where things stood until the full kit comes. We used the pool store to fill in some holes. The question is, is ther anything we can do to be proactive (I.e. put the stabilizer granules in socks by the skimmers...) or...

    Dichlor and Chlorine

we have a TF100 from last year that for the life of us we cannot find! disaster, we know, but we need to get things rolling here until we get it Wednesday (will overnight it) We just added 4 gallons bleach and have 12 lbs bioguard stabilizer 100 - we added about half of it in socks near the...

    Dichlor and Chlorine

Hello all! First, let me preface this with 'we have misplaced our testing kit', we know we need it and will replace as quickly as we can, ... though, we did open it and would like to at least move in the right direction before we can get a new one. So, we had the guy who opened our pool put...

    New Jandy DEV60 filter

Thanks so much. Our Chlorine is at shock level - was not this morning. We added 4 gal bleach per Pool Math calculations. Here were our #s this morning: CYA 40 FC 8 (should be at 16 now) Calcium harness 250 TA 70 pH 7.2 We were going to increase our TA per Pool Math with 15lbs baking soda...
