    Above ground pool recommendation

Are you going to heat the pool? Seems like the water may not get very warm since it's not out in the sun. I know of someone in Oklahoma that bought a house with an indoor pool, without a heater, and the water was just too cold to enjoy. He ended up making a few solar heater boxes to set outside...

    Skinny Dippers???

I too searched for the same, but man I was overwhelmed with the results! I'm looking for another RipStop vinyl that's the same size, but now I can only find 5' wide as the widest. I am looking at creating a "louver" setup on the deck, and that would be towards the end of summer.

    Skinny Dippers???

Hello all. I was reading an old thread here about skinny dipping, are there others that enjoy using their pool and deck for getting rid of any old tan lines? I have a privacy screen that I can put up and take down in about 5 minutes, that I use on my pool deck. I bought it on the netnude.com...

    Frankenreel - Solar Cover Reel

2 years ago I asked a question about reels for a 30' diameter pool, and what reels others were using. I ended up cutting my "old" solar cover into 6 lengths, and would roll each length up and set them out of the pool when we wanted to swim. That was a major pain, but we put up with it for 2...

Above ground solar cover reel for a 30' dia. pool

Well, last year I tried something different when our old solar cover reel broke in the middle of the span across the pool. I was posting in this thread. Well, after a season of having the cover cut into 5 foot wide sections, and rolling each section up individually and removing them...

Question for users of the DIY solar cover reel

Thanks Barejewels, you really helped me out early on in the thought process through this!

Question for users of the DIY solar cover reel

Yep, that's what we are doing. It takes about 5 or so minutes to uncover or cover the pool this way, which is much longer than with the reel. We aren't positive if this was the way to go, but thought we would give it a shot, at least until we need to replace this cover in a year or two.

Question for users of the DIY solar cover reel

You can see in the first picture where the reel was connected to the cover last season, right across the center of the pool. I ended up cutting the cover down about 14" from the widest part at the center of the old reel, to allow the cover to sit flat(er) on the water. After a week or two, I may...

Question for users of the DIY solar cover reel

I ended up getting the straps from Sail Rite, they are called "Stayput Shock Cords" and I also purchased the Stayput Shock Cords Lacing Knobs". I ended up cutting the cover into 60" wide strips, which should be a little easier for my wife to take off the pool. I understand that the cover should...

Question for users of the DIY solar cover reel

Thanks for the info denhajm! Looking at that site, and thinking it through a little, I could probably get away with just one section of 3-3/4" diameter at 8' long, and stuff that inside my good sections of the 4" tube, however the 3-3/4" dia. is more expensive, just under $350, plus shipping...

Question for users of the DIY solar cover reel

Barejewels, my problem is trying to find a reel that will span close to 32' by the time its sitting on the poles. There are many reels out there for 21 to 24 foot dia. pools, but once you get above that they get scarce. My reel is actually made for a 27' pool, and it has a series of 4" dia...

Question for users of the DIY solar cover reel

I'm thinking if I cut the cover into long 3' to 5' wide strips, I would use these Stayput clips on both sides and both ends of each strip of cover, this way the cover will act as a single unit when on the water surface, and prevent the cover from blowing up in high winds, but can be easily...

Question for users of the DIY solar cover reel

I actually looked at that one back 15 years ago, and I still may consider it. The thickness and dia. were both smaller than the one I bought. We got 15 years out of the last reel, maybe the smaller reel will get us 10 to 12 years of use, who knows if the pool will last that long, or if we will...

Question for users of the DIY solar cover reel

Thanks Barejewels! Great idea about adding a picture. Here is my setup, we have a 30' dia. pool, with a 15' wide deck centered on the pool. The reel that we have used for many years worked great. It spanned across the center of the pool, and pivoted on one side to a landing post out of the way...

Question for users of the DIY solar cover reel

I was following this thread DIY Pool cover reel Very interesting thread! We have a 30' above ground pool, and I have had a great heavy duty 4" dia. reel that worked great for almost 15 seasons. Towards the end of last season it finally broke, pretty much in the center of the span. I had the...
