    Large Chip in Plaster

Thank you for that link. It describes several problems we've been seeing with our "new" plaster and all, apparently, are the result of improper application of the plaster. :( Well, now I know one pool builder I won't recommend.

    Large Chip in Plaster

Our plaster is about six years old and, several months ago, it developed this chip on the floor of the pool: It's about 4" in its longest dimension. Back when I first saw it, I called the outfit that did the new plaster and one of the partners came out to take a look. He said it was because...

    Aquarite Cell or Controller Board?

I suspect that is exactly why they don't want salt added. I think there isn't any harm in keeping the salt level near the top of the ideal range to offset what my current cell thinks is available. Once even that is insufficient for it, I'll order a new cell.

    Aquarite Cell or Controller Board?

The check cell was solid and production was halted (Generating LED turned off and the relay clicked off). I do use the flashing LED to remind me to at least visually check the cell before I reset it. I also recalibrate at that time "just in case." I'll add some salt, but I saw in the...

    Aquarite Cell or Controller Board?

I was getting the zero readings and the "check cell" indicator within a minute of turning it on, so it wasn't behaving in the normal manner. Regardless, I'll continue to monitor it to see if I need to order a new cell. I've gotten a good run out of this one, but I sure wouldn't mind getting even...

    Aquarite Cell or Controller Board?

Thank you, JamesW. I'll have to keep an eye on it as I don't know why it was not showing any current this morning and it refused to generate any chlorine. I'm generally not a fan of intermittent problems as they make troubleshooting trickier. :)

Aqua Logic low salt level, salt level is 3200-34-- but display reading 2600

When you cleaned these sensors, did you do it by standing the cell in the stand with the cord up and filling it to the brim with acid, or is there a different method for ensuring those sensors are cleaned?

    Aquarite Cell or Controller Board?

Ah, it was metric! Thank you for that. I must've toggled it when I was messing around with the readings. Here are the readings in order from the first screen: 2600 > 90 > 23.4 > 4.96 > 55P > -2600 > AL - 3 > r 1.40 The actual salt reading is around 3100. I don't know why it's now showing a...

    Aquarite Cell or Controller Board?

That's interesting about those sensors. AFAIK, I clean mine in a stand with the cord end up, too, but I fill it to the brim with the acid solution. I wonder if I'm still missing those sensors doing that. I cleaned it a month or so ago when I noticed the low salt readings, but I have never...

    Aquarite Cell or Controller Board?

Hello, all. It's been a while since I've visited TFP, but I'm in need of some assistance. :| I have an Aquarite system with a T-15 Turbocell that I installed in July of 2007. It's been working great for nearly seven years, but it started reading low numbers for the salt level about 6-7 weeks...

    The Pool Calculator

This is happening to me, too. So, it seems I need to buy the psi one, too, as buggy as it is, if I want a pool calculator on my iPhone. I think it's pretty crummy the psi company has no support for their buggy product, which is why I will likely not buy it.

    Air in WhisperFlo Basket

It seems I have fixed it. I took apart the pump lid and cleaned everything thoroughly. I scrubbed off the silicone grease and now it's working much better. There is still air trapped in the top amongst the molded chambers of the lid, but it's filled all the way up to the lid and bubbles no...

    Air in WhisperFlo Basket

Yes, the water in the skimmer is high enough that the subtle vortex that forms when I remove the basket only makes a small dimple in the water's surface. I suspected I may have cracked the PVC pipe that comes up from the ground from the skimmer, so I flooded water down the pipe after wiggling...

    Air in WhisperFlo Basket

I checked the drain plug and it isn't leaking, either. I've already flooded water over all the suction side connections and still I can't get it to fill up. Could the problem be related to the union? I've greased the O-ring and I've tried flooding it with water. I have 1.5" plumbing coming to...

    Air in WhisperFlo Basket

I tried removing the Kreepy basket so I could see the inlet at the bottom of the skimmer. I appear to get good flow, but not so much that a vortex is able to draw air.

    Air in WhisperFlo Basket

A few weeks ago, I installed a 1/2 HP WhisperFlo to replace the 3/4 Hayward that gave up the ghost. In doing the replacement, I used unions to allow me to install the new pump more easily. I'm hoping that's not a problem. Basically, since installing the new pump, I get a lot of air through the...

    Do Chlorine Tablets (Trichlor) Expire?

I tested the FC last night (~3) and again this morning and found it did not appear to lose any during the night. In fact, it almost looked like I had more chlorine this morning, but I blame this on the subjective nature of the color matching on my simple test. I removed the floater during the...

    Do Chlorine Tablets (Trichlor) Expire?

I stopped using the tablets a few years ago when I switched to a SWG, but I still have a nearly-full bucket of tablets. I just had the pool replastered about five weeks ago and have the water in ideal balance, except for the chlorine. I haven't added the salt, yet, so I've been using bleach and...

So...Where are the clouds? (New Plaster)

I'm getting the 'smoky' clouds now. I guess it took longer than I expected for the dust to appear. Man, all this sweeping is quite an arm workout!

So...Where are the clouds? (New Plaster)

Could you see the particles as grains of plaster, or was it a diffuse cloud, similar to smoke? Mine seems to be the former, but I expected the latter.

So...Where are the clouds? (New Plaster)

When I swept last night, I had to do it with the light on as it was pretty late when I got home. With the aid of the light, I did see some sand-like particles swirling around the brush. Is that the dust I should be seeing? I was expecting it to look like the clouds I used to get when the plaster...

So...Where are the clouds? (New Plaster)

They didn't add anything the to water, but I'll call him about the spots. I'm concerned the plaster set up too quickly. Is that possible? The weather is mild (around 50 degrees) and there was cloud cover while it was filling. The water is about 55 degrees. The skimmer is still drawing a little...

So...Where are the clouds? (New Plaster)

Hi, folks- I've just gotten my pool replastered (finally, since the gunite was showing in spots). The crew finished the application Tuesday at 1:30 PM and started filling it up. It finished filling last night (Wednesday) around midnight. This morning, I turned on the pump, checked the pH (8.2)...

    Aeration to RAISE PH

As a fun pool toy, I made a bubbler for the pool. It's a length of 1/4" soaker hose zip-tied to a seven-foot piece of cement-filled PVC pipe for weight and rigidity. I connect it to my large air compressor, which is located in the garage, via 100' of air hose. With the pressure regulator set for...

How long for CYA to dissolve?

I recently put a few pounds of granular stabilizer in a fine mesh bag and left it in my skimmer. It took almost two weeks to completely dissolve, in spite of a seemingly vigorous flow that had it tumbling around in there for more than six hours a day.

    Aquacheck Salt Strips way off?

Yes, the Aquarite can do that. I was recalibrating every couple of days, but it was still drifting down below its minimum. Ultimately, the issue was that my pool actually was low on salt, but the near-expired test strips were telling me the salt was nearly 1000 ppm higher than it actually was.

    Aquacheck Salt Strips way off?

I don't generally trust the SWG's reading as the tech at Goldline once told me that it can often be off by about 400 ppm or so. However, my issue was that it was reading below the unit's minimum so it was shutting down and not producing any chlorine. Thank you all for the confirmation of the...
