    Total Alkalinity Testing

Thanks. I did a full exchange of the water. So I’m feeling confident on the metals. Yes. I see the color change and then another drop to get to the full pink. I put in 3lbs of baking soda today. I’ll recheck tomorrow and see how much that moved things. Probably will need more than that...

    Total Alkalinity Testing

I just did an abscorbic acid stain treatment on my pool and am bringing it back to balanced levels. I’m currently doing a SLAM because of some algae. When testing my TA, I’m only getting 30ppm. Is this accurate or does the SLAM interfere with the TA test? I figure it could be this low since...

    Stain Treatment and SC1000

Suncoast Stop Stains. Pool store said it’s the same as Jacks #2. The back of the suncoast stain test kit actually says Jack’s Magic on it.

    Stain Treatment and SC1000

Ok. Thank you. I got some sulfamic acid from the pool store and tried it on one of the upper stair stains. No luck. I guess I’m giving up. Time to get the water exchanged and rebalanced. Thanks all for the help.

    Stain Treatment and SC1000

Thank you. Appreciate all the additional info. As mentioned prior, I didn’t add enough polyquat 60 to start and my pool is now green and cloudy. Do I have any other choices other than to SLaM it and have to restart the process all over? I know it’s going to take a lot of chlorine to do that.

    Stain Treatment and SC1000

Thanks. Is there a written method for the Jacks 2? And is there a test to do first to confirm it’d work before committing to the entire pool?

    Stain Treatment and SC1000

Noted. Thanks. Yes. I’ve read some horror stories about them. I guess I’m going to end up having to leave whatever wasn’t able to come off with the AA treatment. Here are some pics of it with some of the water drained. You can see where some of it has lifted but other areas just can’t seem...

    Stain Treatment and SC1000

Thanks. Appreciate all the insight. Out of curiosity, what do you do when/if you acid wash? Doesn’t it have to be fully drained to do that?

    Stain Treatment and SC1000

Thanks. Is the recommendation for the exchange method just for fear of the pool lifting up or some other reason? Even though we’re in FL, we live up on a sandy bluff with the water table 20+ft below. I was thinking if draining about 3/4 of it and then to start exchanging it. That’s what I...

    Stain Treatment and SC1000

Thanks. Good information. did one more round of AA treatment and have gotten good results but now the cloudiness hasn’t gotten so bad that I can’t see the bottom anymore to assess. The water makes my hands smell like pennies now, so I’m guessing the treatment worked and the water is laden...

    Stain Treatment and SC1000

Thanks. I did add it in the beginning but only a maintenance dose. I guess that wasn’t enough. I don’t have visible green when brushing but just cloudiness. I am using a metal sequestrate and culator but after further reading it looks like I should just dump the water and refill...

    Stain Treatment and SC1000

Thankfully this morning when I woke up, the stains have disappeared after running the pump all night. I’m going to keep it on recirculate until all treatment is complete. Can anyone tell me if a full dose of polyquat 60 is okay to get rid of the algae cloudiness now? It’s getting difficult to...

    Stain Treatment and SC1000

Well, hopefully I didn’t just make things worse. To see if I just needed more AA I threw about 20 vitamin C tablets in on a heavier stained area and let it sit for about 6hrs. Now when I brushed the pool, there are black stains where each tablet sat. This is odd, because the last time I did...

    Stain Treatment and SC1000

I was told to pre mix it by my pool guy but now after some research it sounds like I should have shut the pump off and just sprinkled it in. Should I do another round with that method? I’m not sure if it makes a difference but the stains seem pretty well set in on the pebble surface. They are...

    Stain Treatment and SC1000

Sorry for the delay. Thanks for replies. I’m on city water now which doesn’t have iron issues. I’ve got my pool up to 70F now, so I think we’re good. I did the AA treatment this weekend. Dropped pH down to 7.0 and chlorine to 0. Added SC1000. Started adding AA 1lb at a time premixed with...

    Stain Treatment and SC1000

We have iron staining from the previous owner using well water in our pool. Our pool guy gave me instructions to use absorbic acid, SC1000 metal control, and a culator. I know first to bring my chlorine down to zero and pH to 7.2. Our pool is currently around 60F, but the SC1000 says to use...

    Replacement Pump Reduced Pressure

This past winter our ancient 1.5hp sta-rite pump finally quit. Due to pump availability (or lack thereof at my local stores), I replaced it with a Fibropool FP150 1.5hp pump from Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/FibroPool-FP150-Swimming-Ground-Horsepower/dp/B07ZQMRX3G). All seemed well but it...

Other than the cost. Are there any detrimental effects of using Polyquat 60 over time?

    Oxidizing Shock Water Testing

That's 's everyone. A lesson learned. I was being strict about liquid chlorine as my only sanitizer but my vacation messed with my routine. Back to it.

    Oxidizing Shock Water Testing

I typically only use liquid chlorine and float one puck to handle any days I miss adding but recently I ran out of chlorine and Added a bag of chlorine free shock someone gave me to the pool after a heavy load of ppl swam. Even after three days my FC numbers are high and it is showing some CC...

Please Help Me Continue Search for Pool Leak

Correct. I understand it's all about the head pressure. However, the volume in the skimmer is small, so shouldn't it drain much quicker if is in fact the point of the leak?

    DPD Powder Shelf Life

Thanks. How about the shelf life on the other two chemicals R-0871 and R-0003? Do those last longer since they are liquid? I still have plenty of both.

    DPD Powder Shelf Life

Hi, Can anyone tell me what the shelf life is the DPD powder that comes in the TF100 kit? I've had it for about 7-8 months but the color is changing and it's starting to get clumps in it. Thanks Dennis

Please Help Me Continue Search for Pool Leak

Thanks for the feedback. The water level in the skimmer has not dropped but it's only been half a day. At a 2GPH leak I assumed I would start seeing it immediately since the skimmer doesn't hold much water. Not sure about the work involved but the pool deck still has some life left...

Please Help Me Continue Search for Pool Leak

Thanks for all the continued support on here for continuing to search for my mystery pool leak. I have been told by a leakfinder company that the leak is in my skimmer/skimmer line. He couldn't find exactly where but thinks its on the outlet of the skimmer. He told me it would be $2k to dig...

Leaky Valve / Drain Down Valve Diverter Question

Thanks. What does "closed" mean for a diverter valve? I have an inlet from the pump and then it either goes out to the solar panels or bypasses direct to the pool. I assume the drain down is a connection between the "Solar" and "bypass" but does it drain back when the valve is in either...

Leaky Valve / Drain Down Valve Diverter Question

I have a traditional roof solar heater setup that has a Pentair PTV-2TS solar diverter valve with a "leak down check valve" as its called. However, it doesn't seem to always be draining back to the pool. Can someone tell me if the valve will allow for drain back from the panels even when the...
