Hoses or PVC for Above Ground

What do you above ground pool owners do for hoses? Replace them every year? I’ve thought about permanent PVC, but everything has to come apart for winter, so not sure how to do it. Also, whenever I buy tubing from a hardware store, it is either just too small or just too big, and I end up buying...

Is there an alternative/cheaper to liquid chlorine yet?

Soooo… can I by a nice cartridge and put it on a timer myself? I know that‘s not what you did, but… instead of all the control panel pizzaz…

Is there an alternative/cheaper to liquid chlorine yet?

Have you replaced the cell yet? How long did it last, and was that the amount of time you expected?

Ok. I’m seeing 1.5 to 2x recommendations, and doing lots of reading!

Is there an alternative/cheaper to liquid chlorine yet?

Very nice resource, thank you. Talked with a buddy tonight. Turns out he has the low value rated Hayward salt and swim $600 unit on his 30’ AG pool, and just replaced his cell after 3 years of doing nothing besides adding salt at startup. Says all he ever does is check pH. (Of course unaware of...

Is there an alternative/cheaper to liquid chlorine yet?

Aah, my bad. The Hayward AquaTrol is 18,000gal. My question is if other units have an ~18,000 to 20,000gal output, does that mean they probably use the ‘same’ parts and are approximately the same life expectancy, etc? Another way to ask is if one brand is ‘better’ than t(e others.

Is there an alternative/cheaper to liquid chlorine yet?

this is great, thank you! Might save up for next year. Do you happen to know if every brand base line 20,000 gal SWG are about the same?

Is there an alternative/cheaper to liquid chlorine yet?

edit: I have an above ground pool - want to make sure a SWG is compatible. edit again - I learned that it is compatible. Something like $900-1000. I’m paying about $7/gal for 12.5%

Is there an alternative/cheaper to liquid chlorine yet?

Probably a very short thread but I’ve been using TFP for several years now without any trouble (naturally). Thank you! . A friend has a window cleaning business and I buy chlorine from him, but the price has skyrocket. Is there any TFP approved alternative to chlorine that is notably cheaper?

Help ID Above Ground Pump Noise

Bought this Hayward new at the start of last season, 12 months ago. First run during opening today it’s buzzing. Not sure if this is bearings or impeller or..? Sounds the same during backwash or normal filtering. Water is moving same as usual. One Minute Video of Noise Video is set to private...

    Borate ppm goal

This year I’d like to add Mule team to the team. I did it 2y ago and skipped it last year, which may have resulted in the pH instability I experienced. Just took the cover off, added water, and today is the day to start treatment. I couldn’t remember/find the borate goal for non-salt-water...

    Mustard Algae

I am still fighting this mustard algae. I have kept FC between 10 and 25 for 9 days now, including passing all tests, and 48 hours elevated above 25 - and the pool has been great. I have injected 12.5% chlorine into the ladder holes, and otherwise brushed and made sure water is circulating...

    Mustard Algae

This morning, in the middle of the pool, was only particle debris, not algae that clouds up when swept. Backwashed the filter, even though pressure wasn't up very much, and the water was literally darker green than the grass it washed onto. After backwashing and rinsing, and set back on...

    Mustard Algae

This morning, water is very clear, FC 24.5, CC 0.5. I didn't do overnight FC loss test because the water hadn't cleared up yet. I'll test overnight tonight fwiw. Good news is that, unlike yesterday morning with quarter sized pockets of algae throughout the entire bottom, this morning it was...

    Mustard Algae

I hate mustard algae. Keeping FC above 16 and waiting for clear water. CC has remained 0.5 or 0.0. Sweept 4x since yesterday. I hate mustard algae.

    Mustard Algae

Ok, this is good to know, and perhaps should be added to the Mustard Algae Solving Problems article. To be more specific about knowing when the mustard algae is officially killed and gone - the TFP recommended practice is elevated FC of 22 (in my case) for 24 hours. Duraleigh, are you saying I...

    Mustard Algae

Thanks, but no light. Just the ladder. I'll SLAM as prescribed, scrubbing 2x daily, then when all 3 tests pass, elevate to Mustard FC level for 24h, and sanitize all gear. I guess I'll know it's gone when it doesn't start collecting in pockets through the night? CHAD

    Mustard Algae

After the pool went green and stayed there, I drained 90% and refilled, SLAMmed, then started TFP maintenance. Since coming off SLAM, I've kept CYA 40 and the lowest FC was 5.5 since SLAM. CC is 0 or 0.5 every time i test. I have been in the pool and brushing every evening. Brushing ladder...

    Public Pools

I wonder what local parks and rec department's 'safe levels' are to clear this up in 2 days? From a local story: "The St. Joseph Aquatic Park was evacuated and closed Thursday due to a contamination event. Director of Parks, Recreation and Civic Facilities Chuck Kempf said that human fecal...

    Adding Salt to non-SWG pool

Is 1500 about the minimum to notice benefits, would you say? That's like four 40 pound bags. Also, what are the exact product names that are OK to add, like from Lowe's or Wal-mart. These are OK? Shop Diamond Crystal 40-lbs Salt Solar Crystals at Lowes.com CHAD

    Adding Salt to non-SWG pool

I read the brief paragraph about Salt in Pool School, and I like the idea, but not sure why, so I have a few further questions: > When/why would I want/need to add some salt to an otherwise fine pool? > How much salt? > Would adding ^ that much salt change any other pool chemical numbers for...

    2016 bleach prices

My buddy has a window, siding and roof cleaning business. He sells me this 12.5% at his cost if $2/gal. Whenever I need another 10gal, he pumps it out of the 55gal into a manageable container. Good stuff! I add 16oz per day the last 3 days. CHAD

    Dead Algae Always There

I have dime sized pockets of dark brown/green here and there in the mornings after everything settles. My pool also sits 20% shaded under giant pecan trees (and squirrels). I've always assumed it was pollen or other tree-related matter, but would like to know for sure. CHAD

    Doing TFP right or not?

My pool has been crystal clear for several days after completing SLAM and paying close attention to TFP recommendations. CYA 40 FC 9.5 CC 0.5 PH 7.6 TA 150 CH 130 IF these numbers stay similar, pump running half days and backwashed as needed, and FC maintained above 3 (probably err the high...
