    Repairing crack in skimmer.

Hey all, I was losing more water than usual last year, and when I closed the pool I noticed a small crack in my skimmer. I'm hoping to repair it with some kind of putty or epoxy before I open it up this year in the hopes I can delay having it replaced for a couple more years. Are there any...

    Freezing weather

Okay, pulled the trigger. Two plastic Arizona Tea bottles half full of antifreeze in the skimmer. Pump off and drained. Filter drained. Valves all open. Using less power, and won't have to think about it until things thaw. If something goes wrong with the laterals, that won't be so bad...

    Freezing weather

That makes sense, and means I don't have to mess with draining it out like a full closing. I'm not as worried about the in-ground plumbing as I am burning up or clogging my pump, then having to act super quick. I guess there's still some danger to the laterals if I just drain the equipment and...

    Freezing weather

Okay, so, last set of questions from me before I make a decision, just so I understand the risks. Thank y'all for tolerating me thinking out loud here. I really don't want to have to worry about this all week, so I'm leaning toward draining my equipment and calling it done until it thaws. I...

    Freezing weather

Thanks for the reply! We have a bit of ice/slush on top in the deep end, and I've noticed the pressure in the system go up a little. It normally runs around 20 PSI. It's running around 26-27 PSI right now, which would normally be my cue to backwash. Tonight will be the worst of it. All my...

    Freezing weather

We're in this boat starting today, and probably going through the week. We have a generator, so if the power goes out, we should be able to keep the pump running. Based on what I've read so far, as long as I can keep the pump running and leave a tarp over the equipment, I should be okay...

How Clear is TFP Clear? Let's See (Pics Only Please).

TFP member for almost 4 years. Just had our liner replaced this weekend. This is clear!

High TA After New Liner Install

Hey all. We just had our liner replaced, and it looks great! But I let the pool folks do the initial balancing for me since it was "part of the deal". I've been balancing my own chemistry based on TFP for several years, so I've never used the pool store recommendations. Everything looks fine...

    Cleaning Fiberglass Pool Steps

Thanks, Richard! We'll give it a shot over the weekend, and update when we can.

    Cleaning Fiberglass Pool Steps

So, my wife got in there with the Magic Erasers today while I was digging a french drain, and they did okay. Stairs definitely look whiter, but this is still what we're dealing with: Pretty dingy, and the liner is supposed to go in tomorrow. I'm thinking some sort of diluted acid? So...

    Cleaning Fiberglass Pool Steps

Great. Thanks, guys! I've been doing my own chemicals for the last three years, so I have not problem doing that, and Richard, I meant "we won't have any algae," which should make dialing in the chemicals more fun than slamming for 10+ days to start the season. I'll let you know how it goes!

    Cleaning Fiberglass Pool Steps

Hey, Tex and others. Thanks for the responses! I have seen the Magic Eraser suggestion elsewhere, so we might go with that. I have a couple other questions related to this project, and perhaps I should start a separate thread? Let me know if you think I should, but we might be able to get it...

    Metal Coping Paint Suggestions?

I wanted to update this when complete. We ended up using a spray metal primer in flat white. Put two coats on, then let dry overnight. The next day we used 4" rollers to put on white epoxy paint made for garage floors and other high-traffic areas. Made a huge difference! New liner should...

    Cleaning Fiberglass Pool Steps

We are getting the liner replaced in our in-ground pool, and we want to clean the fiberglass steps. They aren't horrible, but a little dingy and stained. I've Jack's Magic on Amazon. Anyone have a favorite product or DIY mixture? Maybe just go with Jack's? Thanks in advance for any advice!

    Metal Coping Paint Suggestions?

Yeah, apologies for the lack of specificity. Here's what we have going on: They came out Friday and measured for the liner, so we probably still have 2 weeks, maybe a bit more before the new liner is in. We definitely want to touch up the coping if we can.

    Metal Coping Paint Suggestions?

Hey, all. We are having our liner replaced in the next couple of weeks. Cover is off. Pool is drained. Liner is ordered. We have a standard metal coping around the pool that is white. It is showing some of the metal after wear and tear of several seasons. What is the best paint to use to...

    Skimmer suddenly not pulling water

Hmm ... "skimmer line collapsed" doesn't sound good, Jim. I have no idea what the underground lines are made of, since the pool was here when we bought the house. Not even sure who installed it. I wouldn't be surprised if there is an air leak somewhere in the system. It stays primed with...

    Skimmer suddenly not pulling water

Okay, so I ran the Drain King through from the skimmer side for 5 minutes, then from the pump side for 5 minutes, and repeated that cycle for a total of twice from each end. A few tiny bits came out again, including some small acorns, less than a quarter inch around, but nothing really...

    Skimmer suddenly not pulling water

Okay, a bit of an update here: Got the Drain King today. Shut everything down, closed the MD valve and opened the skimmer valve, then inserted the Drain King in and fired up the hose. It started making a big squeaking noise, but stayed stable. There was water coming up out of the skimmer, so...

    Skimmer suddenly not pulling water

Just ordered Drain King for 1.5" - 3" from Amazon for ~$20. Should be here Tuesday. I've closed the skimmer valve, and I'll run the pump as normal until the Drain King arrives. Then I'll shut off the MD valve and open the skimmer valve, and give the Drain King a go. I'll let y'all know how...

    Skimmer suddenly not pulling water

Thanks, Jim. Of the right size just means up to 2" right, since most of my plumbing looks to 1.5 inches?

    Skimmer suddenly not pulling water

Thanks, Tex. If I got one of those things, what should I expect to see? If the valve is defective, what is likely to happen? I assume if the valve is open, and whatever is causing the problem, I would see water bubbling up at the skimmer basket right? If it can't dislodge whatever is restricting...

    Skimmer suddenly not pulling water

Just noticed this morning that my skimmer is no longer pulling any water. The only water circulating is coming through the main drain at the moment. I know it was working when I vacuumed the pool manually on Thursday evening. I did notice a little less pressure than I would have liked so I...
