    Curious about raising PH

I'm using an aeration method to raise my PH. I used PoolMath to check quantities for some of my other numbers but I noticed under PH it says to add either soda ash or borate. Is this a short cut to raising your PH? I'm going to stick with aeration rather than add stuff to the pool, but I was...

    Cheap DIY Aerator

Long story, but I've been reducing it. Just wanted to share the idea with people who may not want to buy a sump or compressor just to aerate or for those, like me, who don't see the point in using more electricity than needed.

    Fabulous Forum!

Lucky you found this place prior to the phosphate remover. I got duped and didn't find TFP until after. They've saved me lots of money, which I chose to donate back to them for the amazing advice and hassle they've saved me. It's a small drop in the bucket compared to what a pool store would...

    Cheap DIY Aerator

HI guys, After doing some research on here on how to aerate, I saw a few good ideas posted in random areas. Some included using a sump pump. Some included using an air compressor. One, which I went with used a PVC method and the already built in returns. I liked this method for a number of...

What's the cheapest, most practical way to drain half of pool water?

Hi! I had a very similar problem. First, to check a CYA higher than 100 you can do a dilution test. Fill your tube up to the 7ml mark with pool water. Fill the tube up from 7ml to 14ml with tap water. Shake to mix. Empty tube back down to the 7ml mark. Now test as regular and multiply your...

    Just wanted to say, Thanks!

After a month long battle of correcting what the previous owners did and then what the pool stores did before I found TFP, I am finally able to say thanks with a picture. I'm clear, my CYA is back in normal range, my FC is falling back to normal levels and I've got just a few more little...

Want to make sure I'm headed in the right direction

Hi. No cloudiness and or discoloration. The pool is completely clear. I've been battling high CYA levels since I got this pool. The CYA was off the charts and so was the FC. I drained some last week and retested like I said above, but it only brought the CYA down to 110. I just want to get back...

Want to make sure I'm headed in the right direction

Been battling getting my pool back to normal levels. Neglect from when I moved in threw things in wack. Did a recent test today after draining and refilling last week. FC: 17 CC: 1 TC: 18 CYA: 110 (Used dilution method) TA: 100 PH: 8 CH: 330 Pool Calculator says need to do a variety of...

    CYA not really dropping

Thanks all, I'll do a dilution test in the AM. Just got finished setting up a surround sound system and hanging a TV for the wife for the 4th. I'm done for the day lol. And yes, Needsajet, I've got a few wonkie readings from the high FC. If I can just get the CYA to drop then I can start...

    CYA not really dropping

Hi all, My CYA was 100 last week (When I say 100, I lost sight of the dot right when the water line hit 100 so I'm somewhat confident that it is truly 100 and not higher than that. I dumped about 1 1/2 - 2 feet of my pool water and refilled using garden hoses. Checked CYA today and same...

    CYA Testing Reagent. Dumb Question

    CYA Testing Reagent. Dumb Question

Just a quick question. Is the R-0013 CYA refill pretty universal? Meaning, it isn't different from Kit to Kit? I am asking because I've noticed specific variants on what kits it's for and what type it is. I initially bought the K-2005 and bought the FAS-DPD add on from TFTestkit. Here's the...

    Question about Chlorine Consumption

So I thought I'd update my numbers today since I got the FAS-DPD test in this thread since I was suspecting that my chlorine levels were higher than my K-2006 test could handle. Here's what I got: FC: 45 CC: ~4 TC: 50 PH: 7.6 TA: 100 CH: 500 CYA: >100 So I have 2 questions. First, I am...

What Tool to Remove Tile Deposits?

Do you think a spray bottle of diluted MA and this would work? It's got stiff bristles but not hard enough to damage tile. I had very light build up on my tiles and I used this to remove it, but without the MA solution.

    Question about Chlorine Consumption

They have me a level of 5, but again the new guy was testing so it could've been higher. The service manager tried to step in and retest, but most of the water had been used. He did confirm though (as if that has any standing) that it was indeed high FC. Like I said, I'm only guessing here...

    Question about Chlorine Consumption

The water is clear with the exception of dog hair. If you've seen any of my other posts, I was pool stored before finding the TFP website and added Phosphate Remover leading to a cloudy pool and climbing PSI. The water is back to regular clarity now and the PSI takes much longer to climb. The...

    Question about Chlorine Consumption

So update, I was reading the Taylor Testing & Treatment Guide with my K-2005 and I read that what I might be experiencing is bleach out on the Chlorine Test. Since the post man hasn't delivered my FAS-DPD Test kit, I'll have to wait to see if that truly is the case.

    Question about Chlorine Consumption

I will probably need to drain and refill some. I have been at this TFP method for less than 24 hours so it's been a crash course that started with digesting the Pool School section and taking notes. Sadly Tim I did not check the FC/TC levels after adding Bleach so I am not sure if the level...

    Question about Chlorine Consumption

So this morning I tested my pool using a K-2005. My FAS-DPD kit has been ordered and was shipped today. My numbers were FC: 1 CC: 0 TC: 0 PH: 7.6 TA: 130 CH: 450 CYA: 100 Used the Pool Math calculator and added nearly 2 (121oz) bottles of good ole 8.25% Clorox at 2:30pm. Pump has been running...

    Couple of Quick Questions

I actually read that as you were posting it. I just want to thank you and commend you on such an informative section. Pool School has given me a great insight that I otherwise wouldn't have had. Seems that if my TA test is right, 90 then based on the other levels, my Saturation Index is only .15...
