Pool Builders and Liner Replacements for Madison, WI

Hey All, I'm nine years in on the 16x31 inground pool that came with our house. So far I've only outsourced having the liner replaced one time. I prefer to do most things myself unless it's a job that one guy can't really do. (Honestly, when I saw what went into replacing the liner I thought...

    Aftermarket / Drop-in Tanning Ledge?

Hah that's just about what I was thinking, too! Probably use composite decking to build it.

    Aftermarket / Drop-in Tanning Ledge?

So this might be a little chintzy looking - but I'm not in the market to build a new pool and inherited the one we have with the house we bought. (It's an inground vinyl pool.) I was thinking a tanning ledge would be nice but haven't been able to find any sort of post-build options. What I'm...

Any point in running low speed if no filter PSI?

I just got a Hayward SP2303VSP to replace a 3/4HP single speed 3400RPM pump. I'm still playing around with figuring out what speeds and times to use. I don't like the idea of letting my pool water sit with no movement so I thought I'd set 1000RPM from 7pm to 7am but I've noticed that the...

Rocks under vinyl liner - should I be worried?

Bigger than pebbles for sure. Some of them are sharp enough that they kind of hurt if you step on them. I would have thought the installer would have taken care to not put a new liner on top of things that might be able to puncture it but I'm pretty sure they wanted to get in and out as fast...

Rocks under vinyl liner - should I be worried?

I had a new liner installed this year and I can feel rocks in many places underneath. Should I be worried about this? Is it unreasonable to expect that the installer would have addressed this before putting the liner in?

    Over my head in Wisconsin

Sweet build. I'll be really curious to know how you like the greenhouse as the summer progresses. You never used the pool without having it, right?

Slow down vinyl liner fading - tips/tricks.

Thanks gwegan and duraleigh. @duraleigh - I only had about 1.5 seasons with this pool and liner before the liner replacement (scheduled for today!) but I'll be honest I was kind of just doing a hodge podge partly based on what was on sale at Menard's. Usually a Utikem product. Some chlorine...

Options for replacing or refacing plastic coping set into concrete?

I'm not sure but probably a whole lot. The coping is set into the concrete so I'm sure it would require tearing all of that up to replace it correctly.

Slow down vinyl liner fading - tips/tricks.

Does anyone have tips on this? Using only premixed chemicals seems like a good idea versus ever putting any powder directly into the pool water. Are there any products out there specifically designed to take it easy on vinyl? When I inherited our pool two years ago I didn't think anything...

Options for replacing or refacing plastic coping set into concrete?

Thanks for the welcome; good to be here! Here's a picture: http://puu.sh/pbVrY/89dd3980c7.JPG You can't tell so much from the picture but up close in certain spots there are hairline cracks, etc. For now until I can find a better option I am just going to keep building up layers of...

Options for replacing or refacing plastic coping set into concrete?

My pool coping isn't in the greatest shape. I've already done some epoxy patching and used some SEM paint to try to rehab it a bit. Are there any better options short of tearing up all of the concrete? Maybe something thin that can go over the front of it?

Tightening screws on plastic pool coping?

I'm having my vinyl liner replaced on my inground pool and there are some spots where a gap has formed between the concrete and the coping. Is it OK to tighten the screws up a bit (pictured) as long as I don't over-torque them? http://puu.sh/pbVrY/89dd3980c7.JPG

How bad is my pool bottom? (Pictures)

The pool came with our house two years ago; vinyl liner was ancient and gave up the ghost this year. I pulled it back and this is what it looks like. Is this really bad? Normal? I have no basis for comparison. Thanks! Deep End http://puu.sh/pbFK4/b71fc1a4ea.JPG Shallow End...

Expectations for Inground Vinyl Liner Replacement w/Sand Bottom

Hi Dave, Thanks for the reply. When you say "They may not have even taken into consideration which type it is when bidding the install" do you mean that from the installer's perspective it doesn't really matter and they'll just work around whatever is there? I'm just hoping to avoid a...

Expectations for Inground Vinyl Liner Replacement w/Sand Bottom

Hi all, I've been sleuthing a bit since we acquired a house with a pool two years ago and this is my first post. Our liner was on borrowed time when we bought the house two years ago and this April it gave up the ghost. I've already contracted with a local outfit to replace the liner and it's...
