    Another Green Pool Opening

Hi, actually, our most recent issue from a couple days ago ended up not being an algae re-occurrence, but an iron/metals build-up, which is why I started the ascorbic treatment rather than slamming (which was making the pool worse). Re-balancing is referring to TA, pH, and then chlorine after...

Thanks for your input. I'm so so SO glad I went the route of doing the acid treatment, it WORKED. The pool has never been this blue; years and years of staining/brownish debris is gone. I honestly can't believe it. It's a little cloudy still, as expected, but it has never looked better color...

What's everyone else's cycle run time?

    Another Green Pool Opening

I'm thinking once it's all cleared up again, I'm going to change it to run on an every 6hr cycle, so that way it's not off for too long.

Thanks for the additional insight. The reason we backwash, is although the pressure may not have gone over the 25/30%, we do see that the return slows quite a bit, so makes me think circulation is suffering? I did find info on citric acid in the search, thanks, and will try that. If I'm adding...

I don't have an Intex Pool. I have a Kayak above ground pool. Intex is the filter. To answer your questions: 1) During SLAM/start-up, it was running 24/7. Once completely clear and passed, we run it 12 hours during the day and off at night. Again, with this routine it was clear for a couple of...

Has anyone used citric acid for metals removal instead of ascorbic? How much more do I need? Original thread I mentioned in previous post says .5 lb of AA per 10,000 gallons, but citric requires more. I have only an 8600 gallon pool. I'm thinking if I order a 2 lb bag I should be ok?

    Another Green Pool Opening

No, usage is not an issue or toys/equipment. Just read an article about metals and iron specifically, that it could be a result of all the rain and considering I've been adding more chlorine and it's now turning greener, I think that may be the issue. So, will try that. Pool School - Metals in...

    Another Green Pool Opening

Umm, thanks, but we're 4 years into this pool, and I've had the kit and done testing for at least 2 of those years, so I won't call myself a pro, but I know what I'm doing in regards to testing. If I was able to get through the SLAM, testing it every 2-3 hrs and using PoolMath to add the...

    Another Green Pool Opening

Thanks. I've added conditioner to raise CYA on two separate occasions (already have a bucket), and tested it twice since opening. It hasn't gone up. I will add more and continue SLAM in meantime. Just not sure if anything else could be at play here. This exact scenario happened last season too...

Yes, although it turned clear, I didn't stop SLAM until passed the three criteria. It was clear for a good two weeks, even through the rains, but the green-ness has crept on over this past week.

HELP! I have no idea what's going on. So, after we opened with the "swamp," going through SLAM, it only took about 3 days and we had a crystal clear pool. By the date of my previous post, you can see, that was three weeks ago. Everything was great and I was maintaining a chlorine level of about...

Thanks for the quick reply Richard. I thought for sure would need to get pH up at least, but alright, 10.5 jugs of bleach just screaming to be used :p

Everything's hooked up, vacuumed to waste 3 times, filter is running, chem tests done. Do I start with getting TA up or pH up before SLAM? CL: 0 TA: 30 pH: 7.0 CH: 125 CYA: 20

    Getting ready to close

I wanted to ask quickly as I was reading through the Above Ground Pool Closing article in PoolSchool it suggested using a polyquat algaecide. Can someone point me to actual brand names or products that I should look for either online through Amazon or at Leslie's? I'm sure online would be...

    Back to square one :(

I'll check Home Depot or Lowe's, but I can get the 8.25% concentrated bleach at Target too :) Yeah, Walmart said they're not stocking pool/summer stuff anymore, so it will not return.

I will keep at it, certainly can't get worse, right? It's definitely alive and well. Brushing constantly here. I'm sad Walmart stopped selling the 10% liquid and it's out of stock online. Have to settle for the 8.25% bleach.

Thanks, me too. We've already missed 2+ of the hottest/most humid weeks where kids couldn't swim.

Buckeye, I am a she, no matter though. MarianParoo,I will raise FC, but I know for the last two days it has been at over 20 because when hubby is home alone he doesn't test the water just adds extra bleach and when I test in pm when get home or first thing in am, it's always 20 or above. I'll...

    Back to square one :(

We've tried algaecide before (as in before I learned and started with the TFP way) without resolve and I'll try it if I know exactly which one to get and with strong recommendation. Leslie's is the pool store near me.

    Back to square one :(

Yes, sir. Became a TFP converter when first opened this pool with the kit, following all directions, and had a crystal clear pool within 1 week of opening with testing, brushing, vacuuming, etc. Have no idea why after 2 months I'm starting from scratch, doing all I'm supposed to, and no results...

    Back to square one :(

Extremely frustrating. Here are pics, looks as if we just took the cover off. P.S. to address CYA again, it hasn't varied from 50 since we opened the pool with regular testing, so retesting it from just 2 days ago does not seem relevant to this and just seems to waste the reagent. - - - Updated...

I did an OCLT two days ago...I have practically no overnight loss and barely any during the day. Why retest the CYA from two days ago? My CC is only .5 as well.

    Back to square one :(

We have over two weeks of maintaining chlorine at 16 or above, and there's no change whatsoever. It's as green as ever. When I slammed at opening, there was obvious change from day to day and we were clear within a week. What else could be at play?

    Back to square one :(

I always glance at the gauge, but not sure if I've steadily tracked it really. I'm sure it's possible at times when I would let it go for 2-3 days at a time while we were in the clear. But now, when I'm constantly cleaning and stuff, I just backwash once daily and have never seen our pressure...
