    High CYA after substantial draining

I read that wrong seems like it’s drained enough. Appreciate the insight!

    High CYA after substantial draining

Refilling now was more looking to see if that pic seems like 75% or more of the water was drained. MI has deep water tables and for once I’m my 44 years it hasn’t been rainy all April/may lol

    High CYA after substantial draining

I just drained almost all the water using a trash pump. Does this seem like enough of a drain? But like a dope I did not wait for the water to circulate the first time, but tbh after doing this I feel I was no where near the 75%. Appreciate all the help!

    High CYA after substantial draining

One last question here’s a couple pics. The deep end is 8ft and shallow is 3-4ft. Would the water need to be only a small amount in the deep end for this to work

    High CYA after substantial draining

Yeah, this was what I was attempting and felt my estimation on the amount I drained was wrong leading to continued high levels when retesting. I looked over the steps, my water in is only gonna be a garden hose. Will that still work?

    High CYA after substantial draining

It was 90 diluted with the doubled value being 180 and was the same after removing water and filling further up. I was trying to see if there was slight improvement but it read the same. There is algae present as well, but I didn’t think that affected CYA results, not sure if that’s an issue.

    High CYA after substantial draining

Sorry, reading this I worded it wrong. I drained to the top of the last step not the first. Does that still seem like not enough water?

    High CYA after substantial draining

Had off the charts CYA, did a dilution test and got 90. Drained down to the first step of 22K gallon pool. Refilled and am still getting the same readings. When doing the test the water is white cloudy in the squirt bottle. I’m also in MI and the water read 55 when I first started the pump...

    Thank you!

I just wanted to drop a line thanking everyone on here who helped me get my pool opened and swim ready. This is my first summer owning a pool and I was pretty lost on how to maintain the water quality, but thanks to TFP I have a clear pool for the upcoming holiday weekend. Hope everyone enjoys...

    When to SLAM

Great info, thanks guys! I'll be fixing the pH once the robot is done cleaning and will go from there.

    When to SLAM

I've just opened my 19,000 gallon IG pool with 4 ft and 6 ft deep end and there is 0 chlorine and CYA is below 30 and PH test was yellow TA was 10 ppm, I filled half the pool with Detroit city water so that accounts for low levels. My pool is clear so I was curious if I need to SLAM the pool or...

thanks! I will definitely be taking a cautious approach as your explanation makes more sense than what I was envisioning, :p

    CYA Test

yes, get the appropriate pH and then add the stabilizer to target CYA. My biggest confusion is how much of each product to buy based on the amounts shown in PoolMath. I put in 19K gallons and 6 for pH as I was below which gave 323 oz by weight. Am I reading that right as being roughly 20 lbs of...

    CYA Test

Kinda, but I guess I can't tell what to start with. Should the pH be raised using soda ash first and then add stabilizer to up the CYA to target and then add bleach? I also can't understand what by weight or by volume means in the PoolMath fields. i figured by weight would mean that many oz in...

    CYA Test

Does pH have to be stabilized over a long period to start the SLAM, or do you start once you get the pH reading of 50? My understanding is get pH right, then raise CYA and then bleach.

    CYA Test

I tesed TA and 1 drop turned the sample red so I assume it's low at 10 ppm and need to add soda to up it. I am in the process of getting a pool vacuum and assume I should vacuum first before attempting to alter the levels. This is really helpful and I appreciate all the knowledge!

    CYA Test

I believe I did figure out my steps for upping the CYA and SLAMing the pool. My pH test was yellow though, so I assume there is very low pH and I need to add soda ash from what I'm reading before I being the SLAM. Is that correct?

    CYA Test

Thanks for talking this out with me. I read the pool math article and see how it works now!
