    pH high and TA low-question

I have been following the BBB method for 1 year now (I guess it's my anniversary) but I have never needed to adjust my TA, it has always been in the acceptable range for a manually chlorinated pool. We have had more than 3 inches of rain here in the last 24 hours so I knew that the water was...

    Do you have pool regrets?

It is costly but there are benefits besides the pure enjoyment 1) Children who have pools learn to swim which in my opinion, EVERYONE should know. We have just had a hurricaine here in NC and the flooding is record-breaking. 18 people have drowned so far that we know of. 2) Your house becomes...

Help-want to get scale off vinyl liner

I have a pool heater and had thought about using it some since the nights here are getting cooler but the days are still in the 80s. I know that makes a difference but I'm not quite there on understanding all the implications while trying to make the pool water resistant to scale.

Help-want to get scale off vinyl liner

PoolguyinCT - The scale is not visible to the eye unless it gets algae growth on it, which it did this week. The pool looks great now and I passed the occult test last night. It was a short slam-thank the Lord. The scale feels like sandpaper to the touch. LeeBo - The liner was replaced 3 years...

Help-want to get scale off vinyl liner

I am currently slamming the pool because I have been neglecting it since school started and developed algae in the bottom and sides of the pool. It is looking much better now. I joined TFP at the beginning of this season so following the methods here for 5 months now. (My husband always...

Thanks Duraleigh. I needed that reminder. The pool has full sun and I'm monitoring the level closer.

    Need help with pH-still learning

I have been using the TFP methods for 6 weeks or so but my pH has been running on the high end of normal. I still had some pH down from the pool store so I used it but now need to add something I've never done before-muratic acid. I looked for some at Lowes the other day (because I knew I was...

Multiport leaking to waste when on filter

Thank you zea3! I made a trip to the pool company and picked up a new Hayward key, cover, and handle assembly along with the o-ring and lube (my waste line would not reach the pool). I came home and got it back together and it is working great! I know it is a small project but it was a lot for...

Multiport leaking to waste when on filter

I don't know what a key assembly is-does that mean I need to replace the top, or a seal, or the whole multiport? Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk

Multiport leaking to waste when on filter

Ok, decided to take the top off(by myself) and this is what I found. All the parks look normal, not warped. The green sealer was absent on part-it was not even on the main body. The metal parts in the multiport look fine. There does look to a crack in the center white part of the lid but this...

Multiport leaking to waste when on filter

Thanks duraleigh! My hubby doesn't want to touch it and if I do anything with it, I may never hear the end of it. My pool repair fella is in California till Thursday. I did find some videos online. It doesn't look too hard. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk

Multiport leaking to waste when on filter

I woke this morning to a low pool level causing the skimmer to suck air and air bubbles coming into pool. It was fine yesterday evening. My husband backwashed the filter before we came in for the night. I checked to o-ring seal at the basket at the pump and there are no leaks anywhere that I can...

    Too soon to test CYA?

I used PoolMath to calculate how much CYA was needed to raise it from 30 to 50 and it called for 28oz of stablizer by volume. I added 3 cups of grandular stabilizer in a sock in the skimmer on Friday and last night the sock was empty so I removed it. Tested the CYA this morning and it was only...

Best CYA level for Southeast NC?

Full sun until late afternoon. We aren't losing much yet but I would expect that to change with summer use.

Best CYA level for Southeast NC?

Now that our pool is in maintenance mode (looks great) I am trying to decide if I should raise the CYA level a little for the upcoming sunny hot days to make it easier to keep the free chlorine level stable. I can keep it anywhere from 30 to 50 so what will make my life the easiest? I did add...

    Want to add Borates

So far I really do like it. It does climb the wall and cleans the water line. You can set it on a schedule if you leave it in the water. It comes with a 2 year warranty and the pool store 40 miles from me is a certified repair place if I did need them. We had a AquaBot that worked for a couple...

    Want to add Borates

The pool looks great. I just swept after adding the boric acid. I have learned so much here and appreciate all the help. I am excited to think that I won't have to travel to the pool store 40 miles from here to be able to have a beautiful pool. My chlorine levels have come down from my SLAM to...

    Want to add Borates

I printed out the info "Borates-How and Why" and decided that I want to try them. This morning my levels were: FC 4.5 CC 0 TA 90 CYA 34 pH 7.6 Do I need to do anything to the pH if I am using Boric Acid from DudaDiesel? I have them in and am ready to go. Thanks!

This morning FC is 18 so that passes the OCLT test. The water is clear but I am still a little uneasy about that dirt in the pool. I am going to vacumm today. The water gets cloudy when I vacumm or sweep until it settles to the bottom again. I am tempted to use a manual vacumm to waste rather...

As of Friday, I didn't know yet what to purchase to deal with my test results. We have a chlorinator and have used the pucks in it over the last 15 years but after finding this web site and studying up on pool school, I decided to do this method and see if it worked. I turned the chlorinator...

The bottom was clean 2 days ago. Is this normal? Please see previous post for more info. The flakey stuff on the steps is excess calcium buildup coming off the steps I think. It was yellowed last year and the descaler I put in last summer has helped. Thanks for your replies!!
