    Clear water, musty smell

Cover pit is clean, cleared everything out at opening. I'm pretty sure the smell is coming from the water. I can smell it on the kids after they've gotten out of the water.

No, not fishy. Musty. Like the health club shower!

    Clear water, musty smell

I haven't posted in a while because my pool has been trouble free!! This season opened up late April to a beautiful, sparkling pool. It's been rainy and a terrible spring here in Chicago. My pool has been blue, but had a few bouts of looking like it may go south so I started SLAM. My problem is...

SWG production of FC in ppm?

Thanks, I wasn't sure if "pure chlorine" was the same as "chlorine gas" in the pool math calculator...though I suppose I could've checked my answer there to see if it made sense selecting chlorine gas as the source :) I know on the CYA, was trying to get through the SLAM and stabilize before...

SWG production of FC in ppm?

    If an Intellichlor IC20 produces 0.70 lbs of pure chlorine every 24 hours on a 100% setting (per the manual), would that equate to about 4.0ppm of FC in a 20,600 gallon pool? Here's my math: ppm = mg/L .70 lbs = 317,514 mg 20,600 gallons = 77,979 L FC ppm = 317,514 mg/77,979 L = 4.07 ppm What...

Pentair CYA test shows near zero

Yes, it is the same as the link above. I meant the Taylor K-2006 test kit CYA test. That thing is hard to get a good CYA reading when your level is low.

Pentair CYA test shows near zero

I just got this Pentair CYA test kit today and absolutely love it. Granted I need to get my CYA up, but it was perfect to see that my dot doesn't disappear until the slider is almost exactly between 20 and 30. With my Taylor kit, it's really hard to see the dot change with the lower numbers...

Chemicals seem to be in balance, but water cloudy...and getting cloudier...any ideas?

Today is day 3 of my SLAM. My CYA is 40, I tested a bunch of times transferring solution back and forth trying to get a reading, I settled on CYA of 40 to err on the side of caution, so using 16 as my target FC level instead of 12. I tested 7 times on day 1 between 4pm and 11pm, adding enough LC...

Chemicals seem to be in balance, but water cloudy...and getting cloudier...any ideas?

This is the soot type stuff I'm talking about at the bottom of the pool. This was earlier today in the deep end after the 4 lbs of cal hypo (73%) last night. This is what we get all the time, it would be back after about an hour of using the Dolphin cleaner. What is this junk? Here's the...

Chemicals seem to be in balance, but water cloudy...and getting cloudier...any ideas?

That's definitely something to look into for next season. Our electricity usage increases by about $80/month average in the summer months when the pool is open. But of course that includes extra electricity usage to run the A/C as well. - - - Updated - - - But I've definitely been looking to...

Chemicals seem to be in balance, but water cloudy...and getting cloudier...any ideas?

Now that you say that, I was wrong about the pump. I was going off of memory, which I shouldn't do. I just pulled my notes from my "pool lesson" after the build was complete a few years ago, and my regular setting is 2200 rpm, my Aux 2 setting for vacuuming is 2800 rpm. I am minimally...

Chemicals seem to be in balance, but water cloudy...and getting cloudier...any ideas?

Thanks, I was thinking I prob need to SLAM, especially with now having a CC reading which I never had before this morning. I do run my pump 24/7 on 1000 rpm speed (with SWG between 80 and 100%). When I manually vacuum I bump it up to 2200 rpms. My PB input these settings when he installed. I've...

Chemicals seem to be in balance, but water cloudy...and getting cloudier...any ideas?

I use the Taylor K-2006 to test my water, as well as the Taylor 5-way test kit for in-between readings when I don't have time to do the full set of readings or when water looks good to the eye. Pool has been a bit cloudy sporadically since opening, but gradually getting worse over the last week...

    Jandy Minijet stream adjustment?

Yes, I think they're on the same line, but I'm not 100% certain. My PB is no help, after he cashed the final check he was checked out.

    Jandy minijet stream adjustment?

We have 2 Jandy minijets mounted in our deck. The stream on one jet is shorter/lower than the stream on the other one. Anyone know how to adjust the flow? Can it be done at the jet or does it require adjustment underground with the plumbing? I'm not talking about the valve to turn jets on/off...

I think I added too much BurnOut 73

Thanks Isaac, I figured that was what you meant. I was petrified that much chlorine would literally fry the equipment. Anyway, all's good for now. Can you see the sparkle?

I think I added too much BurnOut 73

Good news, all equipment seems to be working well and FC is down to 3ppm (per OTO and Aquacheck strips) after 3 hours of direct sunshine. I turned the SWG back up to 60% and will just sit tight until test kit gets here on Friday. I did leave the stabilizer sock in the skimmer bc I'm certain my...
