Back on site after hiatus, now a tenant with an awful pool and mandatory pool guy

It is my exclusive use. Single family home with pool in back yard. Nervous landlord and I understand because she knows nothing about it. Ignorance leads to fear. Same guy also does the yard which I don't want to take over although I'm qualified to do so. He said he didn't mind if I used...

Back on site after hiatus, now a tenant with an awful pool and mandatory pool guy

We get about 6" of rain per year  so there is no real drainage system. The yard is starting to suck up water but not that much. I had figured to do it a little at a time but when I diluted the water 50% to do the CYA test today I was shocked that it was still over 100. I've broached the...

Back on site after hiatus, now a tenant with an awful pool and mandatory pool guy

Background: I successfully managed a 7500 gallons above ground pool for 4 years in Central CA thanks to TFP. Used TFP from day one and never had to shock. Several years without a pool and after last relocation was able to rent a home with a pool. I knew it would be bad but I had no idea how...

defeating the purpose but possibly enjoyable?

you think it's hot in SOCAL, come up to the central valley! Been blazing lately but thankfully relatively low humidity. Sorry, no opinion on the skylight.

TA is on the rise. Loath muriatic acid.

My tap is very high TA and I had to add MA weekly at first. Over three years it's probably now monthly and I've actually had to add baking soda to bring my TA back up to around 70 (pucks got me during a two week vacation). I just learned that approximately a third of a gallon brings my pool...

    Green Algae

Also, this needs to move to "Algae Prevention and Treatment" and you might get more help. I just realized this was in "introduce yourself." Hopefully a mod comes around and can move it.

    Green Algae

yes, you should stop using it because it is probably adding stabilizer. Have you read Pool School yet, especially "How to Shock a Pool."?

    Green Algae

oh, do you mean bags of SHOCK? You can buy "Shock" which is not only useless, but harmful. Shocking the pool requires chlorine and time. Read the links I posted earlier.

what are you putting in the sock? For BBB, I think stabilizer (CYA) is the only chemical that uses a sock to dissolve. I just found the post I was referring to: http://www.troublefreepool.com/cloudy-pool-t44192.html It's 8 pages so if you don't want to slog through, read the first couple...

What is "socked"? Start here: http://www.troublefreepool.com/pool-school/ Read Getting Started and Pool Chemistry, paying close attention to tests. You must stop listening to the pool store and buy your own test kit per the article in Pool School. Next...

2 years later, the CYA is already at 330

If you are using pucks, it's amazing how fast it can climb. I keep my CYA on the lower side to allow for creep on vacation. I was gone for 14 days in June and had to use pucks in a floater. Went from 40 to 65 in two weeks. I knew it would jump but was surprised it jumped that much. I tend...

Here is how to properly install an AG Pool.

I asked what nutgrass was as well before installing my pool three years ago. I've found out it is the most insidious weed ever and I've fought some bad ones (mint anyone?). Thankfully it hasn't hit my pool but my neighbor doesn't "control" it and it is coming under the fence 5' from the pool...

    Opinions on pool and equipment

Ask about a two speed pump, not a variable speed. A variable is more complicated to wire and more expensive. I changed a single speed Hayward 1.5 for a two speed 1 hp and haven't regretted it. Good luck!

Does R-003 DPD Reagent #3 go bad?

I did not lose FC overnight, btw. Wasn't testing for OCLT, just testing my shock level at 10pm and when I got up to begin again and it was the same. Will test again after dark tonight.

thanks. water is more milky now than green. Will keep level up and hope filter works quickly.

Does R-003 DPD Reagent #3 go bad?

oh, since I've bumped up to shock, should CC start showing up soon? I'm on my third year, all BB and never had a problem until a couple months ago where i had to shock. Didn't cover the pool earlier in the winter which caused problems with the first warm spell. Covered it after I regained...

Does R-003 DPD Reagent #3 go bad?

Reagent is probably from start of last summer season. It is normally stored inside but the girls have been known to leave it on the patio table (covered). I hadn't thought of that. I tested an hour later after boosting to shock levels and it turned slightly pink on CC. Not what I'd expect...

Does R-003 DPD Reagent #3 go bad?

Been a long week at work and have gotten home after dark. I've pestered the rest of the family to make sure they were testing and we've been at 5 FC with 0 CC. Well I pulled back the solar cover when I got home today and immediately knew we had a problem. I've bumped up to shock level but...

may have put too much bleach to start out with?

Re: Still not sure on the bleach?? Mods do want to you stick to one thread so it can be followed. Are you familiar with the pool calculator? Assume the CYA is there once dissolved. If you measured, you should know what the result will be. Plug the numbers in the calc and add chlorine...

    Frogs dying

maybe this is a hijack but it's frog related. We have toads all over our yard. Pool is above ground so no issues. Well last week I had a mouse trap in the garage go MISSING! Looked everywhere. I had just set it the night before and questioned the whole family. I couple days later found the...

    Green pool

do you drain your pool each year? that will resolve your CYA problem but if you are using pucks your CYA level has risen as the year went on causing more problems now. There is a section on temporary pools.

    Green pool

walmart sells a 6-way for less than $30 that will at least allow you to test for CYA. You have to know that. It will still be difficult to shock but depending on your CYA level, you may be able to do it by diluting your samples 2 or 3 to 1 with distilled water. What have you been using as your...

    Starting over......All equip stolen

sorry, not your point but completely irritates me when folks take stuff that's not theirs. Irritates me just as much when someone being foreclosed on intentionally vandalizes the home. Glad you don't seem as frustrated.

    Grilled apples

i cook the onion about 30 minutes but I don't time it. The tin foil keeps it from really burning. I do usually put it on the higher rack (usually for bread) after 20 minutes and with my grill that eliminates worry of scorching. (Charbroil Big Red - love it BTW)

yum. I take an onion and core it then stuff with garlic and butter, wrap in aluminum foil and toss on the grill with meat du jour. Sounds like a great addition!
