    Flock waste

I used flocculant for the first time this weekend. I concluded a SLAM with cloudy water because the FC seemed steady and I didn't want to keep running the pump 24/7. The flock brought the water to crystal clear overnight. I vacuumed to waste, then again the next day because the flocked stuff...

Hissing after burst sound then elevated PSI

Yesterday I noticed significantly less volume of water returning to pool from waterfall, checked pump and there was a hissing sound and filter PSI at 30 (instead of normal 20). Water flow was at 60 gpm instead of normal 80 gpm. Turned it off and backwashed it. No hissing sound. Re-set to Filter...

Other Ideas for public messaging on Water Safety

Hi all, I'm working with our health department to think of ways to get messages out to families and pool owners regarding water safety. I've looked at the national associations, and they have great resources, like videos and infographics and websites. I'm inquiring here if you have happened to...

    Mustard algae

Reposting this from yesterday...I have struggled with mustard algae this year as well... First, a couple questions: - Does MA show up on the CC test? I've had the dust all this year, and even after brushing it up, I would still get 0.0 CC. - I saw somewhere (here?) a different FC minimum for...

    PoolMath and TFP Goal levels

I noticed in PoolMath when set to TFP.com goal levels, the TA Goal changes when the source of chlorine is changed between bleach and Tri-chlor, with Tri-chlor having a higher range. This isn't the case with the traditional goal levels. Just curious...why is that?

    Raise TA for trichlor

For 9 days I had our house sitter use pucks instead of bleach because it seemed easier. He put in about 1 puck per day. When we returned last week I kept using the pucks. I checked the numbers today and my TA has never gone this low before, and same with my pH. On Pool Math I noticed that...

    Pump mount screws, or not??

Hi all, Having tired of watching my old Hayward Super II pump (SP3015EE) develop issues over the year I have decided to replace it. Amazon today shipped my new Pentair Superflo VS 1.5 HP (342001) and 2" pump unions. Did I read here at TFP that many pool owners do not bolt their pump mounts to...

Removing Pump & I Broke Mounting Bolt

I wanted to remove my pump because I wanted to re-thread both the in & out connections (some drips, shorting out my motor. Background: pumping station is on slope below/beside pool; Gravity to pump works even with motor off). Removing pump was only way to unscrew the in, which has a glued 90 on...

    Leak in flex pvc pipe

I noticed the drip occurred only when jets were on. After accessing the piping and turning jets on, water sprayed out from the curve in the pipe, spraying to the left. I cannot see the hole as it is around the curve, but drew a red arrow to where I think the water was spraying from (see pic)...

    Algae and Filter is Offline

Aloha all. I was in the tail-end of slamming my pool when my sand filter sprang a leak and I had to turn it off. Until the parts arrive and I get out to fix it, I have it on Recirculate. The algae that was almost gone seems to be returning. I think. I have 5 3" tabs total between the 2 skimmers...

    Replacing Side Mount O-Ring Spacer

Aloha all. This is my first post and I appreciate all that I have learned here. Our new place of 3 months now came with an awesome pool. Big learning curve, but now I have something rather worrisome. The O-Ring spacer (SX360E) between my Hayward S310S side-mount sand filter (top elbow) and...
