    My Pool is a Swamp

Hi Carpenter's Lady, There are companies that do plaster repair and not just full replaster. It depends on the damage and the quality of the remaining plaster as to whether or not it is a good idea. There are even some that can repair it without draining. Just something to think about...

    My Pool is a Swamp

Hello! The guys and gals around here will be able to make that pool sparkle with minimal investment(certainly not 6k!). To answer your original question though, of whether you should clear it up or fill the hole, of course this is a personal question. My preference would be to clear it up...

New Pool Chemical Step by Step???

I will third that sand recommendation. I put the HTH pool sand from Ace Hardware in my 650lb filter and have had no issues for the last month or so that it has been in there. No sand in my pool, and it works perfect.

Using a site like Imgur, or Photobucket and linking the pictures would be the best way to add them, short of donating to TFP.

New pool owner trying to put it all together!

Yes, the CYA test needs to be done on a sunny day to be accurate, unless maybe you are really good at it. Ideally, CYA for a non-SWG pool would be between 30 and 50, but 70 is not unworkable. A partial drain could be done using the information in Pool Math to determine how much would get you...

New User - Doing first drain - What do I need to know?

But the problem is that the demand created by the astronomical CYA value would mean that you would have to use a crazy amount of chlorine. With a CYA of only 100, you would have to get to 39 FC to start a slam. If you were somewhere north of 200 CYA, you might not have been high enough, even...

    2016 Muriatic Acid Prices

Cheapest I have found so far in Las Vegas is 2 gal of 31.45% for $12.99 from Ace Hardware. The Home Depots I have been to only stock the HDX 14.5% stuff. Let me know if anyone has a cheaper option here in Vegas!

Hi Jim! I am new around this site but I read your whole thread and found it very interesting. I hope that what you have learned here changed your mind on filling your $60,000 pool with dirt! Good luck with everything, the guys and gals here will help you get it all squared away! -Cody

Concrete pool deck, paint or stain it?

I do not know what people do in Washington State, or what is popular there for this sort of thing, but I have always liked what we call cool deck down here. It can be a variety of colors and It always looks nice to my eyes. Check this thread for pics of what I am using, again the color can vary...

    New to TFP, Nashville, TN

Welcome Rocket50! If you haven't already, head over to pool school and get some knowledge. It will make your pool experience much easier to know in advance what to expect when you get your test kit. I just started with this stuff but I have been at it for about a month prior to joining here...

    Greetings from Las Vegas!

Hello TFP! My first few posts were related to some questions I had about my new sand filter but I never took the time to properly introduce myself and my pool. This pool is a 14k gallon in ground gunite and plaster pool that was beautiful for a while, then neglected, and always filled with...

New Sand Filter water diffuser question.

One more follow up to complete the instructional guide. The ring next to the pump can be loosened without removing the multivalve, but the valve will have to be at least disconnected at the top to rotate the diffuser arm. A 4.5in pair of channel-locks worked great for loosening the connection. I...

New Sand Filter water diffuser question.

OK, so after 2 hours of hold time with Hayward I finally got to talk to an actual person in support. I'll add the information here so that it can become part of the general knowledge base for TFP. The Hayward HCF302 commercial sand filter has a single diffuser right at the opening as pictured...

New Sand Filter water diffuser question.

And I will apologize now, I noticed after I posted that this probably would be best served in the pump/filter section. First post, and I already made a mistake!

New Sand Filter water diffuser question.

Hello TFP! I am getting a pool that has been empty for a couple of years back in shape. The plaster was redone earlier this month and I have been limping the system along with the old cartridges that are at least 5 years old. They are a pain in the behind here in Las Vegas. It's a pain to clean...
