Bleach leaves to much salt in the pool?

Still waiting to see if anyone has any recommendations on test kits. I also learned that in TX heat of 100+ I need to keep my CYA at about 50 as was recommended. I do that by putting in so Trichlor pucks and test until I get what I need. I backwash a lot so its a process of just testing every week.

Bleach leaves to much salt in the pool?

So which works for me. I dont want the one that will unlock the secrets of all pool chemistry. I just one that covers most things and is easy to use. 1) The TF-100 Test Kit - the finest, most comprehensive swimming pool test kit you can buy. 2) The TF-100 XL - for clearing green pools (it...

Bleach leaves to much salt in the pool?

Also any recommended test kits that include a test for CH level. At this point I dont want to trust the two local pool stores anymore than I have already. Everytime I go in they come up with a new way to try and sell me something expensive.

Bleach leaves to much salt in the pool?

Here are the numbers I got from the pool store test. I do not have a kit yet so I have to use them for now. FC=4.0 TC=4.0 cc=0 pH=7.6 hardness=not run Alkalinity= 100 CYA=40 copper=0 TDS=not run Phosphates=1000 The only issue they noted was the phosphates. I was surprised by that number but...

Bleach leaves to much salt in the pool?

Re: Can I maintain FC level with bleach? I'm getting the water tested today so I will have some baseline numbers. I also need a better test kit but dont want the most complicated one. Any recommended ones. I should note that I have had not one problem with my pool except a metal stain that...

Bleach leaves to much salt in the pool?

Re: Can I maintain FC level with bleach? Well I am using about the same amount of chlorine 6% that you are. My last check my CYA was about 25 which I imagine is low. Should I stick some Trichlor pucks in there for a day or two and raise the level?

Bleach leaves to much salt in the pool?

Ok I haven't been here in months but I do have some questions. I was told by the pool store, you know the place of 1000 different opinions, that bleach leaves to much salt in the pool and raises total suspended solids after time. In effect he said that I would have to drain the pool every year...

    Newbie with too high CYA

:goodjob: Thats what my common sense told me but I thought it best to ask anyway. So far all is well. I am waiting on taking on that stain closer to Spring. Then of course I am battling the 1 billion leaves that seem drawn to my pool.

How often do I need to shock the pool if I keep the FC level at my adjusted CYA level? For me thats 6. I have heard never and then every couple of weeks.

Thanks guys. The Vit-C worked to lighten the stain but its to big to treat with this approach. Its the size of a basket ball so I will wait for the FC to drop some on its own and when its low enough I will do the whole pool. I see a few other small spots on the side walls, which seems strange. I...

Its a start. Thanks. My chlorine is up to 4 and I have one more dose to go so it will be fine by tomorrow if that acid doesnt drag it down again. If it does the fix seems simple. Keep dosing it with bleach until its stable at 6. Where do I get a big dose or tablet of Vitamin C? Also I never have...

    Newbie with too high CYA

Thanks I'll try that. I just had a new issue. Since I used that Oxylic (?) acid pouch I had to raise pH substantially to get my Ta above 30 where it had been sinking to over the last week and a half. I used the calculator and put in the recommended amount of sodium bicarb. Worked great. TA went...

That little bag that I bought at the pool store had no effect. This stain has to be copper or iron. It is brown, in a circle swirling pattern and sits right in the middle just below the intake ports at the deep end of the pool. Anyone else have any ideas?

    Newbie with too high CYA

Ok took the pool store a sample to see if my testing is accurate. I was right on about TA. It was at 40. I was close on chlorine. I thought it was 4 and it was 5. CYA is still 50....as it should be since I do not use Tri-Chlor anymore. I had the pH at somewhere between 7.4 and 7.6. It was at...

    Newbie with too high CYA

I..um..eer..well....I did not recalculate the Pool Calculator to take in the fact that my TA was much lower than it had been. Now doing it right, the way you did, it requires a lot less. Well I'm still new so that was a lesson. BTW that is a car. I still own a 1968 coupe that came with a 302...

    Newbie with too high CYA

Alkalinity is now about 40 and seems to be getting lower. We have had some cold weather of late. Of course this is TX so I', talking the 40's in the night and the high 60's in the day. Anyway I recently had a pH rise over several days to 8.2. I calculated it and only put in half. I figured I...

    Newbie with too high CYA

This seems to be the case. Right now the pH is at 7.2 usually this rises quickly but now my TA is 50 so I dont know what to expect. I'm going to let it rise so I can do the absorbic acid test/treatment. I also have to let the chlorine go down as I keep it at 6 due to the CYA being 50.

    Newbie with too high CYA

I'm just curious if there is an opposite negative effect from TA lowering to much. When mine was to high I could not keep pH balanced. Now its down to 70 I wanted to be informed if it dropped lower than that.

What if my TA drops below 70?? It was very high to begin with.

    Newbie with too high CYA

I now have a TA of 80. My pH is holding for the first time at 7.6. Chlorine was at 4 so I'm raising it to 6 due to my CYA being 50. Where should I keep my TA at? Also I have what I believe is metal staining in a spot. It looks almost like a swirl the size of a volleyball. It's brownish and looks...

Sounds good. I will get one off this site. I find the pH color testing somewhat reliable but those shades of yellow are hard for chlorine.
  22. M

    Newbie with too high CYA

I'm just going off the color being a little off hue from the test kit. Everytime it has been that color it reads as 8.5 at the pool store. So I guess an educated guess. I generally err on the side of caution and adjust it as if it was 8.2. I had a reading of 7.2 after adjustment last night but...

    Newbie with too high CYA

Ok I have read the pool school and have went from uninformed and dangerous to just dangerous now. Great info there. I am lowering my pH to 7.2 and have added 55 oz of chlorine to get my FC-2 level to 6. If it drops to 7.2 then I will turn on the waterfall to get the pH up a little. Goal is to...

    Newbie with too high CYA

I simply cannot get my pH to remain at 7.2=7.5. It will go down for a day or two but right back up to 8.5. Alkalinity remains high at about 155. No new rains. Should I try and to get it down to 7.0 instead of adjusting to 7.5?

    Newbie with too high CYA

Got some rain so chlorine is down to 6 but pH went back up to 8.5. Hitting it with 34 oz of Muriatic. I have to get that TA down so I quit bouncing around on pH.

Your correct I am not going to use Trichlor. Thanks and I will be around a lot.

    Newbie with too high CYA

Had the test done. CYA= 50  FC- 8.0 CC- 0 pH 7.8 (after adding muriatic acid to balance.) TA=150 So I checked the Chl/CY chart and it recommended 6.0 for my chlorine. I'm thinking I'll just let it go down on its own. Now Ihave time to read some Pool School and get my stuff together.

    Newbie with too high CYA

It is the Shock version with 10% and no CYA listed. My chlorine tested in at 3 now and pH was high again 8.2 because of the tap water. Using the Pool Calculator I added Muriatic acid. I go Saturday to get the CYA tested and will buy the kit from here this weekend as well. Once I know my CYA...

    Newbie with too high CYA

Drained pool down to 50% and am filling it now. If my math holds up and this draining mirrors the last I should have a CYA level of about45. I dont have a test kit for that so I will have to take it to the pool store to get a reading and look for a kit that will do it. I just dont trust the...

    Newbie with too high CYA

Well I will read as much as I can on the Pool School in the next couple of days. I'm not going to go crazy over to much of the chemistry yet. I am going to drain the pool down about 40 percent more to get the CYA to under or at 50. After that I can really concentrate on the chemistry. BTW i...
