Capacitor replaced, only high speed works now

Hello, forum. Our dual speed motor made a long "trying-to-start" sound (this noise started a while back, but it would eventually start. After doing a little research, we replaced the capacitor. Now, for some reason, only the high speed works. We replaced the capacitor a couple of years ago...

    Cloudy pool, first-timer here

In the process of getting the pool all in balance.....will be adding calcium today. Just had heavy heavy rains. Would I automatically do a full re-test after heavy rains?? Also, I read the post about lowering TA if pH need is too great. Is it normal to have to adjust pH often? seems like we...

Hello all, here are my new, post-SLAM, FC below 10 numbers! FC: 7 pH: 7.8 TA: 100 CH: 70 CYA: 40 I am assuming I should tweak my pH, and then add calcium, and then start my daily testing regimen. Please chime in! Thanks!

Thanks for the chlorine tips. I believe I'll be switching to generic bleach from now on. Ok, I've passed the OCLT!! What's next? Should I do next? Full chemical test? I know my calcium level was too low (70) prior to the SLAM. Am I ready to correct that, or should I wait until FC level is...

Good to know, pooldv, thank you. Ordered more reagent to make sure I'll get through SLAM, so will do OCLT Monday night. Glad to know my OCD tendencies are going to be put to good use!!

Random question.......I've seen many posts discussing the use of standard household 6% bleach vs. my pool store's liquid chlorine at 12.5%. I also see the TFP for beginners suggests using the 6%. Is there a downside to using the pool store's jugs? Is it just a cost issue?

Elephant in the room, ah yes. Yes, I believe we must have overused the "pucks" in our four years with this pool. That's my assumption, anyway. Just bought a brand new giant container of them RIGHT before I got into the forum, lucky me! I assume I am probably never to use them again, or only...

    Cloudy pool, first-timer here

Ok, I have been SLAM'ing away. Pool started looking significantly clearer yesterday morning. I am stoked! Just took apart our Polaris 360 and it had algae, so we're cleaning that up. I've kept pool at shock level consistently (tested it once at 14.5 - should be at 16, so I dropped a teeny...

    Cloudy pool, first-timer here

I got up this morning and tested my pH and it was about 7.3 in my estimation, so I went ahead and added the chlorine to start the SLAM test. That being said, my FC level was the same as last night, so I seem to have passed the OCLT test. The water looks much better than before the two refills...

    Cloudy pool, first-timer here

Just thinking out loud........so pool was cloudy, but I'm not sure what was causing it. If my numbers seem good now, and I have NO combined chlorine, 4 ppm free chlorine, and no verified algae bloom, do I still SLAM? Shall I assume the cloudiness was caused by algae? Is SLAMing ok if the...

    Cloudy pool, first-timer here

OK! Second drain refill complete!! Here are my test results: FC: 4 CC: 0 pH: 8.0 (needed two drops to lower to approx 7.4) TA: 120 Calcium: 70 CYA: 40!!!! (doing cartwheels right now...) So, I am assuming I should add my muriatic acid now to regular pH. We have approximately...

Finished water exchange - CYA still at 90, which is better, but not good enough. Will do it again and update then. Ugh. Thought we took enough out, but I guess not.

Hello, all, just checking in with my (slow) progress. We have drained about half the pool water. I did a CYA test before this (with 1/2 tap water and 1/2 pool water) and estimated CYA to be about 140...I see the pool calculator says to drain 64% of the pool, so we will make a guesstimate to...

Thank you very much for the prompt and complete replies. I guess my new goal this year will be pool school! We are preparing for a partial water exchange now, and will keep you posted. Hopefully 1/3 water exchange will do it, yes? Or should we aim for higher if we want to do this in one...

    Cloudy pool, first-timer here

Hello, all. Just received and used my first K-2006 test kit. I'll try to keep this short and sweet. Had the pool (constructed sometime in the 90's, perhaps?) 5 years now, a few algae problems here and there, otherwise no real issues. Last few months pool has become very cloudy. Took sample...
