How the heck do I connect a 2" backwash hose to a 2" pvc backwash hose???

The Gorilla hose is reinforced with fiber, so it doesn't stretch. At all.

Vacation and pools - you guys are awesome!

As Jim Marshall said, this may be the one time to use pucks in a floater. We were gone for six days in June and we have no one within 30 miles that we could ask to add bleach. I pushed my FC to 15 (about double my norm) and put four pucks in a floater and ran the pump for about eight hours per...

    What's growing on my hose?

Think I have figured this out. I spent some time looking at the growth and it appeared to be the dots are held in a gelatinous substance. I surmised they were some sort of eggs. Then today, while lying on a float, I watched a dragonfly deposit her eggs on the hose. So I solved the mystery, but...

    What's growing on my hose?

Sorry to be so long in reply; I've been out of town. It is on the outside of the hose to my Polaris pool vacuum. I'd never heard of artillery fungus until you mentioned it. Can it grow on a hose submerged in chlorinated water? If that's what it is, how do I get rid of it? Does it pose any danger...

    What's growing on my hose?

I don't have a sand filter; I have a DE grid filter. I don't think it's sand because it doesn't feel gritty like sand (or even dirt). Thanks for the suggestion, tho.

    What's growing on my hose?

There seems to be a problem with the last picture. Trying again. Thanks.

Here's a better picture, zoomed in on the growth.

    What's growing on my hose?

I don't think it's dirt. It appears as groups of uniform brown dots that seem to grow in size (the groups grow in size, the individual dots stay the same). I'll try to post a better picture. It comes off the hose by rubbing or lightly brushing it. Thanks!

    What's growing on my hose?

Can anyone tell me what's growing on my Polaris hose? I've been maintaining the proper FC level and had .5 overnight chlorine loss. I just noticed this yesterday, but don't see it growing on other obvious surfaces (inside the skimmer, etc.). Is it time for a slam? Thanks.

    Timer doesn't turn

I have an Intermatic PF1102T timer which is 11 years old. Beginning several months ago, it randomly would stop turning. If I spun the dial a revolution or two, it would begin turning again. Now it has stopped turning completely. It still operates the pump if I manually turn it to a place on the...

    Help with extremely high cya

Will do. Once the FC gets to the proper range, should I check it daily and add chlorine every evening, as necessary? What should I expect my daily FC loss to be? Should I be on the lookout for any red flags? Thanks, again. I love this site. Wish I'd found it years ago. I'm a true convert, no...

    Help with extremely high cya

Okay, it's been a bit of an ordeal, but I'm finally through my (liquid chlorine) SLAM. After about 6 or 7 days of the SLAM, my pump motor blew. It took a couple of days to get the motor fixed and I started back into the SLAM. After another 3 days, after a routine backwash, my filter started...

    DE in pool

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I always turn off the pump before moving the valve. Unfortunately, I don't have a manual vacuum. Thanks again.

    DE in pool

I backwashed my filter on Monday. When I added the DE slurry, I noticed the DE blowing into the pool through the jets. Unfortunately I had added a few pounds before I noticed it happening. When I looked at the filter, the pipes were vibrating quite a bit. I turned off the filter, switched to...

    Help with extremely high cya

Thanks for the responses. I scrubbed it clean with bleach on Thursday and it was beginning to show up again on Saturday. No one has been in the pool in over a week. Could it still be the type of residue you're describing, April's Zoo? I'll pick up a scum ball on my next trip to the store. I'm...

    Help with extremely high cya

I brought my FC up to 24 on Monday, but for Monday and Tuesday could only add bleach twice a day. Beginning Wednesday, I started the full SLAM process, checking the FC and adding bleach hourly, as much as possible, keeping the FC at 24. Have been maintaining that routine since then. Yesterday I...

    Help with extremely high cya

As usual, thanks for the quick and informative responses. I've played with the Poolmath calculator, so I can see how much bleach I'll need to start the SLAM. I don't know how much bleach I might need to maintain the shock level for the necessary time (I know this would only be a best guess). I...

    Help with extremely high cya

Thanks to all. I'm going to raise the FC but, due to work, probably can't start the SLAM until Wednesday. I'll stock up on bleach. I've never used bleach for chlorination. Any guesstimate as to how much I'll need for the SLAM?

    Help with extremely high cya

So far... I drained what I thought was about 50% but now I think was closer to 40. CYA was still off the chart. Drained about 30%, still well above 100. Took out another 30% yesterday and FINALLY was able to get a reading of about 90. Drained another 35% today and I am refilling it tonight. I...

    Help with extremely high cya

I conducted the 'extended' cya test and the reading was just below the 100 mark on the tube, so it looks like my cya is above 200, maybe above 225. Ugh. Tomorrow I'll drain 50% of the water and refill. According to the calculator, that won't be nearly enough. I'll post again after the first...

    Help with extremely high cya

Thanks, I didn't know about the extended test instructions. I'll try that tomorrow. My pool is irregular in shape, 8' in the deep end, 3' in the shallow. The deep, shallow, and slope are about equal in area. If I leave about a foot in the shallow end, will that be about 50%? BTW, I don't think...

    Help with extremely high cya

I finally got tired of relying on the guys at the pool store advising me on how to treat my pool. I've been fighting to keep FC levels up for two years and they never told me my cya levels were off the charts and a cause of my problems. They just kept selling me stabilized chlorine. I've been...
