    DE in pool water

I'm sure this topic has been covered in the past, but I can't seem to find it (the search words are too common :? ) After backwashing a bunch of extra water from our pool, I went to put in some more DE. I've never had any problems with DE getting back into the pool water, but today the water...

    Broken parts

So I wanted to get a head start on getting our pool ready for the summer - We live in Texas, and it will be warm before you know it. I went outside to check on the pump, and to my dismay, I found my little glass backwash viewer broken. I guess 16 degree weather will do that  I would...

    Tile popped off

One of the tiles in our pool popped off. It's right at the water line. What kind of stuff do I use to put it back in place, and make sure it doesn't fall off again? And where can you buy it? [attachment=2:2k3x6vip]IMG_3384R.jpg[/attachment:2k3x6vip] It looks like the previous owners have...

    Downsides of high FC

What, if any, are the downsides of keeping a high FC? For example, with my CYA, the pool calculator suggest a FC range between 4.0-8.0. Would there be any disadvantages to bringing it up to 10 or 11 at night? That way, when my pool uses 3ppm, it will go down to 7 or 8 by the following night. I...

    Losing 4ppm FC a day

We have been losing 4ppm of Chlorine a day. That seems way too high to me. I test for CC every time, and it's either 0 or 0.5. Never higher than that. Is there still a chance that I might need to shock? The pool has been used about 3 hours a day by me and my 3 kids. They never pee in the pool...

    Green in little glass "jar"

My pool looks great, and all my test levels are great. However, the little glass "jar" that is connected to the backwash gets dark green fairly quickly. I backwashed a week ago, and just added CYA a few days ago, so I can't backwash again for a few days. Why does that little glass jar get green...

    Lights and bugs

We live out in the country. The other night, I went swimming after dark for the first time. It took all but 30 seconds after I turned on the light for all the bugs to bomb-dive my pool. On TV pools never have millions of bugs in them! So besides installing nettings all around my pool...

    Totally converted to BBB

I like the BBB method. But I wasn't ready to jump in all the way yet. I needed to make my CYA higher, and had some pucks laying around, so I thought, why not use those? I used them for about 2 weeks. It messed everything up! I have been lowering my TA, but with the pucks, the Ph keeps dropping...

    Right amount of CYA

We recently refilled our pool, and after reading all over the forum, I still don't know the ideal level of CYA I should have. We live in Texas, and the pool has direct sunlight all day. I don't have a SWG, so the pool calculator suggests 30-50. However, since we do have direct sunlight, does...

What kind of stains? - with pictures

We are kind of new to the whole pool thing, and I have a question about some staining on my plaster pool. We refilled our pool a few weeks ago, and I did notice some staining before we drained it, but the water was always so dirty and green that it was hard to tell what really was going on...

    CC keeps coming back

About a week ago, I had about 0.5 of CC. I shocked the pool to 11 ppm, tested the next morning, and the CC was gone. However, about 4 days later the CC is back up to 0.5 (even though the FC never went below 2.5) I was wondering if this is normal, and what to do to prevent it. I would hate to...

    Polaris 360

We inherited a Polaris 360 pool sweep. When we first got it, it worked great. Some time last year however, it stopped working right. When I hook it up to the wall, and hold it loosly in my hands, the wheels spin. However, as soon as there's any traction on the wheels (like my hands, or the pool...

Frustrated balancing pool - please help!

I just received my new TF100 test kit in the mail. Here are my readings: FC 1.0 CC 0.5 TA 330 CH 310 CYA ,20 (disappeared at top level of CYA tube) PH 7.8 (with basic test kit) I was disappointed that TF100 didn't come with a good Ph test, and that I just had to use the basic test for that...

    Avatar?

I have tried to upload a new avatar, but without success. I saw that the picture has to be no larger than 120x120, but even at those dimension the size is bigger than 9K. Any ideas on how to make a small enough image, so I can upload a picture? Thanks

Shocking before or after heavy use?

We are having a bunch of swimmers over later today. My FC is currently at around 2.0. I was thinking about putting the FC up to 5.0, so there will be enough chlorine for the heavy use. My question is, whether it's better to add the cholorine before the party, or after. Also, is 5.0 enough, or...

    Adding Borates

I read through the whole Borates how and why post, but still have a concern. My TA has been very high since we refilled our pool (CYA was at 150ppm), so I have been working on lowering the TA with MA. I will wait to add borates until I have my TA at the right levels. All the research I have...
