Priming programs runs every day at 12 am

I have confirmed my Calimar 3hp VS pump runs the priming program at 12:00 am. My priming program is set for 3000 rpm and 2 minutes. That speed isn't programmed anywher else, or that length of time. I had a suspicion something odd was going based on comments from the neighbor and my wife. Last...

Unexpected results from adding boric acid

This morning I added boric acid and cyuranic acid to the pool. The readings before were FC: 6, pH: 7.5, TA: 90, CYA: 40. I added 15 lbs of boric acid duda diesel and 37 oz of dry stabilizer. Aftern5 hours the pH was 7.2, TA was 100. I didn't expect those to change. Was that unrealistic?

Signatures in mobile version of website?

I haven't been able to figure out how to read a members signature in the mobile version of TFP. What am I missing?

    When can i add borate?

I have been working to get my TA down again after I drained off about 45% to lower CH. When am I good to add the borate? I understand it will tend to make adjustments to pH a bit slower but what about TA? I've determined my TA is still 80 if I go by the recommendation to count the drops until...

How do I find my bonding connection?

The only thing I don't have done with my new pump is connect the bonding lug. I have never found anything that looks like a grounding connection to the pool. What should I be looking for?

New diverter valve cracking at thread socket

I have a CMP diverter valve that I installed a couple of months ago. While hunting an intermittent air leak I found a crack. I seem to remember a thread or something on repairing these sort of valves. I don't believe they were overtightened when I reassembled after install, and it certainly...

Alkalinity drop from 90 to 50 overnight?

Yesterday I added MA to continue bring down my TA. I tested pH of 7.6 and TA of 100. I added 25 oz. MA. Today I tested to follow up on my SLAM and look at the TA and it was 50. Ran the test again because it change so quick making sure I counted the drops. Can the total alkalinity change that...

Detecting if a pump is actually running?

I don't know about you, but Murphy and his laws are never far from me. If it can go wrong, it likely will. In my case I have moved from a single speed pump to a VSP. Previously the SWG was wired to the timer with the pump so that it could never get power without the pump getting power. The VSP...

    Cleaning up my SWG

I'm doing maintenance on my plumbing so I had the SWG out of the system and it was a mess. I didn't get a before picture, but the pic below shows a small part of what came out of it. The chunks were plentiful, but came loose with vinegar and a long zip tie as an agitator, and water jet from a...

    Pump is dead, again

I have a 1 HP Hayward Super Pump 700 that is unreliable. Sometimes just buzzes, other times starts in reverse, and occasionally starts normally. The pump is a bit over 5 years old and had a similar problem about 18 months ago. Pump tech at Leslies replaced the capacitors on the pump and it was...

Question about three port diverter valves

Does the center port on a diverter valve always have to be the "inlet" open port? Can a valve be reconfigured to have another port be the "inlet"?

New Timer(s) for Our Old Pool

I found a WiFi enabled outdoor timer with two independent circuits, and it runs on 240vac so I don't have to have a neutral in the box anymore. I got the Suraielec WiFi Pool Timer and installed it today replacing the old big wheel Intermatic switch. I wired it so the relay feeding the SWG isn't...

    Thank You TFP!

The old pool was a big hit over the 4th of July celebrations. Family was in town with grandkids and we all had a blast. Thank you for your guidance and patience putting up with newbies like me with all our bad habits and baloney theories of pool maintenance. I've still got problems, but worrying...

Old Pool Ladder just won't let go!

Every decade or so I take another run at pulling the pool ladder. After vacuuming a lot of debris in the mounting holes I found what looks like images I've seen before but the bolts are missing. The ladder won't budge in any direction and it never has in our 31 years with the pool. Any suggestions?

    Does this look right?

My one month old RJ45+ SWG cell looks pretty ragged to me. It is working, currently running at 60%, and gaining .5 FC each day. I'm adjusting the setting down every few days to find the happy spot. Any suggestions? The pool is clear. FC = 9.5 CC = 0.5 pH = 7.7 TA = 90 CH = 550 CYA = 70 Salt =...

My first results with TF-Pro Salt

These are the readings from this evening after I got my new TF-Pro Salt test kit, including the CH and CYA which were pool store guesstimates prior to this. I ran the tests multiple times and got the same results. The salt test was the hardest for me to discriminate when it got the right color...

A watched mailbox never holds the TF-PRO I've ordered

I have confirmed a corollary to the old adage "a watched pot never boils". I've order the kit, I know I need the critical info it will tell me about my pool, I know there is so much support here at TFP if I have all the relevant data, yet it still isn't in the mailbox. I'm going to take this as...

    Using aeration to raise pH?

I've had PoolMath recommending aeration to raise the pH after lowering TA a couple of times. I don't have a return in the pool I can tap into to make a spray wand like I've seen in some posts. Would a garden hose tapped off the main return line supply enough to water for a spray across the pool...

    Newbie with SLAM questions

I started the SLAM this morning and I haven't yet managed to get it up to the FC of 24 I am aiming for. But first the before SLAM measurements. FC = 2.5 CC = 1.5 CYA = presumed to be about 60, tested by the pool store as 22 twice, then added 1 gallon of liquid stabilizer per PoolMath. My CYA...

    Thanks for the good info!

I've had an inground pool for over 18 years that I got with the house. I have had the occasional issue with ignoring the pool and having to clean up a green mess, and generally it has been a positive experience, but then 2024 rolled around. In early January I was told by the local pool shop...
