    Degreaser at opening ?

Is there any point in using a degreaser when opening the pool, to help with gunk removal from the vinyl?

A couple of freezing nights coming up - keep the pool running or drain?

I try to close my pool as late as possible in the season to make its reopening easier by having cleaner water in the spring. It seems everyone around here (Québec city) has already closed its pool in the last few weekends, which seems premature since we got 20c today and will get a couple of...

Creating my own test kit with Taylor reagents

Hi, I'm in Canada so good test kits are hard to find and expensive. I've found the k-2600 in a couple of places, but I realize the only test in it I really, really need is the FAS-DPD test to get accurate high chlorine readings. Other tests... well my cheaper test kit seems to be good enough...

How long can you stay at shock level before it eats away you liner, pump and heater?

Title says it all.... With a normal Ph, using liquid chlorine on a vinyl pool, how long could I stay at shock level (considering the cya / chlorine ratio, so let's say 20ppm for 50 CYA) before it starts to shorten the lifespan of equipment? I can't imagine it's without any effect on the liner...

    Algae or dirt?

I have little pile up coming back almost every two days. Zoomed 5x from surface of my above ground pool. The bottom of my pool is pretty uneven so they tend to accumulate pretty much always in the same spot - at the bottom along the wall where my return is located and near the opposite wall...

    What to do before closing

So I'll need to close my pool this weekend as we will get to freezing temps after that. My current measures are about FC: about 6-8 CYA: 50 ALK: 50 PH: 7.8 to 8.0 (whatever I do to lower it, it creeps back up there). So here are my questions 1) Do I need to slam before closing? If so, I'm...

Effects of "high" chlorine on equipment

I've switched to liquid chlorine this summer and now try to keep a FC level much higher than the 1-3 I used to, in order to have sufficient sanitation for my level of cya. Currently at 45ppm of cya, keeping chlorine around 5. I was wondering if, in the long run, this will have any ill effect on...

    Chemical Storage

Ok, so what exactly do I need to keep out of my garage to keep my stuff from rusting? I'll take out my acid in a container outside. Can I keep the jugs of liquid chlorine inside? What about my alk+ product and calcium increaser? I had some leftover stabilized pucks I always kept outside.

    Getting combined chlorine levels down

My latest tests show a spread of around 0.5 pp between my FC and Total Chlorine. Water doesn't smell and looks good. In the past, I've used Non-Chlorinated Shock Treatment (like this one Oxy Non-Chlorinated Shock Treatment 500 g) to get rid of CC and bring FC and TC levels back inline. The...

Copper went from 0 to 0.4 ppm in 2 weeks???

Never had a prior issue with copper and various pool store tests, from various stores, showed results of 0 all summer long. Last test was 12 days ago. In the meantime, I switched to liquid chlorine and had some issues maintaining a proper Ph because my TA was around 100,which worked well with...

Ph keeps rising, other parameters okay

Above ground vinyl liner pool. Tested at the pool store. Alkalinity around 95 Calcium at 200 Cya at 40 I use a variable amount of liquid chlorine daily to keep its level at 3-4, depending on sun, heat and usage. Somehow, my Ph keeps rising to around 8. I've been adding Ph- almost daily...

Cavitation caused by poor intake design?

I've got a new 1.5 hp 2-speed Carvin pump for my above ground pool which is making a lot of noise when running at the highest setting. It sounds like gravel in the pump, but there is absolutely no air in the strainer or anywhere before or after the pump (don't see any bubbles coming out in the...
