2nd backup pump in parallel with 1st. Do I need a 3 port on both inlet and outlet?

I have a 2nd pump plumbed in parallel with the 1st. The 2nd pump is smaller than the 1st. I only use 1 at a time, and I manually switch both 3 port valves to block off inlet and outlet of the pump not in use. My question is, If I want to automate the switching between the 2 pumps, do I need an...

Moving pump and filter below water level. What valve arrangement? How to cut new return into vinyl?

I have a 32,000l vinyl pool in the UK. It is 12ft x 24ft x 4ft. It is built on sloping ground, so one end is in ground, and the other is above ground with a retaining wall. There is a 6ft wide patio deck all the way around the pool. The pump and filter are 1ft above water level on the uphill...

Upgrade filter - how to change inlet and outlet pipe spacing?

I'm upgrading my 16" side mount Lacron filter to a 24" side mount. The new (to me) filter does not have a multiport valve with it so I am planning to re-use my existing one. The 24" filter has the inlet and outlet 3" further apart than the 16" That means I need to extend the filter outlet drop...

repair/replace perished pipe connecting solar manifold

I have a Solarmatt black hose pipe solar heating system which uses clear flexible 1.5" pipe and jubilee clips to connect the manifolds and to the pool plumbing. The company seems to no longer be trading. The system is now about 4 years old, and the 1.5" flexible pipes have started to leak even...

    11% Chlorine + brass corrosion

I installed a DIY peristaltic pump, and have had problems finding stainless or plastic fittings that wouldn't corrode. In the mean time I'm using these fittings (6mm to 4mm adaptors). They look as though they are made from brass, and are corroding inside, as expected...

    What stain is this?

I've noticed a few stains on the floor of the liner. I rubbed a vitamin c tablet on one of them, and pic 1 (taken under water) shows what it looked like afterwards. I had to rub quite hard for a few minutes for the stain to go. I am not sure if it was metal or not...

Considering DIY peristaltic pump, where to inject?

I switched from pucks to 11% bleach 2 weeks ago, and so far so good. Now I'd like to automate the injection of chlorine. Ebay has peristaltic pumps for < £30 and the control and timing of them won't be a problem. I think I need to inject the chlorine after the pool pump, filter, and heater...

    1st results - UK

We've had the pool (came with the house) for 18 months. Season here is late May until sometime in September. The pool is half drained over winter. It then re-fills up rainwater over the winter and may need a further several inches emptying during the winter. Just got a test kit, having used...

Certikin light wiring corrosion replace cable?-UK

I opened up the recessed connection box just to see what was in it. We have been in the house for 1.5 years, and the pool is 15 years old I believe. The light was working fine although we have not used it much, and only for < 30 mins at a time. Lucky I did as the connection block looked like...
