    Help me understand my valves

    I have these valves on all my lines. This one is for the return line. The side labeled #1 is water line from the pump. #3 is the line to the Pool water return (the eyeball). What are the different Positions used for?

    This might be a stupid question. But I'll ask anyways ;) (Nature2)

    So my new house / pool has Nature2 system. From reading the forums it sounds like a waste of $$$ to replace the cartridges. So I don't plan to use ti any more. Can I just open it up and pull the cartridge in it out, put the housing back together and run like that?
