We're doing this again! Orlando OB Take 2 -PLASTERED! 6/1

We have reached the point in our build where nothing is happening... some minor updates; - I installed new ceiling fans on our covered patio this weekend, look great and move some air. Anyone have suggestions for the ceiling here? Previous owner put it up, but never stained or anything, I am...

    Question about Beach Entry

Haha, you'll be way too stressed to keep your wife in the dark. But, it's totally worth it to owner-build. It's stressful, but worth it... Just tell your wife that it actually will get done faster if you do it yourself. It's easy to say right now that it's ok if it takes x amount of time, we're...

Water Feature and SPA JET Plumbing Question

Gotcha, those look nice. I couldn't readily find the allowable flow rate. For your pool, you're going to be pulling from your main drain and skimmer most likely, so that should be fine. For the features, just make sure the maximum flow rate through the drain isn't less than you need for your...

    Question about Beach Entry

This make a lot of sense to me... I will also tell you that I too thought about this for my dog, the labrador who doesn't like the water. I have taken him to the beach and to a park with a lake, and he IS more comfortable going in if it's a gradual entry. 2 points to that though... I used to...

Water Feature and SPA JET Plumbing Question

I'm no expert, but that seems like an odd setup. Usually with the round main drains, you have them plumbed together to one pump so that if a kid gets sucked into one of them, they do not get stuck because the other one relieves the vacuum. There are pumps that have features built in to avoid...

    Question about Beach Entry

Can't talk about beach entry, but as far as going owner build, if you feel comfortable managing projects, there is no great reason not to do it as long as you can find subs. I am on my second. Had some trouble getting layout-dig-steel and gunite subs lined up. I basically had 1 option for each...

Pebble tech Vs cl industries Vs wet edge

PT and WE have "certified installers"... In reality, this is likely any installer that pays a licensing fee to the company and meets some minimum qualifications... however, there is some comfort in feeling like if there is an issue, the installer may be more proactive because they could lose...

We're doing this again! Orlando OB Take 2 -PLASTERED! 6/1

Yep, we looked at Paradise Grills, weren't impressed with the quality vs the price. Then started designing my own setup which would have been significantly cheaper, but still crazy expensive. Saw these tiki bars and couldn't pass it up for the price. I am going pretty cheap on the grill for now...

We're doing this again! Orlando OB Take 2 -PLASTERED! 6/1

As I have come to expect, dirt is not getting moved tomorrow. The guy has a sick kid, which resonates with me as one of my twins is sick today as well, I am sure the other will have it by the weekend, can't wait! So, instead of me working on irrigation this weekend, I'll be putting up some fans...

New Pool Build in FL - Looking for help/advice

I am so sorry you're going through this. I would say get an attorney quick, find someone who will work on contingency fee and file a suit ASAP. Even if you change lawyers later, you need to get something on the books if they are moving assets and closing the business. Are they an LLC, or a...

We're doing this again! Orlando OB Take 2 -PLASTERED! 6/1

Cool, mine come in 2 thickness levels, mine are the thick ones. The Liberty is all 1 size I think, mine are 9x9, 9x12, and 9x15. I was concerned about having enough material for my coping as the guys were going on mine, my installer said it's like an 8-week delay if they needed more. Thankfully...

Yep, that's what they are, I love them. We did the Traverstone series, they were the largest format they had. Glad yours arrived. Ours were a week late and my paver guy didn't even get notice that they weren't being delivered on the original date. Hope yours are on the schedule for install soon!

Haha, It is interesting. They have a nice bar setup in there from the pics I have seen, I have wondered if it used to be larger and then they built the garage/bar and shortened it. It's interesting because that house used to be about 300 yards away on the lake across the street from my house...

Just realized my crapola pool has no coping? Should I just bulldose this thing already? :P

I think in Orlando, a replaster should be less... I am doing a new pool, but had a pebble quote for $6500. Of course, that doesn't include chip out and cleanup, but that was also pebble... I suspect you can get it done in the $7k range with a simple plaster or quartz finish. I did a quartz...

We're doing this again! Orlando OB Take 2 -PLASTERED! 6/1

Update! My pavers are finishing up today! Below are some pics from yesterday's progress. Dirt should be moved on Friday, the screen is set to be installed by 5/21, and water the following week if all goes well! There were some issues yesterday with the screen and some details related to that...

Sorry, I know it's frustrating. It's actually one of the reasons I like to do owner-build stuff. At least I have some control, though still not nearly as much as I would like. Below is my timeline. My electrical is not done. He has done the big stuff I think, but still needs to pull the lights...

New FL Build - 5 Years Almost done planning

Awesome, looks much better, glad they redid it without too much of a fight. I don't think there is anything such as "perfect" in the construction industry in Florida these days. We did a major house reno before moving in and it was a constant battle and having to stay on top of the contractors...

Florida Build started 11/24/2020 - lots of pics

Hey, look at the dirt thing as a positive... if you passed inspection, the contractor could stick you with it, now it has to get gone for inspection purposes. Love your pool, congrats on getting to the finish line!

New FL Build - 5 Years Almost done planning

Just to be clear, my 45 degree angle line is for reference, the only cuts I would make are to the green pieces hanging off of the bottom of the sketch. Those would be straight cuts making the 1x1 tiles 1x0.5. No 45s and small corners to deal with.
