    Help with Quad DE

Picked up the TF-100 XL today right from the source! Great folks. Super helpful. Re-ran all the tests and got more accurate results - some of which are fairly pleasing! Here we go: FC 6.5 CC 0.0 pH (using the Taylor kit as the TF-100 doesn't have it) 7.8 CH 300 TA 90 CYA 75 So the CYA is a...

    Help with Quad DE

Fair point indeed, and I don't mind cleaning after a party. But when the others said "that shouldn't be happening" I figured I had a problem other than high bather load so that's why we're going down this road that most of you are probably sick of hearing about but is new to me and I'm greatly...

    Help with Quad DE

I'm not disputing any of this. But I feel like something is out of control and so far the posts here are helping me understand more than I have ever known about before such as the relationship between CYA and FC (new to me) and other stuff. I think you may have mis-read something above about...

    Help with Quad DE

Thanks, Tim. I will call first thing in the morning. Maybe with all of your help I will actually figure out how to get my pool more stable so I don't have constantly changing TA and pH (or at least less frequent). I just found all the pool school stuff so I'll read all I can tonight. Do you...

    Help with Quad DE

Grr, okay. Which of the two kits would you suggest? I'll pick one up I guess. While I wait for the kit, any advice for acid cleaning my filter cartridges and shocking the pool? Should I use the SLAM? Will I have enough time before the July 4 party?

    Help with Quad DE

Went to the store - bought lots of bleach. Container says "yields 7.86% chlorine" which I assume is what to plug into the calculator? What do you mean by "two scoops of powder"? My FC test is using the small sample tube with 5 drops each of R-0001 and R-0002. Went out to check Cl then add...

    Help with Quad DE

Duh, I see now. So for OCLT should I be raising the level to 5.0 at sundown to do the test? And in the morning, does any sun up matter or only direct sun on the pool itself? I don't get any sun on the pool til later in the day. It's mostly shaded.

    Help with Quad DE

Jim, I missed the joke! Do share... Jon, thank you for the info. I will search what SLAM is and yes I can drain and refill if necessary. I have a party on July 4 so I will want it looking good for that but given all the issues maybe after that I will go to town on it and start fresh. I think...

    Help with Quad DE

Re: Guts of QuadDE Filter Geez, I didn't know that. I guess I only have a basic handle on the main chemical elements and how they interplay, but did not know about the relationship of CYA to FC. Learn something every day. I use a test kit I have at home (Taylor DPD) for my testing. Ok, but...

    Help with Quad DE

Re: Guts of QuadDE Filter As of this second here are the numbers. I don't know how relevant they are because this phenomena of the filter clogging up really quickly after high bather load has been going on for a while. It also looks like I may not have solved the salt cell issue after all. :(...

    Help with Quad DE

Re: Guts of QuadDE Filter Hi everyone, thanks for the responses! I have been having issues with my salt cell and Cl levels. Has hit zero a few times with tiny algae blooms beginning in some areas. I'm talking 1mm at most and only on the tanning shelf. I believe I have those licked (new cell...

    Help with Quad DE

I split this off from HERE so that the other thread is not cluttered. jblizzle Hey everyone, fairly new to TFP but long time reader. Good thread on Quad DE. I've had mine since 2010 but am struggling with something that I figured you could advise me on. My pool generally runs fine. I have...

1st time IGP owner - construction photos - Raleigh, NC

There have been a few threads lately about pool builders and pools in general, so I thought I'd add my pics to the database of knowledge here. The builder is Pool Professionals and so far they have done magnificent work. The pool is a bit bigger in the ground than it looked like it would be on...

Just signed contract - suggestions on which pump is best?

Ok, I'll check that out. I liked the VF system's automatic adjustment based on pressure, as I am a gizmo kind of guy, but if the price is a lot more I can stick with the VS. For a few hundred bucks up front, I might just do the VF anyway. What kind of service does the ozone require? I...

Just signed contract - suggestions on which pump is best?

We spoke to just about every company in the phone book. Many were only doing vinyl liner which we didn't want. We originally wanted fiberglass and got some quotes from various companies, but I didn't feel comfortable with their reps and only really liked 2 out of the 10+ we talked to, and that...

Just signed contract - suggestions on which pump is best?

Great feedback so far, everyone! I actually found and read through the FSEC website and found the panel ratings - quite helpful. The difference between the AquaSol that my neighbor is using and the highest BTU/sq ft panel listed is only 6.3%. We don't have much wind in the warmer months so I...

Just signed contract - suggestions on which pump is best?

While we're at it, I have read a bunch of the stuff on this forum regarding solar panels....I think what I have seen is that Fafco makes the "best" panels, but for your standard, run of the mill black plastic panels, I can't see how any other brand would really be "worse" - black plastic is...

Just signed contract - suggestions on which pump is best?

Thanks, Mark. I will definitely investigate the Intelliflo. Will the SunTouch controller automatically adjust the speed or is it something that is "fixed" once set up? I was hoping for an "on the fly" adjustment done by the controller when the demand goes up or down.

Just signed contract - suggestions on which pump is best?

Hi all: I'm new here, referred by another member. Just signed a contract with a top notch local contractor here in Raleigh and should be getting started shortly. A summary of what we're doing: In ground, roughly 20,000 gallon, "sports bottom" pool - roughly 39x22 with tanning shelf and...
