    Need an overlap liner

It will be hard to find a taller than 52 liner. A 52 overlap will have an actual wall height of 54+ though.

Would this bother you? (pump pictures)

If your existing plumbing was painted almond then it seems appropriate that they'd assume you want the new to match. Overspray is a mistake but not that big of a deal in the long run. Bills can be due upon receipt and have a pay by date that's later than that, it's not a contradiction. Idk...

New to the forum... Hello and pump size question

As long as it's two speed should be fine, lower efficiency is much more tolerable when you have a low speed to run on for every day filtration.

    Bottom Rail question

As long as the pool wall is in the track I wouldn't mess with it. They can't go anywhere. In my understanding of the physics involved those connections are really only a placeholder for assembly and once it's filled it's the wall holding itself down in the track and the track pieces holding the...

New to the forum... Hello and pump size question

Hey @Novak77 Just thought I'd fill you in on my experience. After a year with a 1HP Hayward Powerflo Matrix I am going to be replacing it for 1. As a single speed pump being overpowered for long run times and 2. For being an inefficient "resistance start, induction run" type motor (which as as...

Questions about DE for sand filter

Prop 65 has gone too far in some areas, but I don't think DE powder is one of them. It is a legitimate inhalation risk and deserves to bear a warning as such. It's not like powdered asbestos bad but should treated the same as any other fine silica such as concrete mix dust, etc. ...that and I...

Is a above ground pool possible on a gravel/stone driveway?

Sure for a soft side steel frame pool you can do basically whatever you want as long it's not more than a couple inches off level across 12ft. You could put it straight on gravel but it will be uncomfortable to feet, and the pokey bits will be more likely to wear through the liner (from stuff...

    Doheny's Energy Efficient Above Ground Pool Pump - 1 HP / 5.6 Amps, .75 HP / 5.3 Amps

I am so frustrated with the lack of amperage info available for pumps of all varieties and all manufacturers. How could this possibly not be part of the standard listed specs. I am reduced to searching for a picture that happens to capture the motor rating plate clear enough. Edit: Finally...

    Doheny's Energy Efficient Above Ground Pool Pump - 1 HP / 5.6 Amps, .75 HP / 5.3 Amps

Yeah idk what's going on with the CA Title 20 rules. It seems more hung up on manufacturers getting their pumps listed by the state rather than their actual performance compliance with the standard. I sort of thought I was getting away with something when I built my AGP last year and received...

    Doheny's Energy Efficient Above Ground Pool Pump - 1 HP / 5.6 Amps, .75 HP / 5.3 Amps

@cowboycasey I'm trying real hard not to be the luddite who remains "skeptical" of VS pumps, but I still can't help but imagine that say that pump might run my system on solar circulate at ~450 watts, compared to the 3/4hp Harris pump at ~650 watts, so that's a $400 premium for $75 per year...

    Doheny's Energy Efficient Above Ground Pool Pump - 1 HP / 5.6 Amps, .75 HP / 5.3 Amps

Agreed unfortunately Doheny's and Harris don't seem to have a detailed performance curve for this pump. There are for Powerflo Matrix and Optiflo, but the efficiency of them is still abysmal.

Replacing single speed pump with dual or variable speed

Is this true? My reading of the DOE regs was that only single speed pumps 1HP or greater will be barred and that 2-speed pumps will be compliant. Not that I would recommend them over a VS either way.

    Doheny's Energy Efficient Above Ground Pool Pump - 1 HP / 5.6 Amps, .75 HP / 5.3 Amps

I am looking to reduce the electrical consumption of my above ground pool. It is 18ft round, 7700 gals, 40 sq ft DE filter. Electrical supply is 115v only. Currently I have a 1HP 115v Hayward Powerflo Matrix, rated at 12 amps and pulls about that, plus or minus a few amps depending on the load...

    Solar pool heater?

Yeah our PG&E rates are painful. Check out the time of use plans if you're getting much into tier 3 usage. Although maybe wait to see about PV, I know the tiered plan is advantageous for PV billing.

    leaky connection to solar heater

I also needed to get to 12ft this year for my solar and am doing so by connecting two of those Hayward hoses together, but idk if there's a simpler solution than that.

    Frreze Damage to Pool Plaster

I saw this happened to someone in the freeze on reddit too. Afaik this is not common for plaster pools closed in advance of winter with plaster exposed. It seems to be a special case where if plaster is exposed just before freezing and then freezes while it's still wet/saturated.

    Solar pool heater?

Fafco would be the main brand in CA, made in CA. If you happen to be in Santa Clara you're in luck, the city will install them and add it to your water bill. Otherwise there are at least a couple installers in the area. I'm in the middle of a 2x Fafco Solar Bear DIY install, but it's pretty...

How low in the plumbing will a VRV allow the solar system to drain?

I'm building a DIY solar system with this style of VRV at the top of the system: https://www.amazon.com/SolarPoolRepair-Vacuum-Relief-Valve-Heaters/dp/B01HZXGFIA/ I'm wondering how low it will drain down, specifically if I have a diverter valve 1-2 feet above the water line, will it drain when...

    New AGP build, base questions.

I did this with 1" R-Tech polystyrene foam boards. It is softer than the polyiso most people use but I am happy with it, it does get a little lumpy, both from taking on any lumps below it (I placed it on poorly packed bare dirt) and because heels will put minor impressions in it. That doesn't...

New to the forum... Hello and pump size question

Depends how much you value the molded base and preconfigured union connector. I found this part number for a two speed kit that once existed, but it seems like everything's in flux with the federal efficiency mandate this year and it's discontinued. You'd think this is the one they would...

    Power Pool

Is this a soft side Intex/Bestway or traditional hard side above ground pool? Just wondering if it has standard fittings or whether you'll be using intex adaptors. That waterway system seems to be within the price range of a more name brand system like Hayward or Pentair.

New to the forum... Hello and pump size question

There's too much advice on all the different steps so you'll just have to post updates as you get to them, but a standout in my mind is definitely plan to level with a transit or laser level. I went cheap and rigged up a water level and now my pool is 2" out of level across 18ft. Acceptable to...

It seems like the problem you might be up against now is that for the xstream line it looks like they only retail the 1.5HP/150sqft W3CC15093S They have a 1HP/150sqft CC15092STL but refer to it as "expert line" only available through pro distrobution. You might ask Appi in SC if they can get it...

Very close indeed! I am in SV. Are you planning to DIY your oval or hire it out? I put up my 18' myself and at the end of that day I would've said never again, but that feeling wears off of course.

New to the forum... Hello and pump size question

I would say so, yes. I have an 18ft round / 7700 gal AGP with a 1HP Hayward Powerflo Matrix and consider even it to be overpowered. It will turn my pool into a giant whirlpool if I turn the return eyeball at all to the side and the bare end of the vacuum hose will try to rip your hand off...

2 panel solar bank - same side feed/return or opposite

Ah, ok then, thank you for all that. I didn't know partial bypass was a common operating mode.

2 panel solar bank - same side feed/return or opposite

Thank you for the consideration. It's going to be manual bypass though and my plan is to leave it running through the solar except when vacuuming. So I'm hoping for a higher flow rate than that for filtration. Conceivably I could adjust the diverter valve to allow partial bypass, providing...

2 panel solar bank - same side feed/return or opposite

Thank you. I hadn't thought of it in terms of head loss across the header but it makes logical sense that way and lines up with my intuitive assumptions. Brings me back to another design choice I thought I'd settled on: 1.5" plumbing since my equipment and the panels have 1.5" threaded...

    leaky connection to solar heater

If 6' is long enough for your flex hoses get a Hayward EC1155 - it comes with two 6' 1.5" flex hoses with molded ends for barb fittings. I'm not sure about the location of your panel, it seems to me like all the sunlight you're capturing there would've hit the wall of the pool and heat the...
