Is 1 Backwash Sometimes Not Enough?

Hey folks, I'm new to Sand Filters. Just got a new 350 lb one, which has been in service 1 week cleaning a very dirty pool. The first time I turned it on the PSI was around 9, give or take 1. The first couple of times I backwashed, it brought the pressure back down to 10 psi. But now when I...

Skimmer Sock Pulling Skimmer Basket Through Ring

Hey folks, I want to use skimmer socks, but I've got this issue where after a few hours of the skimmer sock being on, the pressure becomes so great that the skimmer basket somehow forces it's way through the plastic ring that holds it up and it drops to the bottom of the skimmer. Anyone else...

    Plumbing a Slide

Hey folks, I plumbed in my slide so that I wouldn't have to deal with a garden hose anymore. When I turned it on though, I was only getting a trickle of water coming out, despite having great water flow in my pool. I see 2 potential problem points so wanted to see what you guys think is...

Normal For Filter Pressure To Drop A Little?

So, I had written off the skimmer basket when I didn't see a lot of stuff in it, but I figured what the heck and just went and cleaned it out and got rid of whatever gunk that was there. Restarted the system and turns out that was it. Pressure back up to 14. Thanks Jason!

Normal For Filter Pressure To Drop A Little?

Skimmer Basket was all clear although pump basket had some stuff in it (not a ton but maybe). Only other thing I can think of is maybe some of the DE got gunked up in side the filter and it finally broke free. I premixed it, but it's the only other thing I can think of. Oh well...as long as...

Normal For Filter Pressure To Drop A Little?

Hey folks, Background Opened the pool last week to a big mess. Now it's just milky cloudy water that I'm dealing with. This year I got a brand new oversized sand filter (27" 350 lb). I'm coming from a DE filter and still learning a little about the sand. Problem: While dealing with this...

    Special PVC Elbows For Pools?

I think chrisexv6 was right. They were all waste. I think they were fine, but I'm installing a gas heater, so with the plumbing inspector coming by soon for a visit, I just bought pressure ones to replace them with to be on the safe side. Thanks

    Special PVC Elbows For Pools?

Hey folks, I had a guy from a local pool store over for a quick quote on an unrelated project. He saw my pipes and first thing he said was: "Those 90 degree elbows you got don't meet code. They're not meant for pools. You should replace them.". Of course he he offered to do it. These are...

    Pool Heater In Your Basement?

Well it was fun to ponder, but maybe it's just not worth it. It's why I posted this, to hear if general feelings were "Yeah; people do it all the time; you should definitely consider it" or "Bad idea dude...I wouldn't do it". I primarily got the latter so... Thanks for the thoughts everyone!

    Pool Heater In Your Basement?

I had similar hesitations, but I wonder if they're warranted. I mean, we all have water lines travelling all over through the house. And while there are leaks in pool equipment, it's pretty rare that it's a major eruption that would cause the pool to empty. The reason I'm considering it is...

    Pool Heater In Your Basement?

Hey folks, I was over at the forums at dslreports and saw this post: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r27227597-Pool-heater-piping-question. where it appears that his pool heater is in his basement. See attached picture. I'm in the process of adding a natural gas heater and had never...

Type of line for Gas Heater

Thanks Paul. Got stuck with the trench cause both places wanted an extra 1k - 1.5K to dig the trench. Neither wanted to do that part so I think they both gave a high number for it knowing that I could do it myself. I'd love to go with the boring option, but I'd have to do it ahead of...

Type of line for Gas Heater

So, what do people think about the fact that the price I'm being quoted is the same whether it's PE or Rigid? Without the joints and with the different type of material, I would have guessed that PE would be significantly cheaper. Remember too that in both of these quotes I'm digging the...

    Equipment Pad Design

ahh...ok. I didn't know about the head loss and since the majority of the time the heater will be off, I guess at a minimum I'll have the bypass. Thanks!

Type of line for Gas Heater

How could it get installed without a trench? I ask because I'm responsible for making the trench in both quotes, so if I could avoid that, I'd love to. Thanks!

Type of line for Gas Heater

Exactly why I'm here. It's like asking if I'd rather be punched in the eye or the jaw. My answer is "How about neither?" but apparently that's not an option ;) So, what's worse? Deal with rust and more joints or deal with a more fragile material? I have no idea, they both sound bad, so...

    Equipment Pad Design

One quick question I thought of. I've read that heaters can be pretty sensitive to imbalanced water. Should I build in a bypass to the heater so that if my pool is ever far out of balance, the water never goes through the heater? Or is it only a concern if I turn on the heater and try to heat...

Type of line for Gas Heater

Interesting. I read somewhere though that PE has a problem of critters chewing through it, or getting crushed if you ever have heavy equipment drive over it. Truly an issue, or just internet forums going overboard?

Type of line for Gas Heater

Hey folks, I'm putting in a 400k Natural Gas Heater in MA. Gas company is coming in to replace my meter. I've gotten 2 quotes from plumbers for running the line. Both want around 2k for a 70' line. One though is using a flexible line (I'm guessing PE of some kind?), the other is using rigid...

    Equipment Pad Design

Do you have a brand name or a suggested site I should look at? So far, all I can find are generic ones that look similar to the ones in HD. For example, this site: http://www.parpools.com/page/pool/parts ... alves.html Or is it the case that these probably are better than the ones in HD...

    Equipment Pad Design

Thanks. Yeah, I've got 2 returns and 1 skimmer. Just the way the pool was done like 30 years ago. But I redid the piping last year and went from 1.5" all around, to 2" for the skimmer and 1.5" for the returns. The slide was never plumbed in the past. I used a garden hose. It's just such...

    Equipment Pad Design

Hey everyone, I just bought a new top mount filter and I'm getting a heater for the first time so I thought it's time to just replumb everything by my equipment pad since it needs it anyway. I attached a picture of the design I came up with. I have 2 points of concern with it: 1) Too many...

    Automatic Pool Cover Reliability

I've started looking into a solution from Pool Cover Specialists. Instead of it coming with a motor and requiring an electrical hookup, you use a cordless drill to open and close the cover. Sounds kludgey and clumsy and at first I was put off, but the sales person mentioned that with this...
