Great ideas. I'm finishing up my opening SLAM with good, mid-level CYA for my pool around 40. I have a few old shocks around, too, and will use them when I need a little FC *and* CYA boost. TFPeople are the best! :cool:

I got a little squeeze sample bottle with a tiny spout on it perfect for all my tests. To each their own, but no need to draw new samples for each test. I like the consistency of testing the same sample for whatever tests I'm running. :)

Got my new Intelliflo installed this weekend and am loving it. The old brass housing Anthony was a trooper, but a relic. Will have to look into whether that old work house has any value or is ready for the scrap heap. Had a new fence put in and the yard has really opened up. Delaying relocation...

My wife is a volunteer EMT and I just got two 50 ft. lengths of 1.5" fire hose for draining/backwashing. Idea is to stop flooding my neighbors out and running it to the storm drain out front. I'll need another 100 ft or so, but word is that that more hose is coming up for decommissioning soon...

Here we go. Loaded in 18 jugs of bleach. Water temp of 68. Adjusted pH to ~7.35. Got as many leaves and debris out as possible. CYA holding steady at 50. FC was basically zero. Added ~756 oz bleach for target FC of 20. Will test FC again in a couple of hours and see how rapidly it's dropping...

Yep. Understood. And no, no pool store stuff since getting my test kit and doing the partial drain and refill. It was all pucks before then and CYA was way high. I needed that down to SLAMmable levels. Off to stock up on bleach and possibly start SLAM tomorrow. I get the gist but yeah, the algae...

Preparing for SLAM (been reading a lot) is exactly why I've been trying to get a handle on CYA, then TA. Agreed on letting things settle for a few days. I'm also concerned about the FC levels, but my bad experience to date has me partly convinced that CYA, then TA and possibly CH are keeping me...

Agreed. It seems to be about getting the right combo of pressure and volume, with minimal loss. I'll wager using a tankless compressor would not produce the volume needed, where the shop vac motor would not produce the pressure needed. The pancake has enough of both. I have a 20-gallon tank...
