    I concur..... Great idea! :)

Stay the course or is a change in direction necessary

This is me, too. My skimmer and lid get kind of scummy... but it's a quick fix, usually. Keep at it! That Pool Patience is tough.

Pool Store vs. TFTestkit - testing the testers

Thanks for the side by side compare, Viking! I've been wanting to do that myself for a while. But I REALLY don't want to go to the pool store... :)

    Frustrated with cloudy water

Sounds like you're doing everything right! Best wishes for a successful SLAM :) If you have time this weekend while watching your FC, brush with all your might. It really does help. Good luck and hang in there! As you get used to the procedures, it gets so much easier, I promise. ♥

Algae or dirt? Sorry long post

I have not had a hazy water problem since switching to TFP. My water was very milky when I opened it this spring, but I SLAMed it and haven't had a problem since.

Algae or dirt? Sorry long post

I would guess dirt as well. I usually get dirt deposits at the top of the slope, in the dead corner of the deep end and sometimes near the stairs. It gets worse when the farmer next door does his tilling and planting. I've learned to live with it, and vacuum it away. When I brush, it does...

Guide my wife's anger (at pool store)

I know just how your wife feels -- I too am pretty mad at my local pool store -- I feel very misled, taken advantage of, and cheated. But I have chosen to not go and confront them. I would probably not feel any better... and it's just not in me to cause a fuss. The fault really lies with me...

Bioguard Pool Complete (what is this?)

Before switching to the (totally awesome) TFP method, I bought some of the "new, exciting" chemical offerings from the pool store. One is the Bioguard Pool Complete 3-in-1. Any clue about what this is, or what it (ACTUALLY) does? Claims: Keeps water AMAZINGLY clear Prevents build-up around...

All those wet towels and what to do with them

I have regular old 25 foot clothesline -- run from the edge of the deck to a pole my husband installed in concrete. Towels dry very quickly, and suits do too. If you've got the room, it's the easiest thing ever.

    Cloudy Water Help!

I just want to encourage you to keep it up! My pool is also slow to clear -- I thought it never would! I also recommend a deep clean of your sand. You'll be amazed (and grossed out) by what comes out of it! One day you will check it and be able to see the drain in the deep end. It WILL...

Run Pump 24/7 or let it rest?

Hi -- Just wondering what you all recommend as far as how much you run your pumps. When the pool chemistry is healthy, do you turn it off any? Thanks :)

New to forum. Algae help please!

Dave is right! Brush with all you've got and follow the advice here. Your filter (if it is working properly and maintained), brushing, balanced chemistry and bleach will get your water where you want it. Keep it up! You'll get there :)

    Cloudy Mess AGAIN

Good morning! My pool has seemingly held the FC level (albeit a necessarily high one, due to my CYA) for some time now, so I performed the OCLT last night. 9PM: FC 14 CC 1 7:30AM: FC 13.5 CC .5 Thanks for all the advice! I am so relieved and happy to have switched to...

    Cloudy Mess AGAIN

I re-tested and came up with some new numbers. FC: 21.5 CC: .5 PH: 7.3 TA: 136 TH: 325 CYA: 136 temp: 78 I think I will order some more CYA reagent right now :) Thanks for any input!

    Cloudy Mess AGAIN

Hello again! My test kit arrived today!! Yay! It is the TAYLOR TECHNOLOGIES INC K-2006 TEST KIT COMP CHLORINE FAS-DPD . Is this an ok one to use? I hope so. After trying it out, here are my numbers. They are a little wonky, I'm sure due to the elevated FC and ultimately the CYA. FC: 21.5...

Water level with automatic pool covers

I keep the water level right smack in the middle of the middle screw head on the skimmer plate. A little higher is ok, but not lower than that.

    Cloudy Mess AGAIN

Update: Added liquid bleach (12.5%) and raised the FC to way above what registers on my strips. Test Kit hasn't arrived yet -- I can't wait!! Continued filter 24/7, cleaned filter sand, replaced O-rings at all pump junctions, brushed until my arms fell off, vacuumed and backwashed several...

    Auto Cover Open or Closed?

Hi I apologize in advance if this question has been answered a million times already! Just wondering if during the SLAM process it is better to leave the pool uncovered or to close the automatic cover? I assume open, but I just want to get it right. Thanks! --Susiejax

    Cloudy Mess AGAIN

Hello! My normal routine includes 3" Chlorine Tabs in a feeder, 4 oz. Bioguard Back Up Algaecide and 1.5 lbs of Bioguard SmartShock weekly. So far upon opening, I added the "startup dose" of Algaecide (1 quart bottle), "startup" dose of Scale Inhibitor (2 quarts) and a ton of the shock...

    Cloudy Mess AGAIN

Thanks for the input all -- I'm actually kind of bummed because last summer, we did a partial drain and refill early in the spring because of the horrible cloudiness. Shortly after, the pool store told me my CYA was low and had me add a certain amount of stabilizer. I wish I recalled the...

    Cloudy Mess AGAIN

Hi everyone. As you can see, this is my first post. Thanks for having such a great forum! :) We opened our pool for the summer a few weeks ago. The water looks like watery old milk, and doesn't want to clear up. So far, I have only used test strips and the store to get chemical readings...
