Thanks. I'm a member over on johnbridge.com already for in-home tiling. I was thinking there was a special water-proof mortar to get it to set right, but maybe not.

A couple of my waterline tiles fell off on a corner of my pool. Is there any special way to reinstall these? Is there a special mortar and grout to use? I've done tiling in my house but nothing in the pool before.

Yes. 1 and 2 are separate skimmers.

I just emailed the previous owner and he confirmed that #4 is a suction side cleaner and I have already found the port. The pool still isn't clear so I had to feel around for it but sure enough, it's there. Thanks again for the help guys.

I guess the pressure rise was due to the vacuum doing its job and the sand filter getting dirty. I backwashed and everything returned back to normal. Now my task is to find out what #4 does and what the best way to run the vacuum is.

Thanks for the responses. What exactly is a suction side cleaner? Is this a dedicated line for a vacuum or something? The reason I'm asking about the lines is that I attempted to vacuum today for the first time so I had to experiment with the valves to get enough suction to keep the vacuum...

1- Skimmer 1 2- Skimmer 2 3- Main drain? 4- ???? (It's on the suction side of the pump) 5- Return So I'm only confused about 3 and 4. Could they both be main drains? I can't see the bottom of my pool to see if I even have two.

On day 4 of the SLAM now, pics below. I do have a couple questions about other tests during the SLAM. I tested the pH (which I know is inaccurate) but it's reading well below 6.8. Is the test this inaccurate during the SLAM or is it just a little off? Also, I tested the TA and it's reading...

Thanks for the response. I have read every article on Pool School at least once and I understand the recommended levels. My question is whether or not I will have to keep my TA below the recommended level and what affect that will have long term.

How low are we talking on the TA? Current TA is hovering between 30-40 but I just opened the pool 2 days ago. Are there any downsides to having such a low TA?

Thanks! I added 1 gal to bring the 7 up to a 10. Will go at it every hour for the next couple then pick it back up tomorrow.

Put 4.5lbs of stabilizer in a couple socks (to get to ~25 CYA), now SLAM is in progress. Added 2.5 gal of bleach to reach an FC of 10. Measured FC of 7 and CC of 1.5 an hour later.

Does this mean I need to use the liquid stabilizer to get the quick CYA effect? From my reading in the pool school, the normal CYA is a solid and is just placed in a sock in the skimmer. Will that method give me enough CYA right off the bat to start the SLAM?

Jackpot. pH=7.5, SLAMing starts tomorrow. One question about the SLAM: If my CYA is truly 0, how worried do I have to be about adding too much bleach? Should I add some stabilizer first to bring my CYA up to at least a measurable level?

So far I have added another 24oz and the pH is still > 8.2. I backwashed the filter and the psi dropped to 20 from 24, so that's encouraging. I went ahead and added another 20oz and I will test in a few minutes.

The bubbles are from air in the line due to me opening the filter bucket. They only lasted 1-2 minutes. All returns are pointed down. I will continue with the MA as planned. Thanks!

How will I know when to backwash? I read the backwash "How To" but it never stated when to do it. Also, I read about adding DE to a sand filter. Would it be pointless to do now or would it benefit me now to help clear the water?
