    pH minus vs muriatic acid!

interesting thing i found out the other day....i was getting my MA from Leslies and it was the 38 baum variety. then i was in need and happened to be near a home depot and they carried it as well, juts half strength. the value was with the stronger acid price wise, but i feel safer with the...

    When to take over

my guy pretty much told me "you better hire someone to take care of this" - gave me some pointers and left. he DID come back a couple times to answer questions when i had them, so it wasnt TOTAL abandonment, but just about! my parents on the other hand had the PB suggest a friend (optional)...

i agree, i like the higher range for sure.

New #9056 Comparator Has Higher FC Range (1-10PPM)

i have that one, it came with my 2005 (high) kit. it kinda leaves some gray area between 3 and 5 which annoys me, but my guesstimates are always within .5 of the FASDPD test.

Having to crank up my salt cell...a little TOO much?

Good tips thanks. I'm holding solid at 70%, but I'm slowly upping the CYA with dichlor after large parties as I have a bunch left over from before I found this site. I think I'm on th e right track. Thanks!

Having to crank up my salt cell...a little TOO much?

So to get back to this, I finally got to doing my OCLT after limping along with bleach supplements . Shut everything down at 10:30pm and tested at 7.0. Woke up at 6am and retested....7.0 again. Great for my piece of mind but not good as far as a cause, so it must be an equipment problem...

Cloudy water after party with 18 kids

it will be fine, it just takes a couple days to clear up in my experience so far. have had a couple LARGE parties with massive amounts of kids and its always cloudy after. i pre chlorinate up to 8 and ended up with 1 the next morning the last time - added a jug of chlorine bleach, filtered for...

Having to crank up my salt cell...a little TOO much?

interesting on your size of pools and the amount of hours you all run with basically the same setup as me. it really follows no pattern....of course, i don't know your water temps or climates. but im thinking that i might be okay reading your posts, just need to turn it up to make it happen in...

Having to crank up my salt cell...a little TOO much?

i haven't tested salt other than a test strip salt tester i bought. the SWG consistently reports between 3.6 and 3.7 - its supposed to be at 3.5. im pretty sure i have enough salt in there.

Just starting with SWG - need help with pool chemistry and start up

add bleach to get it where you want it - you don't want to wait for the SWG to do it. way faster to just dump in what you need. then you can start zero'ing in on the % and time you need to run it. get chlorine in there asap then turn the swg on and monitor your levels. make SURE you get your...

    How to keep ph down

this is interesting advice, never really thought about turning spa mode on during the day for even a short time to clean the spa out. sweeping it does no good since the bottom spa drains dont work during the pool filtering time - good idea.

Having to crank up my salt cell...a little TOO much?

oh trust me ping, i've read it. lol! thats how i got to 40% in the beginning. i think youre right about bumping it up even higher for the next monster party. @Conrad, thats true, and its quite possible i've underestimated the amount of time i'll need to run it. our weather really hasnt...

    How to keep ph down

in my pool, the spillover is sucked out water from the bottom drains of the pool circulating and pumping all to the spa jets to create the spillover. when i do that, the pool returns are off - but there is a valve i can throw to make the returns to the spa switch to the returns in the pool. so...

Having to crank up my salt cell...a little TOO much?

this is my first year with the pool so i have no standard for comparison. now, lets talk about scaling! so i removed the cell to inspect it and it looked pretty clean, no obvious scaling - maybe (MAYBE) some small bumps forming on the plate faces inside the cell, but nothing i would say is...

Having to crank up my salt cell...a little TOO much?

So for the past few month i've been crankin' along at what i established was the right number for my cell at 40% to keep me in the right zone - we had a big party Memorial Day (especially for my pool size) and woke up to pretty much 1-2ppm even after i pre-loaded with chlorine to 7-8 to bump it...

    How to keep ph down

well, if thats the case (sorry, ive only ever used muratic acid), then my advice is to just keep at it - it takes a while. whats the ta of your fill water i wonder? that will give you an idea of how far you've come doing what youre doing and how much longer it might take to get it to slow down.

    How to keep ph down

Does ph minus lower TA? Like I said earlier, I was experiencing a .1 rise per day like clockwork and was adding muriatic acid to adjust every 4 days, which has been SLOWLY lowering my TA. Now (6 month old plaster)I'm at TA of 80 and the ph rise seems to REALLY slowing down. Went up .1 in 3 days...

    iAqualink temp calibration?

so it's finally heating up a bit in Southern California. My iAqualink app reports that my pool is 83.....BUT my heater says the pool is 81. I believe the heater since you can really feel the difference. I had a party a couple weeks ago and heated to 80 via aqua link, and it felt chilly, now I...

    is my swg dead?

Do you have ANY chlorine in the pool? Seems about the right time frame for a cell to die - 3 years. On that specific setup, you have to tell us if it says its flowing and producing chlorine - OR if there are any errors...low/high salt, dead cell, low flow, etc. Should be pretty easy to tell...

    How to keep ph down

That does seem like a lot, are you running a waterfall? a lot of people get maybe a .1 rise per day - i've had that for months and have to add 16oz of muriatic acid every 4 days. Doing that has slowly lowered my TA and now things actually seem to be stabilizing. I also had a new plaster pool...

    Who knows, who doesn't?

Just went to a wedding this saturday and met a really cool couple, and the guy randomly starting talking about how his pool turned from green to brown in just a couple of days. then i mentioned i, too, had a pool and asked him the basic questions...and the response was right out of one of these...

    Salty Taste

the liquid bleach DOES contain salt. for every 141oz of 10% you add 10ppm salt to a pool your size. so you would have had to add 260 bottles of bleach in 2 years to get there. (obviously rough math). is that possible? once its there, the only way to get it out is to drain or have it splash...

    Keeping FC levels up

you DO want to test chlorine - i do every other day to make sure its working properly. your pool is warmer and gets more sun than mine but we have almost the exact same equipment and size of pool.

    Keeping FC levels up

you shouldnt have to add any. you have pretty much the same setup as me. maybe just toss some in before or after a big party. don't use the boost feature, just toss in some bleach and take it easy on your cell. just set the % so it maintains whatever level you need at whatever amount of time...

Finally got my TF F100 Kit

yeah, without the salt cell running, you have to jack the FC up to regular pool levels. you're too low even for a SWG pool anyway - if it were operational you could probably do a FC of 7. get that ph down for sure.

    Going away for the weekend...

Your cya isn't that high. You may HAVE a Swg but you really don't unless it works. I'd float the tabs if it were me. Juicing up the pool w chlorine will work of course....but what if you're gone longer? Maybe you can have someone....ANYONE , dump some chlorine for you one of the days. That is...
