Waterline tiles - keep level, or marry with coping?

I’ve subsequently retiled the waterline. Kept it within +/- 2mm, which in retrospect is plenty accurate enough over 10+ meters. my neighbours just had their waterline professionally retiled and it varies 10mm over 10m. It looks fine.

Sealant or grout between coping and waterline tiles?

Our setup is is like this: There is no expansion joint until beyond the the pool shell. The pavers overhang the pool by 30mm. It is similar to this situation which is recommending no grout between tiles and cantilevered edge. Here is another version: The consensus in these details...

Sealant or grout between coping and waterline tiles?

I am currently doing my waterline tiles. The coping is limestone glued to the concrete pool shell. The shell extends beyond the coping so the coping and pavers beyond are effectively locked together. I am deciding whether to grout the 5mm gap between waterline tiles and pavers, or to use a...

Flow rate through passive main drain?

I think I’ll just plug the line with an expansion plug, and put one of these covers over the main drain and hydrostatic valve https://www.aquea.com.au/pages/main-drain-retro-fit-lid-kit

Flow rate through passive main drain?

see pic that hole is 40mm pipe and connects directly to the main drain. it is directly above the skimmer basket and is normally submerged. The pool is currently empty.

Flow rate through passive main drain?

Yes by passive I mean the main drain is connected to the skimmer box. The port is just above the skimmer basket. I was under the impression that the port provides some suction effect even without the diverter in place? I presumed some of the flow is coming from the skimmer opening and a smaller...

Flow rate through passive main drain?

I have a single skimmer with a passive line to the main drain. What sort of flow rate do you get through the passive line compared to the amount coming in via the skimmer? Is it substantial? Does it aid circulation? I ask as were replastering the pool and I can either use a suction cover on...

Pool guy told me this is how it's done. I disagree

The 12V lights in Australia don’t come with a long cord with factory sealed connection to the light. You have to splice the wire into the light and seal it. M

Pool guy told me this is how it's done. I disagree

All the lights here are 12V. We had a pool built in the 1980s, and they were 12V halogen then. I have a vivid memory of removing the transformer box covers to investigate why the light didn’t work, and finding a near solid lump of rust. The box was flooded. Mental note - transformers go ABOVE...

Ahh, got it. You’re using full voltage. I’m using 12v lights.

Pool guy told me this is how it's done. I disagree

I’m installing lights at the moment. I’m splicing at the light, as opposed to pulling the whole cable through. interesting to see the different methods.

Why can’t you use the old cable? The cable typically splices at the light anyway.

Does Marble plaster delaminate if pool drained?

Since asking my question ive found a couple of sections which have delaminated and become drummy. I read on another forum that it is due to thermal movement of the plaster layer, ie when the plaster changes temperature too quickly, causing it to grow (or shrink) at different rate to the...

Does Marble plaster delaminate if pool drained?

I am currently renovating our old marble plaster pool. The marble plaster has been sandblasted. I have heard marble plaster can delaminate if a pool is left empty for too long. Does anyone have experience with this? How long before it delaminates if its going to do so? Why does it delaminate...

Waterline tiles - keep level, or marry with coping?

I guess my question is how level is level? Should I really be aiming for 1mm level accurate over 12m? Seems a bit overkill when I could be absorbing some of the 10mm difference and leaving a more consistent gap. I suspect I’ll split it half way, and add an extra 1-2 mm here and there in...

Waterline tiles - keep level, or marry with coping?

It’s not that noticeable because the wall is curving around in that area. See the old tiles here. The lowest tiles occur at the top of the step. The tile line ramps up quickly by 25mm to match the weir level, as presumably the tiler didn’t want to leave half tiles at The weir. There’s up to 10...

Waterline tiles - keep level, or marry with coping?

I am about to retile our waterline with black mosaic tiles. The pool is 12m x 4m (40ft x 13 ft). Three sides are straight, and one long side has curves. Due to the existing concrete structure levels the pavers/coping are 10mm (3/8 inch) higher at the shallow end. I am wondering how best to...

Pool guy told me this is how it's done. I disagree

This pool was painted too. I remember it well. Bright blue paint with grey chips across it. Im not saying it’s right, I’m just pointing out that it does get done that way.

Pool guy told me this is how it's done. I disagree

Ours neighbors pool renovator used that method where they made 1 inch chips every few inches. They subsequently plastered over it with pebble plaster. It’s been a few years and no delamination.

Marble plaster - full chip out or not?

I am renovating our 40 year old marble plaster pool (called “marble sheen” in Australia). I am deciding how much plaster to remove prior to pebble plaster recoat. The marble plaster has clearly defined patches which are failing. The plaster is soft and crumbling in these areas. My 3000 watt...

    Are DE filters still popular?

Presumably the 1psi rise is pump on high speed? I run mine on low speed most of the time.

    Are DE filters still popular?

How much are you adding roughly to get your 1pse rise? A few cups? A box?
