    Prepairing Ground Help

A lawn roller isn't necessarily meant for compacting soil and sand, they are meant to flatten out high spots in a lawn. Even the heaviest of residential rollers probably do not compact as well as a hand tamper. If you really want to compact the ground I would look into renting or borrowing a...

    Heat pump, special care?

Not a service or storage tip, but something I feel worth mentioning. If possible, schedule your pool pump / heat pump to run during the warmest part of the day for the best efficiency from your heat pump. The warmer it is outside the more efficient your heat pump will be. Enjoy that warm...

    Tricky decision

Kimkats, per his initial post he states it is a 41,000 gallon pool. I am thinking this is something different than what is listed in his signature as you noted. I like the laps with a paddle idea, but then again I love to canoe!

DIY Pool Electric --- Adding 100 amp subpanel for pool pump, heat pump, light

I will give you the quick information I have retained on when I upgraded the panel in our shed for our new heat pump. We pulled 4 individual wires for service so we had an insulated ground. They were copper and I believe 10ga, replacing 12ga per code. Used copper wire and it went through 3/4"...

Vita spa slow leak - could it be the jet?

I believe I can tell you how to remove the jet internals from the jet bodies as I just had to take some of mine out and your jets look like mine. Check this video here and see if you jets match up. Old Hot Tub Spa Jet Nozzle Overhaul Fix - Apollo Spa - Gecko - YouTube this one also has a good...

All jets working minus one corner (they are in the open position).

Shooting from the hip here, but I did a google image search and it looks like this is a stand alone hot tub. If it is, is it losing any water while running? Even a small drip would show a lowered water level over a week or two. Second, are there any large jets down in the main center well...

    CYA Getting High?

I would think with 62 posts on this forum you would know how willing to help members are. But giving meaningful accurate advice requires some knowledge of what they are being asked about, such as an estimated pool size and type. How can you make any chemical additions without having an inkling...

    Parts of a pool

Not sure why Geebot is saying you want a heater and not a heat pump. I live in MA and we have a heat pump and it works great, we aim for the same swimming season you have listed. I even pushed to October last year because of the warm weather. My wife was the pushing factor behind the purchase...

    Heat water

I agree with what CJadamec said. We also have a heat pump in MA and I find it works quite well. Also as previously mentioned, a solar cover and reel is worth its weight in gold as far as saving energy. Also, set your pump and heat pump to run during the warmest time of the day as they are more...

Can I use this for daily chlorination?

Along with everyone else, that is what I use to chlorinate our pool. They sell a lot so it is always fresh and since it is 12.5% you have fewer bottles to recycle. Not to mention it was the lowest cost per chlorine I found.

    Stubborn Algae

Dave, just be careful adding too much CYA, it takes a while to dissolve and show on the test, it is better to slowly creep up on your target than overshoot it. It sounds like you are winning the battle, keep the FC up and you will be amazed at the clarity of your water. Siber, can you please...

New Pool Buda (just south of Weird) Texas - November 2017

Pool and cement are looking great. Another note about air pressure that you sort of covered, but I will add to. Air pressure is affected by temperature and when air is compressed it generates heat. So, most of the time when something is filled with freshly compressed air from a compressor...

Which flagstone sealant to use (Non SWG)

I have no experience with stone sealers but do have a casual observation. If Stonetech is a "sealer" and you apply it first and allow it to dry, how will the Enhancer Pro be able to reach the stone to change the color and provide protection? Since the stone is technically sealed by the...

    Safety cover and water levels

I believe most manufacturers say the water should be within 15" of the safety cover. When you began installing the straps onto the anchors of the pool did you follow any pattern? Our cover came with instructions and a pattern on which straps to attach in what order See Step 5...

Newb! Mesh cover delivered to install, pool not closed yet, freezing temps this week!

I just installed a new mesh cover prior to closing our pool this year. The only real reason you need the water higher to support the cover is to make it easier to ensure your measurements for the anchor locations are correct. Can you lay the cover out today/tonight, make sure your anchor...

    The swamp in my backyard...

I hate to be a debby downer, but how did you "get a way to test it"? If your answer to this question is the free testing from the pool store and not one of the suggested test kits you will more than likely still have problems. Pool stores are notorious for having poor and varying test results...

Just had new pool start up

CYA just prevents chlorine loss due to sunlight and even then as mentioned earlier, it doesn't prevent 100% of chlorine being lost to the sun. Overnight, when the sun is down you should lose 0ppm to .5ppm of chlorine if your pool is clean and there is nothing in there being killed by the...

Heat Pump vs Propane Heater in New England

Sorry for not updating this thread earlier, but the heater is installed and has been running great since the beginning of July. The timing was perfect for our daughter's first birthday party on July 9th. When the heater was first turned on on the 6th the water temp was 78*, it heated the pool...

    Pool heater hookup

Just an FYI, depending on how you plan to install your heater and if you are using any valves, you can use a Jandy never lube valve as a reducer from 2" to 1.5". It's what I did with my heater.

    Pool + Spa in MA

Pool is looking good and that is a slick way to plumb in the sheer descent. May I ask why you are going with an AquaComfort heater? I just installed an AquaCal heater and when doing my research read that AquaComfort may inflate their efficiency numbers as they do not submit to AHRI for...

Heat Pump vs Propane Heater in New England

Wanted to give everyone an update. I placed the order for the heat pump last week, we are going with the Aquacal Super Quiet 225 model from Pool Heat Pumps. It should be delivered in another week or two. In the mean time I am working on pouring the slab and have ordered all the plumbing parts...

Heat Pump vs Propane Heater in New England

Jay and Leebo, thanks for the feedback and information on running your heat pump. You and the other posters bring up a good point about the ambient temperatures and heating the pool with a heat pump. But this is also why I think a heat pump will work well for us is because we aren't usually...

Heat Pump vs Propane Heater in New England

Hi Leebo, Thank you very much for the welcome and the tips. While this is my first post, I have lurked quite a bit before joining and have already learned a lot from this great site! We have looked into solar and the front of our house faces South and at this point in time, it is not...

Heat Pump vs Propane Heater in New England

Hello everyone, I am hoping for some input from the community on the best way to heat our pool. It is a 18 x 36, approximately 27,000 gallon pool on the Southcoast, MA, near Cape Cod, but not on it. My wife and I would like to heat the pool to 85 degrees from late May/June through the middle...
