Connecting Hayward Pump to Hayward Cartdridge Filter with intake at bottom not top

Are all the fittings that screw onto/into the filter and pump just stuff I can get at a hardware store or do I need to buy something special?

Connecting Hayward Pump to Hayward Cartdridge Filter with intake at bottom not top

I am having trouble figuring out how to connect my Hayward pump Sp1592 to my new cartridge Hayward Filter W3C500. The Filter intake is at the bottom of the unit. Is there a kit or something to use? I am struggling to find anything online and pool store people have been less than helpful. Even...

Hi Everyone...New Member Here, Same Old Problems

Thanks for feedback on the white powder. I planned on doing a deep cleaning or sand replacement in the spring when I opened it back up. I agree that I think I need to inspect the laterals just to be safe In other news did a OCLT and last night it was 20ppm and this morning it was 19, so I...

Hi Everyone...New Member Here, Same Old Problems

quick update, got home too late for an OCLT so I'll do that tonight. Keeping my pool at shock level today. I attempted to vacuum the white powder on the floor of the pool and it immediately started coming out of the return jet, so whatever it is must be too fine to captured by the filter, so I...

Hi Everyone...New Member Here, Same Old Problems

when I was in a pinch last week, I used power powder plus shock, then i switch to liquid chlorine which i'm using now. My normal method or chlorinating the pool is using pucks. Thank you very much for all your help.

Hi Everyone...New Member Here, Same Old Problems

I'm not sure what it is, no. I've never had a white powder like substance on the floor before, I've had dirt and what I now know was dead algae but this is new.

Hi Everyone...New Member Here, Same Old Problems

Other notes about the pool this morning. The water is clear and I can see the floor, the floor has a lot of wite powder on it which could be calcium based on what mknauss told me yesterday. Should I be brushing that up or vacuuming it out of the water completely? Based on the criteria for...

Hi Everyone...New Member Here, Same Old Problems

This mornings results. I need to add water because the heat is zapping it but once I do I'm going to turn the filter on and add the necessary liquid chlorine.

I didn't test CH but I will do that in the morning. What do I do to maintain 24ppm? Don't add anything for now and keep testing until it gets down to 24?

Hi Everyone...New Member Here, Same Old Problems

Well my test kit finally arrived. The water is blue and I can see the bottom but not completely clearly. There is a white powder on the floor of the pool which I assume is algae? Let me know what you think I should do

Hi Everyone...New Member Here, Same Old Problems

I shocked it last night and this morning with power powder plus and today when I got home from work it was cloudy but blue. I just added 5ppm liquid chlorine to it and I'm going to let the filter run for another 3-4 hours. Kit is coming to me by next Friday

Hi Everyone...New Member Here, Same Old Problems

My current status is that I'm green, but I don't have the proper testing kit, so I was advised to add 5ppm of bleach/chlorine each day until I can do the proper testing and then go from there. Once I get my test kit next week I anticipate I may have to SLAM it.

Hi Everyone...New Member Here, Same Old Problems

Ok, will get on that. I think this is my last question for now haha. In the next week, my "holding pattern". Do I run my filter continuously, adding the chlorine each night or once it's not green anymore do I run it my normal 3-4 hours per day?

Hi Everyone...New Member Here, Same Old Problems

Ok, noted. I have been reading different articles in Pool School, which is an amazing resource. Another thing I know I need to do is replace my gauge, it's cloudy and the pressure is at 30 when the filter is off so it's not working properly.

Hi Everyone...New Member Here, Same Old Problems

Well I guess that's a silver lining for me. My test kit is ordered and I should have it next Friday. In the meanwhile, I will buy the liquid chlorine and add it at 5ppm level each day like you told me. Should I backwash and scrub each day as well?

Hi Everyone...New Member Here, Same Old Problems

I thought you would say that based on reading of other threads. So, even though there are many variables still to figure out, is it safe to say that I probably don't have a filtration issue and that it's all chemistry at this point?

Hi Everyone...New Member Here, Same Old Problems

Great thank you, I will check that. You also asked me to try and get a sample of the debris last night. I tried to scoop it up with the skimmer and it turned into a cloud. So I assume that means it's not sand and its dirt/dead algae?

Hi Everyone...New Member Here, Same Old Problems

found this at lowes... Shop Pool Essentials 1-Gallon Liquid Pool Chlorine at Lowes.com if i was calculating how much to put in using pool math, i would still use the bleach category? I don't see one for liquid chlorine. It appears this is 10%?

Thank you mknauss, I checked Lowes, Target, BJ's Wholesale for bleach but didn't even think to look for liquid chlorine. Expensive mistake.

Hi Everyone...New Member Here, Same Old Problems

So...I'm sure this isn't news to anyone else but it's really hard to find normal plain bleach out there. I checked 3 different stores and no one had it, they all had cloromax or splashless. So, I bit the bullet and went to the pool store and bought a box of power powder plus shock so I could...

Hi Everyone...New Member Here, Same Old Problems

Thanks for the advice, I'll get a sample tonight. As for adding 5ppm of bleach to the pool each night. Based on my 8000 gal volume, it appears that would need about 2/3 of a gallon of bleach. Does that sound right?

I would say that yes, the dirt on the bottom of the pool has been consistent since I opened it this year.

Hi Everyone...New Member Here, Same Old Problems

Quakertown is Pennsylvania, near Philadelphia. I did have dirt and debris in it, but I also had a cover rip so I won't know if it was from that or anything else unfortunately.

Hi Everyone...New Member Here, Same Old Problems

Thanks for the welcome Pool math downloading as we speak, and I will pull the trigger on the test kit as well. Understood on the cloudiness. When I question my filtration issue it was more due to the constant "dirt" on the floor of the pool. Regarding any possible damage to the filter due...
