Mesh cover question -- 20x40 on 18x36 pool?

It will void the warranty (probably not an issue if buying used, not sure the warranty transfers anyway) The other "issue" might be in the future if you go to replace it and cant find the same exact size, you'll be drilling anchor holes again. Also keep in mind Im guessing a used cover doesnt...

Cheap Morton Salt Pellets - $3.79/40 lb bag at Sears

Friend of mine is the same way....swears using anything other than something labelled Pool Salt will make the sky fall, your SWG explode and your pool turn colors. Luckily Morton Pool salt at Walmart is only 5.79/bag around here, so its not much more expensive than the alternatives. Only about...

    Autopilot DIG220 Fried Board

FWIW, in the beginning of the season I checked my salt level with the strips, brought a sample to the pool store where they tested with strips and a Myron meter, and checked the reading on my AutoPilot. My strips, and both of the stores tests matched within 100, my (previously calibrated last...

Cheap Morton Salt Pellets - $3.79/40 lb bag at Sears

yeah same here, Lowes has the Diamond Crystal solar salt, HD carries Morton solar salt. Both are 4.7something per bag I felt the Morton stuff dissolved faster but the Diamond stuff was "cleaner" (I had only one bag of Morton but it had some white piece of garbage in it that didnt dissolve...

    Northstar impeller noise

Not trying to steal the thread, but I was curious (mas985): do you see any electrical savings going from the 0.5HP single speed to low speed on the 2 speed SuperPump motor? Knock on wood my 1/2HP Northstar is running just fine but was curious if I could justify going to a 2 speed motor with the...

    Broken Lateral(s)

See if you can get ANY more information in regards to part numbers, etc. Any numbering on the multiport, the tank, etc. Googling didnt find very much about Titan filters, it makes me wonder if they really are re-labelled Hayward stuff. Also look hard on the multiport, I know inlet and outlet...

    Broken Lateral(s)

Any updates? Have you checked the sand level in the filter? My sand filter would push dirt back through the returns when the sand level was low (long story, but I dont think the installer put the correct amount in). I know its rated for a certain WEIGHT of sand but there may also be a...

I have a 4 year old Platinum Legend

Re: Best robot for ~$1000??? On our second season with Blue Diamond and love it. I have a sand filter so running Blue (as we call him) helps get the water a little more sparkling along with pulling out fines that the sand filter would miss. The bag is fairly easy to clean....Ive tried a...

Millions of tiny red bugs - to spray or not to spray?

Yeah I think they are clover mites. We get them occasionally around here (CT), usually on concrete walls, fire pits, etc. Rarely around windows and stuff to the point that they end up in the house (Ive never had it but my sister in law did....oh the humanity ;) ) I believe they were told you...

    Concrete deck crack repairs

I see you are in CT....we have winters! (and "spring" that feels like winter, like today!) Yearly freeze and thaw will takes its toll. Also there might be some ground settling/shifting underneath the concrete (its just fill dirt most likely) We have a good size crack in one section of our...

    Retractable Awnings

I almost went this route last year. I was looking at Sunsetter (they get good reviews and I know a family member that bought one and loves it). Motorized retract, etc. If you are a Costco member you can order through them for special pricing, and once a quarter or so their coupon book...

    Add salt before cleaning pool?

Yeah hold off on the salt. I managed to open my pool using 1 lb of chlor hypo shock, 5 gallons of 12.5% and some granular CYA. Once the water was mostly clear and the dead algae gone I kicked the SWG on a fairly low %-age since the FC is still coming down from the shock.

    Ground-Fault breaker on new pump

Only time my GFCI breaker for the pool has tripped was when an underground splice (made long before I ever got there) started letting just enough moisture in from the surrounding dirt to trigger the GFCI. My (now 10 yr old) pump motor itself has never been an issue

Controllng my Salt Water Cell with Current Relay

Looking at the EcoStar manual it looks like there are 2 output relays from the control panel. It should be a matter of using a multimeter to see how they function (i.e. with the pump on do they go closed, open, etc) and then interfacing them with the salt system. Current sense relay could...

Where do you buy your parts for rebuilding pumps and motors?

Re: Where do you buy your parts for rebuilding pumps and mot mcmaster.com is where I go for bearings if I know the trade size or actual dimensions. Ive never bought o-rings from them but I think the same would apply: if you know the size and diameter they can probably be had much cheaper...

Major leak with pump is on recirculate

I had a leaking multiport once.....I ran a longer hose from the waste outlet right back into the pool. Not sure if the "leaking" water is filtered or unfiltered at that point, but at least you wont be losing water and that way you can use the filter and start getting it clear while you wait for...

    Lubricant Question

I try to lube mine after I close the pool then store them in a zip-loc bag. Upon opening the next season they are already lubed and ready to go. If I forget to do it at the end of a season I just lube them up before firing everything up. Ive been using a few small bottles of o-ring lube that...

Major leak with pump is on recirculate

Water by the filter combined with a lower water level would point more at something filter or pump related being the source rather than the main drain which you just happened to be suctioning from at the time. I agree to check out the multiport. While the gasket isn't officially replaceable...

    SWG Cell terminals burnt out

The conductors have too much exposed uninsulated copper for my tastes but still looks better than what may have caused your issue originally. Another suggestion is dielectric grease on the connections. It will help keep them in good condition, prevent corrosion, etc.

    AutoPilot Digital question

Is there a chart, listing, etc. that shows the relationship between cell Volts/Amps and salt level? Ive seen a few posts that mention looking at Volts/Amps/Power level from the cell to determine "how its running" and that should also be an indication of if the salt level is correct. Was...

    Injecting Stabilizer via the Clorinator

Oops! Mine is already reading almost 60 and I just added it Saturday. Looks like I might end up with a little too much CYA (I think my CYA reagent from last season were bad and reading way low in comparison to reality) I see a (very) partial drain and refill in my future.

    Injecting Stabilizer via the Clorinator

I used some cheap pantyhose and filled the legs with granular stabilizer. Initially hung it in front of the return jet in the deep end, once it was almost gone I let it sit in the skimmer basket (tied to my pool fence so it didnt cause a vacuum). One question though - if you let it dissolve...

Older CYA hardware...compatible with TF refill?

I have an original PoolForum test kit (roughly the "original" to the TF test kit that we all know and love). Since the hardware has been fine through the years I just order the refill set from Duraleigh. Im not sure but I thought I heard along the way the CYA reagent in the refill kit isnt...

Need grill part, can anyone help?

Thanks. I wanted to avoid it if possible, since everything is so integrated with the gas valve (although I suppose I could just remove the flash bar and ignitor portion). Not sure how easy it would be align all new stuff, but its an option. I have it up and running now using high temp RTV to...

Need grill part, can anyone help?

I have a 9+ yr old Kirkland Signature gas grill (sold through Costco, built by Virco which is now Nexgrill) The grill still works great but the electrodes in the ignitors "slid out" of the ceramic insulators. Im not sure what held them in there from the factory but once they slid out they...

    PoolPilot Digital run pump constant

Its not a huge deal. I just prefer to have control over it just in case. Mostly when there are people in the pool I prefer the filter to be on, and if they swim outside of the timeclock hours that cant happen. For now Ive been using program 2 to encompass a wider range of hours than program...

    PoolPilot Digital run pump constant

Thats what I thought too, but it didnt seem to act that way. Unless I missed something (i.e. my wife playing tricks on me!) if I activate the pump that way before the program begins it will run until the program is supposed to end.

    PoolPilot Digital run pump constant

When I installed my Pool Pilot I used the pump relay to wire my pump directly to the unit. The only thing Ive regretted is that I cant find an easy way to just bypass the pump program(s) and run the pump constantly. Am I missing some easy way to do this? Or is it a drawback of using the pump...

    Cordless M5 Liberty

The little spec sheet I found says it uses lith ion batteries, so at least new(er) technology. 3 year warranty on everything minus battery, 2 year warranty on battery. Has an interesting little gryoscope thing tethered to it to scan the pool area (I thought none of the robots actually scanned...

    Pool Pole Replacement Questions

Nice find! When I was looking I couldnt find anywhere on the net that would actually ship it (Im guessing Amazon will). They wouldnt ship because they were worried it would get bent/dented before arrival. BTW, the heavier duty version is here on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Skimlite-3008-Pro...
