    Algae Returns Overnight While Shocking...Weird?

Our pump motor burned out a couple of weeks ago. We got the new one hooked up and running Friday evening, dumped some bleach in and started shocking yesterday am. The pool went 10 days without running, but the water was still crystal clear and the algae wasn't really that bad - just along the...

Who has actually had mustard algae..

I'm watching this thread closely because I'm 99% certain I'm battling MA. Fits the description, keeps re-forming in the same places (mostly in and along the seams of the liner and in the corner of the deep end where the pool is in the most shade), and something is certainly eating my FC!! (Plus...

    Putting in steps?

We had a terrible problem with algae w/ our drop in steps, with or without the mat. By the second half of the pool season, it was a non-stop loosing battle. Then we found this link last summer and had much better luck! http://www.ellerbach.com/Pool/Steps/ We used the mat and tried to brush as...

    "Redneck Pool Heater"

Hi! Yes, that's Logan, our blue ACD. We also have a red girl, Maggie Mae. Yes, they are VERY smart and energetic! Logan especially! Maggie is more prissy. :thequeen: I always joke that after having cattle dogs, my next dog will be a Mastiff! Funny! Did you get your girls from a breeder? I know...

    "Redneck Pool Heater"

So we're finally going to break down and get a propane heater for the pool. The solar panels just aren't cutting it, especially this time of year. While doing our research, we came across this: http://www.redneckpoolheater.com/ At first glance it seems ridiculous, even funny. But once you read...

Help! Ran Out of R-0071 Right in the Middle of It!

I said "almost" :) ....I had to brush a little off the sides today so just want to be sure by doing the overnite test before I let it drop to normal levels.

Help! Ran Out of R-0071 Right in the Middle of It!

We uncovered our pool Sunday and have been shocking the aglae away since. It's almost gone, water's now a slightly cloudy blue and FC has been close to holding all day. I was going to do the overnight test tonight but am almost out of R-0071 drops! I just ordered some but it will be a couple of...

    Ready to switch to Bleach

Just an FYI re: your CYA reading...our first few water tests this year were done at the pool store and our CYA was reading 85-100. We were going to drain and refill but decided to wait until the TF-100 test kit we ordered arrived so we could test the water ourselves first. Our CYA readings w/...

Add Bleach to Skimmer or in Front of Return Jet?

I could have sworn when I first started reading all the info on TFP that I read that bleach should be poured directly into the skimmer. Now this morning, I'm seeing a few places where you recommend adding in front of a return jet, including "How to Chlorinate Your Pool" in PS. (Why newbies...

    Making the Switch to BBB

So we were successful in shocking our pool. Started Sat evening and by Tues am the FC held. Last full set of tests I did Tuesday evening were: FC: 6.5 CC: .5 pH: 7.6 CH: 150 TA: 160-180 CYA: 30 Water looks BEAUTIFUL and FC has been holding at at least 5 all week, today was the first day I had...

Finally drained my pool due to 100+ CYA level

Would it be 3% even if it says 6% on the label?

Finally drained my pool due to 100+ CYA level

Our water was perfectly clear but had light patches of algae on the walls and in the seams of the liner. It just wouldn't hold FC at all before we found this site. Sunday was the first full day we shocked and each time we tested, the FC had dropped considerably. We couldn't be home all day but...

Finally drained my pool due to 100+ CYA level

We just did our first shock using the BBB method and following the instructions from Pool School and the overnight test. It took about 2-1/2 days of keeping the FC at the shock level (Sat evening to Tuesday am). We brushed a couple of times, vacuumed once and backwashed once. I'd say we used...

    Pet Pictures

One more in addition to my last post...last summer I hosted a Cattle Dog Fun Day at my house for the rescue group I am a member of - Carolina Australian Cattle Dog Rescue & Rebound. 20 ACDs over! We let them each have a turn at swimming just a couple at a time so we could manage them and teach...

This is a great thread! We have 2 dogs who love the pool, one especially - Logan, our Australian Cattle Dog, is a freak at the pool! Our red ACD Maggie Mae is more like my mom was during "Rest Period" at the neighborhood pool when we were kids...takes one very girly lap without even...

    Making the Switch to BBB

We rec'd our test kit on Tuesday and we have for the most part been able figure things out pretty easily. Re: our CYA - it was tested 2x by the pool store the week before last with readings at 100 and 85 ...we are getting 30-35 after 3 tests with the TF-100 so are going with that. Sound good...

    Making the Switch to BBB

Thanks, everyone, for the welcomes and advice. I def want to get our CYA down b/c, if I'm understanding everything correctly, you CAN keep it higher than 50, but that means more product you have to add to keep your FC high enough. Right? Dropped it about 6" today and refilled. Didn't drop more...

The Algae Fight with Drop-in Pool Steps

We purchased a set of drop-in pool steps for our IG pool about 5 years ago, the kind you weigh down with sandbags. Here's a link to a set similar to ours: http://surfsidepoolcompany.com/item/ACP300/700/c91 By end of July/early Aug, the algae builds up inside and it's a loosing battle from...

    Making the Switch to BBB

Hi. I just joined yesterday but have been reading through the forum for about 2 weeks now. Since that time, which is about when we opened our pool, we've spent over $500 at the pool store and still have 0 FC. So we are ready to pull the trigger on BBB. After reading all the info on here, I'm...

I need help BIG TIME... FRUSTRATED

I just joined the forum today but hubby and I have been reading through the threads for about 2 weeks now as we have been "pool stored" to death for the past 6 years. We have a game plan for the BBB switch, just waiting on our test kit to arrive to see if we really need to drain half the water...
