Welcome to the New and Improved TFP!!!

Site looks great! Just one suggestion. It might help to put a border line in to separate the stickies from the posts. That little + sign is hard to see and it makes it a bit difficult to distinguish between the stickies and the new posts.

Beware of the Law of Unintended Consequences.....Glowbuoy

I have a complaint. My complaint is that the Glowbuoy works too well!! Let me give you some background. I put a nice size hole at the end of last season, so in April, we had our liner replaced. It was the only week in April when the temperature was above 60. It took 3 days to fill up the...

Help me Im drowning in baqua goo....

Ok, your CL levels definitely are not high enough. You want the FC to be 15. The FC + CC = TC. You ultimately want the CC's to be 0. No greater than 0.5.

    Algae or to much chemicals?

To answer your very first question, yes, that's algae. I hate to sound like a broken record but you really need the good test kit and a better filter. If you have to wait on the filter, please get the test kit. But, if you are going to get this cleared with the filter you have, you have to...

    Blue-Green & Cloudy Water

Bogey, Take your water to a pool store and request a full set of test results, including CYA. If your CYA tests under 30, the ONLY thing you should buy from the pool store is CYA/stabilizer. Leave everything else there. Come back, post your numbers, and we will steer you towards a clear...

    Should we convert?

hlemon, Hi and welcome! I would suggest just reading through some of the conversion threads. They will give you an idea of why the person is converting. Almost everyone says that they were spending thousands on baquacil and that BBB is so much cheaper. Also everyone complains of the pink...

started conversion then torrential rain, now what

Glad you and your family are well. Yes, start over. Having to lower the water level may have worked to your advantage since you were essentially replacing water and therefore lowering the baq levels as well. Just get a full set of numbers so you know what you are starting with and then start...

Help me Im drowning in baqua goo....

Yes, it could very well be yellow. There are a lot of different colors displayed when going through a conversion. As for the test kit. There are 2 different tests for CL in the kit. The test in the blue box is the basic test used for everyday maintenance testing. You should be using the...

    Question on PSI Cartridge Filter

I'm not sure if we have the same one, but I also have a Proline filter. First thing to do after shutting of the pump, is to close your valves at the skimmer and return. That way you will not drain the pool. Second, there is a plug at the bottom of the filter that needs to be removed. This...

Above Ground Liner Replacement (NJ) Advice?

I'm not sure where in NJ you are located, but I just had my liner replaced in April. It was $350 for a 21' round AGP. I don't have the name and number of the company with me, but if you want it, just send me a PM and I will give it to you.

    Stumped...

A weed barrier with some rocks over it is what a lot of people do. We are having ours done in a week or so. How is the drainage around the pool? If it isin't good, you may have to dig a trench around it and put in a drainage pipe. You can check out the slide show for some ideas also.

WOW, I could see the bottom of my pool this morning!

Hi poolpsycho, Just a friendly suggestion, it is a good idea to keep all the posts regarding your conversion in one post. That way anyone that is following it will have all the information in one place. It will help others that are considering converting as well as anyone that may need to...

    ADDING CYA

I let my filter run on it's normal schedule, (2) 6hr cycles, and it takes about 4 days for my sock to empty. Just make sure you don't clean your filter for about a week. CYA is slow to dissolve and some will be in your filter until it completely dissolves. oops, was typing at the same time...

Converted in spite of my local pool store

Truthfully, no. The pucks have CYA in them. For every 1ppm of CL added, 0.6 ppm of CYA is added. If they are used on a regular basis for chlorination, eventually your CYA level will become too high. Once that happens, the only way to correct the problem is to do a partial drain and refill...

Converted in spite of my local pool store

Hi maxhome and welcome to TFP! You will definitely need to add some CYA/stabilizer to your pool. You will also need a test kit that has the CYA test included. You also need to be able to test your FC up to 15ppm. You can go with the TFTestkit sold by a member of this site, or the Taylor...

Need info on building a retaining wall for above ground pool

I can only answer a small portion of this. We are having a retaining wall built in our backyard. I am sure it is dependent on the size of the blocks. We are using pavers that are 4"H. For that size block, the instructions are for walls 1' or less, the first course (block) should be partially...

Yes, I will try that too. We had our liner replaced in April and by the time all the water was in, we had wrinkles. Thanks!

Hello! New happy pool owner, a few pics, and questions..

I understand your frustration. I have a yard surrounded by maple trees. I am fighting pollen, leaves and green "helicopters". As the summer continues, it will be leaves and brown "helicopters". The brown ones stain everything. I purchased a poolskim and it was one of the best investments I...

    Liquidator and AGP

I actually put a piece of pvc between the flexible hoses. It is not the prettiest, but it works. I have the 6' flexible hose coming out of the return. It is connected to an 18" piece of pvc. I drilled the hole for the liquidator fitting into that. I couldn't find a 3' piece of flexible...

    Close to end of conversion

Hi and welcome to TFP! You may need to get a new cartridge. I know you started with a new one when you started your conversion, but most people that have converted have a lingering amount, 0.5, of CC's until they change out the filter media. Although you are cleaning the cartridge, it is...

Lets hear your pool critter stories.

Well, I now have a submission. Went outside Saturday morning to try out my new poolbuster and was greeted by a dead bird floating in the pool. I promptly went to get DH to fish him out since I don't do dead things. I get the creeps just thinking about it. Ewww.

    PoolBuster problem

The red dot is supposed to be on when charging. I am not sure if it turns off once it is fully charged. I just got mine last week, so I didn't pay attention to whether or not the light goes out once fully charged. I'll check mine this evening when I get home and let you know.

Now THAT'S hilarious! I am cracking up just imagining the look and panic on your face! I'm surprised you didn't leave a "critter" in the pool.....
