I definitely have clay. Just seems like dirt against the steel walls is going to cause them to rust faster not to mention also being less of a solid base for the concrete decking, but that is just my thoughts.

Did you just use a standard shop-vac or two? Either of you do liner over steps in your pool? Also did you just fill with hose or did you have water brought in?

Staked it out in the yard last night and think we have decided on a either and 18 x 36 or 20 x 40 roman end pool. Now if I can get prices from excavators and vermiculite/pool-krete folks... :)

I think in one of the videos that I saw they basically formed and poured the entire flatt bottom hopper when they poured the footer.
