Thanks! The plant you are asking about is a Cordyline.

    Getting Started in DFW!

We ended up going with the Micro Fusion Tahoe and it turned out great. Tanning ledge and spa is a grayer color and the pool has a nice blueish look we were wanting. As far as the landscaping, that was all my wife (she has a great eye and knows her plants pretty well). Let me know if you have...

    Getting Started in DFW!

Thanks! It's a brushed concrete but no color. The barn is all concrete and I was looking to match that. - - - Updated - - - Thanks! Could not have done it without TFP. - - - Updated - - - Thanks, Dock. And thanks for the input along the way.

And....we're done! Cannot thank everyone enough for the help we received (and continue to receive!) on TFP. Made this journey so much easier, less stressful and a happy family. Here is the final product. Pics of the barn soon to follow.

    When to put in acid?

That's what I was thinking. Appreciate the input!

    When to put in acid?

Starting to fill our new pool today. They filled the spa first and are now filling the pool. My question is, do I go ahead and put my muriatic acid and Startup-Tec in the spa before the equipment is turned on or do we wait for pool to fill, turn equipment on and do it all at once?

    Getting Started in DFW!

The time has arrived! After a long delay due to weeping, plaster is now going in. Started yesterday and coming back this morning to acid wash and start fill. Fortunate the rain stopped prior to plaster and will hold off until late this afternoon.

    Fill Day and Rain

Had some rain pass through this morning but all gone and plaster (Micro Fusion Pebble) is scheduled to begin today. Tomorrow morning they acid wash and begin filling and rain is expected later tomorrow afternoon and throughout the weekend. Anything I should be aware of and prepare for as far...

    Fill Water Test

Thanks again! In reading through pool school, I see there are a few different start up processes. Do you recommend one? I noticed the acid startup says to pour in 3.5 gallons acid per 10,000 gallons and don't turn circulation system on until pH reaches 7.2 or higher. Traditional mentions...

    Fill Water Test

Appreciate the info! I am OB so it's all on me. As far as pH, how many times should I be checking this each day? I work out of the house so it's not an issue but I didn't know if those numbers could change a few times a day or if checking once a day is enough.

    Fill Water Test

After a couple months of ground water weeping, we are finally getting plaster this week! Tested my fill water this weekend and the results are: PH - 8.2 TA - 110 CH - 110 Chlorine - .5 Anything I should be aware of based on these numbers? I know I'll need some muriatic acid to lower the TA...

    Slow Weep Delaying Plaster

Thanks Jim. I started pumping out the well this morning so hopefully that will help. Appreciate the input and keep you posted!

    Slow Weep Delaying Plaster

That's exactly why I bumped my own thread. To get an answer, regardless if it's good or bad. The good news is, I have a 16' deep bore well about 20 feet from the pool. It has about ten feet of water in it so we are going to start pumping it out. One of my other questions was whether or not a...

    Slow Weep Delaying Plaster

Also, is it actually OK to go with a pebble surface to avoid future staining?

    Slow Weep Delaying Plaster

Gunite was done end of February and everything else is finished except plaster. The weep hole continues to have a small amount of water coming out (leaves about an inch of water in the bottom of pool every couple days) and we were told that needs to stop before plaster can be done. Neighbor...

Another General Contractor and Cost Plus Pool

That's a pretty good price for the size. I live pretty close to you (Colleyville) and my quotes on a 15 x 30 rectangular with spa were coming in around $50K with about half the deck size you have. We ended up going the owner build route and saved about 20%.

Good points. I may be leaning toward the pavers.

    Getting Started in DFW!

Are you thinking pouring concrete over the gunite is not a good idea because of the cracking risk?

    Getting Started in DFW!

Finally got coping and tile done! Went fairly smooth with the exception of the spa. The gunite was 12" wide and with 12" coping not being able to hang over the ledge, they had to get a little creative with some cutting and actually got it to look great. Cost a bit on extra coping but lesson...

First Time Owner Build in Dallas

Good luck! I am in the middle of an OB, also in the Dallas area. I thought about finding someone I could pay a small fee to consult, but after all the advice I get from this forum as well as a buddy who built his own, I went ahead and dove in (no pun intended). Although, if the price is...

To DIY or not to DIY in Houston. That is the question.

I am in the Dallas area and went through the same thing you are and a very similar pool (15 x 30 rectangle but we included a spa). I finally decided to DIY and am about halfway through the process (gunite recently completed and tile and coping going in next week). I have found it to be the...

    Getting Started in DFW!

After a threat of rain (and concerns of dig collapsing) we were able to shoot gunite last Friday. Went to order tile and coping today and should have complete next week. The company going the tile, coping and plaster are asking for 50% up front. Is this fairly common? I've had the hole dug...

Thanks, TexasDeano. I think for now I am going with the Jandy ProFlow JS with the built in controller that will allow me to add the remote uses. Sounds like I would be missing out without some of those capabilities.

    Getting Started in DFW!

Thanks bmoreswim. This is an owner build so I wasn't sure how big an issue (although reading some more, it does seem to happen a lot as you explained). I OB'd my last pool but had much different soil so it wasn't an issue.

    Getting Started in DFW!

So dig was completed yesterday and steel went in today! Only concern is that our soil is extremely sandy and there were a few cave ins they had to take care of which left pretty good gaps (should this be a concern? Gunite coming next week). Here are a couple pics.
