Pump basket not filling with water

I forgot to mention my filter pressure is normally 14 psi but is 24. I’m opening the pool with algae but use hairnets to capture gunk. Do you think a backwash might help? The deal is it would only fill 3/4 before I started the filtering process.

Pump basket not filling with water

Good morning Richard. Yes above ground. It’s not a bubble, it is only filling approximately 3/4 of capacity.

Pump basket not filling with water

The circulation and skimming are good. A new o-ring was added, I checked to make sure the winterization plug is tight and pool water level is right. Any ideas to get the basket to fill? Thanks.

    I’m new and overwhelmed.

I highly recommend getting a speed stir! Best invention for testing your pool. These guys and gals on TFP have helped me tremendously and repeatedly.

Right! For some reason I mistakenly thought I had to maintain a TA level of at least 90 but now that I understand I can safely go as low as 60 TA I'm sure I will be stress free and able to keep my pH manageable. I want to thank all of the kind people on this forum for offering guidance and...

TA 100 pH 7.5 After adding 25 oz MA! Now that I know down to 55 TA will help me control my pH this summer! I appreciate everyone's help and suggestions. Thank you.

Yes, you've advised me on that micro-managing earlier...guess I'm just hard headed?. Thank you, I appreciate your help. Getting started on the pH now.

    Yo-yo Ph-TA

THANK YOU for a direct answer?. I'll get to work on the high ph right now.....and that will bring th TA way down......I'll do the acid in 8 oz doses to avoid over shooting the target. How long after added should I test again?

    Yo-yo Ph-TA

Okay, I could live with 80 TA, my question is (since the pool math said MA will reduce TA 7.5) do I subtract 7.5 from 130 or do I subtract 75 from 130? That would result in a TA of 55? I don't think TA of 55 is a good idea. If I reduce TA to 90 will that bring my pH down?

I added liquid shock as soon I got the low chlorine reading this morning, I just wanted to post results that I had first sample this AM. ? Yes, I'm familiar with Pool Math, I have already did the pool math calculations. Calculator told me how much MA will lower both.....reducing TA by...

    Yo-yo Ph-TA

Yes, I'm trying to lower my pH.....it isn't going to go down on its own. I was asking how to do that without lowering the TA or lowing it as little as possible.

I really don't know if the pH is higher than 8.2....pool math calculator indicates that adding 26 oz. 31.45 MA will reduce pH...

Thank you Maddie, I'll have to retest cause I stopped at baby pink.

    Yo-yo Ph-TA

Thank you for the detailed explanation on the TA, my test doesn't go through that many changes....I don't believe it shows 'red' until it changes to pink. So, I guess the TA is more 90 than 80 since I stop as soon as it's solid 'light pink'. Also, I certainly appreciate the 'numbers spread'...

Thank you for the suggestion on 4 drops instead of five; I'll try that in the morning. I will try to bring the PH down a little then too.

    CYA alternate test methods?

Kellyfair, I was wondering why no one had mentioned the 'glance test.' I'd done the 'stare test' for two years before you educated me last month!

    Slam or No?

Bruno, the reason your FC went to 35 ppm earlier is because GV bleach has sodium hypochlorite of 8.5, a better bargain the Chlorox.

    Chlorine loss

Gosh , Jeeza! You're a mind reader!! After loooking at the SLAM instructions and going to the chart I was going to ask someone if my SLAM level would be 16. Thank you for more info about the CH test. I will start the SLAM after I raise my PH to 7.5 tomorrow. Is approximately 2 hours...

    Chlorine loss

Thanks Kellyfair. My first question. Did I read correctly that when you perform the CH test that you use the speed stir even on step 3....you speed stir even with R-0012? My confusion is from Step 3. "add one drop at a time until color changes to blue"...no stirring mentioned. The 'mixture'...

    Chlorine loss

Thank you both. At 7:00P I added 72 oz. chlorine. At 9:00P the results is FC 8.0 CC .5 as for the calcium test: when I use the speed stir for all 3 reagents the result are 125' when I don't use the speed stir the results (22 drops) is 550! I'm afraid this is the right number! Please...

    Chlorine loss

We opened a swamp this year due to closing with only a leaf cover on the pool. So my 'disclosure' begins including all the no-no's: We replaced our pump on May 13, I had no liquid chlorine so I used Cal- pro that was already here, quiet a bit of it with the pool with the hose in the pool...

    Joining the trouble free army

Thank you for the description of the correct way of doing the CYA test! For two years I've been staring at the dot! I just added more CYA sock in front of return....so now my CYA is likely too high!!! Once I check it out in three days, I'll most likely have to do a partial drain since I can't...

    Sand in pool

Thank you, I did just that after I made this post. It took 10 hairnets to get it out and I watched the pump water carefully. I need to learn how to post on here and sorry for the confusion. I appreciate your response.

    Sand in pool

Last season we closed the pool using only a leaf net cover....I will NEVER do that again! So, the pool was a green swamp. After balancing water I began liquid bleach. The pool turned milky white but wouldn't clear up even though the pump was running 24/7. We bought a new valve and sand to go...
