    Pump operation & scheduling

A friend gave me some. He used to have his own pool business, and gets it from a place that doesnt serve the public. He just gave me 8 gals to start out. Not sure if I'll be able to re-up regularly, or if I'm gonna have to go with bleach or 10% at home Depot (hdx). Do you have any...

    Pump operation & scheduling

Thanks for the link! I'll have to read up on that. I also found a YouTube video that walked me through the menu and I understand it now. Just gotta figure out runtimes now by reading your link :)

    Pump operation & scheduling

Yup - about 48-60 oz of 12.5% a day - does that seem right for 13k gallons in Phoenix heat? I did download the manual, but couldn't really make heads or tails of getting the schedule figured out or set. Is there a good baseline to start with for runtime? Like enough runtime for 1-2x pool...

    Pump operation & scheduling

So, first off, a big thanks to you guys for helping me figure out my chemicals. Now that I drained/filled, everything's pretty stable. That said - I have no idea what the current schedule for my Pentair pump is, or how to modify it. I tried reading the manual, but couldn't really make much...

New pool owner - drain/fill in progress

sorry about the ambiguity! (edited original post to replace the, in hindsight, horribly worded statement) what I was trying to say is there was no algae or cloudiness of the pool. It was crystal clear. I just drained due to high CH & CYA readings. The pump did run overnight. Thanks!

New pool owner - drain/fill in progress

Just tested this morning. Looks like I passed the OCLT. FC 10, CC 0. I'll see how much chlorine I go through at this CYA. The pool does get quite a bit of shade. Thanks so much for guiding me through all this.

New pool owner - drain/fill in progress

A few hours later (just after dark) FC 10.5 (I put in enough for 10, as that's what the poolmath app said) CC - 0 CYA - 30 Note The pool didn't have any direct sunlight after I added the chlorine

New pool owner - drain/fill in progress

Thanks!! MA, CYA, and bleach added per poolmath! Pump running & I brushed just for good measure. I'll test in a few hours and update.

New pool owner - drain/fill in progress

So next steps, if someone would be kind enough to confirm... Pump running for all steps 1) add muriatic acid (I have 31.45%, but not sure what the 20° Baume means in the app?) 2) wait (how long?) 3) add cya 4) brush to aid in mixing/dispersion 5) wait (how long? Have a gallon liquid instant...

New pool owner - drain/fill in progress

Oh yeah I was getting it every 15 minutes :) It's all full now, and did a test...results below FC/CC both 0 pH 7.6 TA 130 CH 225 CYA test stops at 30, so less than that. Was absolutely clear, so 0 or very close to it.

First time pool owner in Gilbert AZ

Hey there! I'm a new pool owner in Gilbert too, and just found this forum about a week ago when we closed on our house. Doing a drain/fill today! Welcome!

For liquid cya, do I just pour it in? I already have it - a friend gave his supplies to me.

New pool owner - drain/fill in progress

Since my CH and CYA we're through the roof, I went ahead with draining yesterday afternoon, and started my fill last night. I expect it to finish the fill in the next 6 hours (roughly). So, while I wait for my pool to fill, I figured I should plan my steps out once it's done filling. I have...

First-time pool owner - have a lot to learn

thanks! I'm a bit worried about the plaster now, so I think I'll give the replacement strategy a try. I saw another post essentially about putting a bucket on the steps, and filling with supply, while pumping out from the deep end. My supply would be warmer than the pool. What CYA level would...

First-time pool owner - have a lot to learn

So, instead of going back to sleep when I woke up at 5am, I've been reading through most articles on here, and think I'll do my tests again, with the extended direction I found. When I did my CH test, I think I was reaching the fading endpoint, but was unaware of that possibility. As for the...

First-time pool owner - have a lot to learn

Thanks for the warning. Would it be correct to assume that the pump speed it typically adjustable? In regards to backing up into the house, would I just need to keep an eye on my toilets/sinks? How frequently would I need to check to make sure I catch a backup before it's too late?

First-time pool owner - have a lot to learn

Hah...I thought you meant spraying it in a sense of some sort of product or coating, not just to keep it wet. Thanks! Looks like in my area I can just drain to the sewer clean out, and it should take roughly 4-5 hours to drain, and another 25 to fill.

First-time pool owner - have a lot to learn

Thanks I appreciate it! As for spraying the plaster, is that something pretty easy to DIY, or is that something typically recommended to hire out? What am I looking at in terms of cost, and is there a general age at which it should be done? I still have to research the age of the pool. Right...

First-time pool owner - have a lot to learn

Also, in regards to the equipment & valves...I don't really know how to use any of the controls. Is that something the forum can help me with, or should I have a pool company come out and show me the ropes, inspect, and label everything for me? If so, what would be a reasonable price range for...

First-time pool owner - have a lot to learn

So, presumably I would just call the city (water/sewer utility) to determine that... I'll give them a call when they open tomorrow... As for drying out...it's going to hit the mid 90's this week for the high...how long should I expect it to take to drain and fill, and would that time be enough...

First-time pool owner - have a lot to learn

Ok, so the line he gave me about not using liquid chlorine above 85° is...basically inaccurate then? So, being completely unfamiliar with how to drain/fill the pool, how would I go about that? Would it be feasible to drain just half, or should I do a complete drain/fill? Can you point me in...

First-time pool owner - have a lot to learn

So, first off, I'd like to thank the community for what I've already learned from reading the helpful articles. I have a ton of questions about the pool that came with this house I purchased, so I'll try to keep it organized. The previous owners always rented out the property, and didn't share...
