Whoops CYA sock had a hole in it

I just filled it up and stuck it in the skimmer basket - went to look at and its all gone (into the DE filter). Do you think that it is still "useable" as long as I don't backwash?

    New Plaster - PH fluctuates

I'm new to all of this but had my Inground 15000 gal pool replastered about 10 days ago. My PH after refill was/is at 8.0 so I put (too much) Muriatic Acid in to lower it to 7.0. The next day it was 8.0 again. My TA was 80 and now is 40. How can I get my PH to be stable? thanks

Got the pool replastered and am now filling back up - I want to change the Amerlite light so it is sitting up on the deck. ..Is it ok for water to enter the light cavity?

Can I repair my light? See Pic

That is a rusted hole in the cone along that rust stripe. Is there a safe way to patch this? I know that a new one is in order but money is tight right now. BTW - It is an Amerlite thanks Rob

Vacuum Plate is not performing well

How can I tell which one to buy? - I believe that the inside diameter of my basket is 7 inches..

Vacuum Plate is not performing well

Yes - I have 2 holes but one is plugged - so is the one in the main drain that goes to it. I do not get a cavitation moment when putting the plate on. I only have 5 psi right now - I checked the impeller ( by reaching my hand down and under). Not sure why it is that low - could that be the cause?

Vacuum Plate is not performing well

I bought a vacuum plate that seems to fit over the top of my basket Ok - but I get almost no suction out of the top of the hole on the plate ( and out of my vacuum head). Shouldn't this be strong suction , as if the vac. hose is going directly into the hole under the basket? If I put my hand...

No Vacuum to Waste - other options

So I'm guessing that you put that over your basket and then connect your hose to the top of it...Do you still get strong vac. suction from such a setup?

No Vacuum to Waste - other options

My plumbing is such that I do not have a valve that I can turn in order to vacuum to waste - it all has to go through the filter. Are there any other tricks that I am not aware that would allow me to bypass the filter when vacuuming? Or are there any inline filters that catch junk? thanks

    PSI rises shortly after cleaning

Thanks for all the suggestions. I wish that I could vacuum to waste but my plumbing doesn't have such a valve/option to do this. It goes straight from the skimmer to the filter. I wouldn't mind changing that so that I could vacuum to waste. I sure hate running all that junk through the filter -...

    PSI rises shortly after cleaning

I don't have a current test yet. I am located in Dallas, Tx. so yes the green stuff is in the air but I have always noticed this problem :) . If my PSI is at 30 when I turn it off, shouldn't it remain at or around that level when I turn it back on? Do I need to keep backwashing/add DE until its...

    PSI rises shortly after cleaning

Just an update: Last night I took the DE grid assembly out - hosed it off real well - grids look good visually - none of them holding any water. I reinstall - add DE - 6PSI on the gauge. I let it run overnight and wake up to 30psi and my filter cover looks like its going to explode. My water is...

    PSI rises shortly after cleaning

thanks...I have also noticed that if the pSI hits 30, I can turn it off - wait overnight - turn it back on and the pressure is now back at 8psi - for a few hours anyway...

    PSI rises shortly after cleaning

I have a ClearFlo 48 sq. ft. DE Filter on a 13000 gallon in ground pool. I am pretty good about keeping the DE grids cleaned and have replaced several of them due to age, holes. Here is what I notice: If I neglect the pool for a while and there is a layer of dirt on the pool floor, I then stir...

    CYA in a dissolved form

I bought the HTH Stabilizer that is kind of a crystallized form and added it to the skimmer - all 4 lbs. Will it take a week to see this on my test kit or is that only for "solid" forms of cya? thanks

    Increasing CYA ?

What I don't understand is why my test strips show very little FC and CYA even though I keep a couple of pucks in the floater at all times. How many pucks does it take to keep these levels high? Or are the pucks meant to be strictly a supplemental source of chlorine in addition to shocking?

    Increasing CYA ?

I guess i have been one of those idiots who bought the pucks and threw them in a floater occasionaly. What would the name of a recommended product be at a Home Depot? I didn't see one on their web site. thanks

    Increasing CYA ?

Why do people buy the trichlor pucks then? :hammer:

    Increasing CYA ?

Total new guy here that wants to raise his CYA from 20 to 40. I did read over the pool school. Here are my stupid questions: 1) I have Trichlor pucks. Is this what most people use to raise the level? I usually throw a couple in the floater but this does not appear to be nearly enough. 2) Do you...
