Ascorbic Treatment to rid Pool of metal stains

How much would it cost you to replace 50% of your water? This assumes you are not on a well. Read the other active post I am commenting on for someone else with iron stains. What has worked best for me is to do AA treatment and then immediately exchange at least 50% of my water to pump out the...

Single speed pump vs. Variable speed pump

You could also save 100% of your pool's electricity usage by substituting your pool pump for one of these...

Liner sag plus water behind liner

How high is your water in your pool? If your property is fairly level or you have a pond/creek nearby, the ground water can get pretty high during late winter/spring. The liner almost always has some level of ground water behind it but what causes a liner to float is that the weight of the water...

    Yellow stains on liner

Also, don't get discouraged if you start seeing some minor staining reappear in a month or two or even next Spring. As I mentioned, I have done the AA treatment with water exchange each year for the past 3 years due to minor stains coming back. The previous owners of our house set me up for...

    Yellow stains on liner

After the AA lifted the stains, the iron is now released in the water so immediately doing the water exchange will pump out your "iron water". Fresh water coming in is going to dilute your iron so you will basically cut the iron PPM by at least half. Only add chemicals after pumping out "iron...

FC amount for inflatable water slide

Without a heater for our pool and these random cold snaps we have been getting, it has been hard to get the temp up high enough for a comfortable swim. For the inflatable slide, the water from the spigot was much colder so I hooked up a garden hose to the hot water connection for my washing...

    Yellow stains on liner

I put the Polyfill in a laundry bra bag which my wife wasn't using and I just let it sit in the skimmer. It has a zipper on it to keep the Polyfill contained and easy to change out every couple weeks. The CuLator packs will work as well for proactively absorbing metals if you don't mind paying a...

    Yellow stains on liner

CuLator will work fine to absorb the metals but I think you know it is iron. Polyfill or Poly-fil is pillow stuffing and is cheap. https://www.hobbylobby.com/Fabric-Sewing/Batting-Fillings-Forms/Batting/Premium-Polyester-Fiberfill---12-Ounce/p/36555

    Yellow stains on liner

Maybe @Texas Splash can chime in for someone with a bit more experience. No sense in doing a water exchange if the iron has already precipitated to your pool surface. AA removes it from the surfaces and releases it into the water so you would want to only pump out water immediately after AA has...

    Leak detection strategy

I have a leak which I lost about an inch of water over night without the pump running and solar cover on so I know it is not in the plumbing or evaporation. With the 7 day supposed to be a cold snap, I am not going to want to be swimming around with a snorkel looking for a hole in the liner...

    Yellow stains on liner

Sorry to hear your frustration but it does not surprise me. This is why I commented that I do an AA treatment every spring. I am able to remove more and more iron each year but cannot totally eradicate minor stains. Using metal free is a temporary solution because it's suspends the metal in the...

FC amount for inflatable water slide

Good point about using chairs to get it off the ground. I inflated it and propped it up on my pool fence to dry out the bottom which worked but the end that was on the ground had probably 20 gallons in it like a big water bag. I turned it off and was able to leave it hanging on the fence...

Doing a SLAM when CYA appears to be 0

The normal response from TFP Experts is to get CYA to 30 before SLAM. Liquid stabilizer will work faster so if you have concerns with the sock method, then just spend a little more to get it done. Your CYA loss during backwash is minimal unless you backwash for an hour. Give it an hour or two...

FC amount for inflatable water slide

I have one of the water slide inflatables with the big blower which is always difficult to get completely dry before storing. We have been using it 5 days in a row and have left it in the yard so dew/rain have kept it pretty wet even when not in use. I am going to use my pump sprayer to...

Polaris 360 - tail gets sucked in

How much flow are you getting through the tail? It should whip back and forth like a crocodile swimming through the water. You should also see it spray 5-10 feet out of the water when it climbs high on the walls. There should be an adjuster knob to regulate the flow. You may also want to check...

In-Line Chlorinator issues after VS pump install

The water should stay in the cylinder so you should not have to do that often. I really don't think this is the root cause of your issue. You need to read the Pool School articles when it comes to liquid chlorine (bleach). You will not get much support from people on TFP if you are using 100%...

How do you know when your water is clear?!

I think if you have to ask the question if it is crystal clear, you know your answer. We got about 2 inches of rain last night in Memphis and my pool today is not crystal clear today due to all the Crud cleaned off the trees.

    Main Drain Install?

I just had my liner replaced 2 years ago and the pool builder added T pipes for dual drains and they just used pool krete to set. Not sure why you would have to have solid concrete when the pipes are not going to move under the pressure of the water on the liner.

In-Line Chlorinator issues after VS pump install

Turn on you pump to full blast and slightly loosen the cap on your chlorine feeder to let the air escape. If you open it too much it will start spewing water so just be careful. This will allow you to run the pump at lower RPMs and still circulate water in the chlorine pucks. You should also...

How do you know when your water is clear?!

If you have a deep end, you should be able to see that you have Phillips head screws on your drain cover. If you can't see that then it is not clear. You can also use the quarter test which you throw a quarter in the deep end and be able to tell if it is heads or tails.

recommended cleaner for around 150 or less?

I think you need to reset your expectation on cost. I spent over $150 for a rebuild kit for my Polaris and that was just for a bunch of parts for a machine +10 years old. My booster pump alone cost over $250 and the Polaris new is several hundred. Robots running from an extension cord are going...

Passed OCLT but still have 1.5 CC

I don't think you are ready for the OLCT if you still have CC's. You should get those close to zero first and also make sure your water isn't covered to allow it to breath. The CC's need to burn off as chlorine gas.

Doing pool by my self -Just got back from Leslie`s - here are results

Stop going to Leslie's and invest some time in the Pool school articles on TFP. Buy a good test kit and do it yourself because you can't trust someone working part time at the pool store to have proper knowledge.

    Bleach shortage

My local HD stores were all showing low inventory so I ordered online to get 6 cases delivered to my house for the $9 delivery fee. A guy showed up the next day with 5 cases and I don't know which of my 5 local HD's it came from but it doesn't matter since I didn't have to run around town...

    Yellow stains on liner

I don't know how cheap or expensive the water/sewage is in ATL but it is very cheap in Memphis. It only increases by water bill by approx $150 to refill my entire pool, sewage included. If your city water is cheap, you may want to do a decent water exchange immediately after AA. CYA will need to...

Retaining heat during cold snap - in addition to solar cover

I have a big oak tree over my pool blocking the sun until about 1 in the afternoon, which is also hindering my solar heating capability. I would just have the thing cut down but the tree is in a neighbor's yard. It does provide nice shade in the summer but it is a huge pain with leave and tannin...

    Yellow stains on liner

Eliminating the AA doesn't take much time with a moderate amount of chlorine. I believe the prescribed time to slowly bring up the FC is over 2 weeks while the iron is suspended in the water. Since I normally keep my pool covered the whole month of March during the process, I end up slowly...
